Minneapolis ICE CREAM RUN EXTRAVAGANZA!!

Image
Guys, we really like EXTRAVAGANZAS! This past weekend, your two friends over here at the Big Muddy Ice Cream Blog had our most exciting adventure yet as bloggers! We've had ice cream extravaganzas before, eaten ice cream from all over the country, but nothing compares to our adventure this past weekend.  We went on an ice cream run! Yes, you read that right, we ran from ice cream shop to ice cream shop, nausea be damned! Our ice cream run was totally the brain child of Madeline and it involved four ice cream shops and three segments of running. We started at Sebastian Joe's, ran .95 miles to Milkjam, ran 3.86 miles to Pumphouse Creamery, and then ran .87 miles to Grand Ole Creamery! Thanks Alex, Rebecca, Laurel, Somyi, Theo and Humberto for coming on this crazy adventure! Lizzy: The only one of these I had been to before was Sebastian Joe's, so I was super pumped to try all of these shops. But I will definitely need to go back to them, because I didn't get as m...

New Orleans Ice Cream Company Ponchatoula Strawberry

Image
Mmk folks, this is going to be a short and sweet review! But first, for those of us that aren't super familiar with Louisiana, what in the heck is a Ponchatoula strawberry? Well, Ponchatoula is a small city in Louisiana that is called the "strawberry capital of the world." There is a major strawberry festival there every year which is the largest event in the state behind Mardi Gras! The description of this flavor is A Smooth & Creamy Strawberry Ice Cream Bursting with The Freshest Ponchatoula Strawberries. This wasn't the most strawberry-y flavored strawberry ice cream I'd ever eaten. But I wouldn't say this was a bad thing. This flavor was more going for a strawberries and cream vibe, and here they executed well. The best part about this flavor was the buttermilk. It's not listed in the description, but if you peak at the ingredients, you'll see buttermilk listed. The slight tanginess that the buttermilk added made this flavor extra f...

Izzy's Lemon Buttermilk and Blueberry and Strawberry

Image
You guys, it's spring!  All of a sudden Minnesota went from being 9 degrees to 16 degrees to 40 degrees (Fahrenheit, obvi), and now it's supposed to be in the 50s for the next few days.  I'm so happy.  I hate the winter so much. On Sunday I was up at school waiting to meet up with a study group.  I got there a few hours early to work some problems on my own, but was tiring out and didn't want to do any more work, so I made a spur of the moment decision to go to Izzy's to get some ice cream.  Never a bad decision. Normally you can count on Izzy's to have on or two weird or unique flavors, but on this trip, I had already tried all of their non-standard flavor offerings, and I wanted to try something new.  (Sidenote, I'm proud of myself that I've tried so many Izzy flavors.  I eat so much ice cream.)  The only sort of weird flavor left was lemon buttermilk.  I'm really really glad the stars aligned as they did, because I think if I some...

Izzy's Ice Cream

Image
Madeline and I just went HAM with ice cream this week. Thursday we went to Izzy's Ice Cream. They are known for their crazy flavors. They have so many, including a cereal milk flavor which I need  to try. Unfortunately they didn't have that flavor the day we went. Izzy's is also known for their "Izzy scoop." Basically the Izzy scoop is a little baby scoop you can add to your ice cream for just a little bit more. I think this is a really cool concept. I always want to try as many flavors as possible but sometimes you don't want to eat enough ice cream to try a zillion flavors. We met my friend Bea there, who is from Minneapolis and just got back to the states after studying abroad, it was really nice to see her! This is Bea's cone. She got lemon buttermilk and salted caramel and loved them both! I sampled the Thai Iced Tea flavor they had as a "mystery flavor". Not really sure what they meant by mystery flavor but whatevs. The flavor is al...
