A Blizzard of Thanks

It's Friday, the day after Christmas, and I'm playing along with Unity's Friends with Flair.
I am always amazed at the talent every. single. Friday.  I've missed a few, but love to cruise the blogs on the weekend to see the inspiration.  I wanted to end the year with one last Unity card.  Here it is:

I needed 10 thank you cards, and I needed them quick.  I came up with a simple design that I could replicate easily.  The stamp set is "Like a Snowflake" (December, 2014 Sentiment Kit).
The label is cut out on my Cricut, using the Art Philosophy cartridge from Close To My Heart. The card stock and rhinestone bling are also from CTMH.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas!  This was the first one without my father, so there were some moments that were difficult, but there were some very lovely, tender moments also.
Happy New Year to all my Unity Peeps!

P.S. I Love You -- for 3 Girl JAM

It's Friday!  And I'm posting today for 3 Girl JAM, and linking this up with Unity's Friends With Flair.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary on Wednesday.  I wanted to make a special card for him, and this is what I created:

There's 3 Girl JAM Jute Ribbon, 3 Girl JAM Christmas Candy ribbon from the Seasons Bundle (my all-time favorite), and a Love Flair Button on this card.
The stamp, from Unity Stamp Co., of course, is a Stamp of the Week.  I stamped the image, colored it with Copic markers, and fussy cut it.  The sentiment is part of the the stamp set.  I use a Spellbinders die to cut it out. The circle was sprayed with various alcohol inks using an airbrush.  All papers are by Close To My Heart.
Need some Flair, Jute, or crinkle ribbon for yourself?  Or for a Christmas gift?  Use discount code JO10 for 10% off of anything in the 3 Girl JAM Store
I'd like to enter this in the following challenges:

Since Pinque Peacock and Unity Stamps are 2 of my favorite companies, and this hop is about "My Favorite Things", I used them both on this card:

Who doesn't love a great peacock, right?  This is a cutting file by Fluerette Bloom.  It's a tri-fold card.  The papers are from Close To My Heart. The sentiment is from Unity Stamp Company Itty Bitty stamp, "Simply Fabulous Peacock".  But the crowning glory on this strutting peacock card is the Pinque Peacock embellishments.  I used a 3/4 inch fabric covered button, a small Elegant Floral, and Soft Bright Sticky Back Jewels, also found at Pinque Peacock.

Life's Better with a Patriotic Dog

It's Friday, the 4th of July, and Friends With Friends! Happy Independence Day, American friends!
Today is a big day in my little town. Our town of 2000 people swells to 10,000 in the summer with all the tourists.  On July 4th, we have 20,000 people in town for the parade, the family beach party, and the fireworks.  It's pure craziness!
I do have a quick card I made this week for Unity Friends With Flair, 'cause I have to connect with my Unity friends!
I used an adorable Angie Girl stamp to create this:

This delightful image is "Shari Girl", and the sentiment is part of the stamp set.  I went for Patriotic colors and papers, using Authentic Glory 12x12 paper on the card.  I colored "Shari Girl" and her dog with Copic markers. The Kraft borders are by Close To My Heart.
Do you have big plans for the holiday weekend?  I broke my big toe last week (tripping over a dog pillow, of all things), and after working all week, I'm ready to rest it a bit and keep it elevated more, hoping to get some of the swelling to go down.
I have a giveaway going on, celebrating several events: I wrote my 500th blog post last week, I just reached 400 followers on my blog, and I have over 100 "likes" on my Facebook page, Muddy Paws & Inky Fingers.  To celebrate all those things,  I'm having a giveaway:  I have some Timeless Twine, some 3 Girl JAM ribbon, a Unity stamp set, a Close To My Heart stamp set, some Pinque Peacock embellishments, a 6x6 paper pad, and various embellishments that I need a home for. I also have two generous sponsors:  DigiStamps4Joy is giving a $10 gift certificate to the store, and The Cutting Cafe is offering any 3 sets.  WOW! If you'd like to be eligible to win, please leave a comment on any of my blog posts between June 27 and July 6.  I'll draw a winner on my birthday.  It's my day, and you get the present!  I'd also love it if you "like" my Facebook page and follow my blog, if you don't already.

Sending Happy Your Way

It's Friday, and today I'm posting for Pinque Peacock.  I'm also combining it with Unity Friends With Flair.  I love using Pinque Peacock products on my projects.  They finish them off "oh-so-pretty" -- as you will see!
I made a card with happy colors and a happy theme today.  After all, it's FRIDAY!

I stamped this happy image, then colored it with some bright colored Copic markers.  I mounted it on bright papers, and found a great Large Layered Garden Beauty from Pinque Peacock to pull the card all together.
The stamp is from Unity's Stamp of the Week collection, and is called, ironically, "Sending Happy Your Way."

I have a giveaway going on, celebrating several events: I wrote my 500th blog post this week, I just reached 400 followers on my blog, and I have over 100 "likes" on my Facebook page, Muddy Paws & Inky Fingers. WOW! If you'd like to be eligible to win, please leave a comment on any of my blog posts between now and July 6.  I'll draw a winner on my birthday.  It's my day, and you get the present!  I'd also love it if you "like" my Facebook page and follow my blog, if you don't already.

Belated Father's Day for Friends With Flair

Looking for the Patriotic Firefly for My Scrap Chick?  Please click HERE!
Hello, and happy, happy Friday! With only a 20% chance of rain today, it's a very happy Friday!
Our neighborhood is flooded from so much rain.  We usually have 3 inches for the month of June.  So far this month, we've had over 20 inches.  I live across the road from a lake and it has spilled it's banks.  Some basements are flooded, other homes are flooded.  Directly across from us are some condos.  For over a week now, 2 of the units have had water running in from the lake, through the house, out the garage, down the driveway, and into a culvert.  It's so sad!  Then, several nights ago we had some very strong winds.  Trees that having been sitting in water for several weeks now, with very wet root systems, toppled over easily.  One landed on the roof of the same flooded condo.  The next night, another fell on the garage and car.  Talk about bad luck!
We, fortunately, are dry so far.  Every spare minute we have, we're re-arranging the basement, buying totes, and elevating what we can, just in case.  And, that's where my craft room is.  Waaah!  But so far, so good!
But hey, it's Friends With Flair, and I really do have a card to share with you.  My husband and I don't have children, so our 2 pampered dogs get treated rather well.  On Father's Day, I often give my husband a card to thank him for the great care and love he gives our two pooches.  Here's this year's card:
It uses the Unity Stamp Company stamp set, "Puppy Ruff." I colored the image with Copic markers, making it the color of my two Golden Retrievers.  I used some paw print washi tape, and layered up some matching card stock -- a very simple card.
My husband and I both had some days off this week.  We traveled 2 hours north to the city of Duluth.  It's on Lake Superior.  The lake often makes for a late spring there.  These pictures were taken Tuesday, June 18:
This is a honey bee -- you hardly ever see them anymore.  I was so excited! (Can you see the pollen on his feet?)

A tiger swallowtail butterfly

the honey bee in flight

Daffodils -- blooming in June(?)

The tulips were so pretty!

The lilacs were just starting to bloom

Ah yes, we were at the lake! Here's Lake Superior, and a gull

The two of us, with the Duluth harbor behind us

I had no idea this would be such a long post.  If you made it to the end, THANK YOU! Have a great weekend.  Leave a comment and I will visit your blog!

I'm Showing My Stripes for Friends With Flair!

It's Friday, and we have LOTS of end of the school year things happening at the nursing home this week.  Today, our pen pals are coming from a neighboring town.  They are in 4th grade.  They write us letters all year, and visit several times each year.  Today is the final visit.  It's so fun to see their writing skills improve as the year progresses.  The high school choir is also coming over today to perform for us.  Again, by the end of the year, they sound so GREAT!  We love the community involvement!
Oh, but back to Friday.  And Friends with Flair -- my Friday tradition.  I have a confession.  I have trouble using striped paper.  Patterned paper -- no problem.  Dots -- love it. Flowers -- bring 'em on.  But stripes?  It's the last paper I reach for every time.  So, to challenge myself.  I chose a piece of striped paper FIRST and made myself compose a card around it.  Here's what I made:

I used two Unity Itty Bitty stamps on this card:  "A Lovely Butterfly Day" for the sentiment, and a Stamp of the Week, "A Floral Hello".  I colored the image with Copic markers, choosing bright colors to match that striped paper.  I wrapped some of my favorite Timeless Twine around the striped layer in Simply White Timeless Twine. Then, I added a layer of dot paper, just to make me feel more balanced.
Papers are Echo Park Dots & Stripes.  Anyone need some striped paper? I've got more!
Enjoy your weekend!

Lots of Hugs -- it's Friends with Flair!

It's Friday, so that means it's Friends With Flair, with Unity Stamp Company.  I have a card to share with you from a guest designer spot I did recently for The Cheerful Stamp Pad.  I somehow got my wires crossed, and while the card was posted on their blog, I didn't find out in time to post it on my blog.  So, I saved it for today, as it features Unity Stamps.  The challenge on The Cheerful Stamp Pad when I guest designed was to use embossing powder. So, I did.

Both the image and the sentiment are embossed with clear embossing powder on white cardstock.  I used the Unity Stamp Company "May Hope Sustain You"-- March 2014 Sentiment Kit.  Then, I used a bunch of bright colored distress inks.  It's been so cloudy and rainy, I need bright!
It is definitely Graduation time.  I have 2 parties to go to this weekend, so the season is upon us. Have a great weekend, whatever it is you do with yours!

A Rainy Friday for Friends With Flair

Hello, and happy Friday, my crafty friends.  We're in a rainy stretch of weather here, but the flowers are beginning to poke through and signs of spring are everywhere!  I was feeling happy when I made this card, using Unity stamps:

I spent some time last week with 3 of my best friends, up north.  It rained every day.  And, snowed 4 inches one of the days.  The day the weather was the worst, I spent some time coloring some stamped images I had brought along with Copic markers.  This is one of those images. The stamp I used is "Spring & Bloom" -- an Itty Bitty. I didn't think I had any paper to match (really? with the million pieces of  paper I have, I should be able to match anything!) but I hunted and hunted, and found some really old papers that I had forgotten I had.  Please don't tell my husband.  I tell him I know where everything is in my scrap room!  And, usually I do.  Maybe it's an aging thing?  Not a too much paper thing?
I used a couple Spellbinders dies, some Stickles in the center of the flowers, and some bling from my stash on this card to finish it off.
Make sure you check out the great inspiration with the other Friends With Flair link ups.  This group is incredibly talented! And, have a great weekend!

It MUST be Friday ('cause it's Friends With FLAIR!)

Yea, yea, yea! It's definitely Friday! And, my last day of work for a week.  I'm looking forward to a few days of R & R and some girl time with my BFF's and our 4-legged friends.
I know I've been showing a lot of sympathy cards lately, but I have another to share today.  This one went to a good friend who recently lost her brother:
I used the Unity Stamp Company set, "Moments In Bloom". The set has great flowers and sentiments.  The sentiment I used on this card is from Close To My Heart.  I used a Viva Decor Pearl Pen in Sunny Yellow on this card, and Marvy Uchida Brush Art Markers.
Happy crafting, everyone!

Just Hoppin' By!

Here we are, just a couple days away from Easter! I'm hoppin' by with a quick post today, as I flit between work and church, leading Good Friday services, Easter egg hunts, more Good Friday services (I play organ for 3 today), and have several rehearsals with musicians for Easter Sunday.
I'm posting today on the Pinque Peacock blog, with this cheerful Easter card.

This bunny is a cutting file from My Scrap Chick.  It's part of the Bunny Box Trio Set.  The sentiment is from Unity Stamp Company. It's part of an Itty Bitty stamp set called, "Hunny Bunny."
But, what REALLY makes this card special?  It's that Pinque Peacock Elegant Floral that really makes this card pop!  Get yours HERE at the Pinque Peacock store.
Because it's Friday, and it's Friends With Flair, I'm linking this card up on the Unity blog.
Happy Easter, everyone! Or should that be Hoppy Easter?

It's Friday! and it's Friends With Flair

Since my father died a month ago today, it seems like I've been needing more than enough sympathy cards.  The one I'm sharing today is for a DT sister on one of the teams I'm on. I realized anew the importance of  sympathy cards and the handmade ones I recently received were, of course, my favorites.  So, I set to work making this one:

I used the Unity Sentiment Kit, "May Hope Sustain You".  I used Marvy Uchida brush art markers on the image to get the different colors.  The sentiment is stamped with Close To My Heart Barn Red Ink. Papers are by My Mind's Eye and so are the Enamel Dots. Both are from the Collectable collection.  The ribbon is some I've had forever  -- maybe Fancy Pants? I used several Spellbinders dies and a CTMH corner rounder on this card, too.
Have a great weekend, everyone! I hope you find some time to get inky!
I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
Sweet Stamps monthly challenge -- inking stamps with markers
4 Crafty Chicks -- use polka dots
Just Be Creative Crazy -- April Linky Party
D.L. Art -- April linky challenge
Emergency Crafters -- polka dot

It's Friday, and it's Friends With Flair, Yea!

I love Fridays.  I love Unity's Friends With Flair.  I have some much fun checking out everyone's blogs for inspiration.  How can there be so much talent and so much inspiration with this group of stampers?
I've been needing quite a few thank you cards lately.  Since my father died several weeks ago, I've had such an out-pouring of thoughtful gestures that I need to thank people for. Here are a couple I made this week:
Both cards use the Unity Stamp set, Insightful Meadows. The sentiment is from On Vintage Wings, also from Unity Stamp Company.  I also planned on mailing both cards, so wanted to keep them flat.  This first one, I used two similar colors of ink, and did some second generation stamping.

On the second card, I used some Marvy Uchida stamp markers that I've had for several years and had never used.  Now I'm wondering why I haven't.  I loved them and the watercolor look I got with them.

I definitely have to get those markers out more often. Thanks for looking at my 2 CAS cards.  Have a great weekend!

Mixed Up Media Chix Birthday Blog Hop -- and Friends With Flair!

Hello, everyone, and happy Friday! You should have arrived here from the beautiful and uber talented Tracy's blog.
I've always been one to just "go with it" and not follow directions very well.  It was AFTER I got my piece ready for today that I remembered it was supposed to be a birthday themed hop.  Oh well.  I'm the artist. And not very good at directions!  But hey, I'm going to tie it all together, I promise!
Back on July 9, 1930, a very special man was born. That same special man died on March 11, 2014.  This art journal page is in his memory.

My father lived his 83 years to their fullest, making many friends and touching many lives.  I think this quote describes him well.  He LIVED all of his wild and precious days.  He didn't just exist.

I included some poppies on this page because red was his favorite color.  He wore it often, and whenever he bought flowers for my mother, they were always red. Plus, he was the one in the family with a green thumb.

See all those butterflies?  He's there, finding his way to heaven, watching over me as he goes. Into the rainbow cloud.

This is the last photo I have of my Dad.  It was taken 4 days before he died.  He was always smiling and joking.  I'll miss that smile!

All stamps used are by Unity Stamp Company.  I used acrylic paints, a Studio Calico mask, Faber-Castell Pitt pens, and a variety of Tim Holtz distress inks.
I'd like to leave you with the eulogy I gave at my father's funeral last Saturday, but I realize not all of you may want to read it, so here's the link to the talented Sally's blog if you'd like to hop ahead.
If you're still with me, here's my tribute to my father:

First, I want to thank you all for coming.  Our dad was such a humble man.  He would have been so surprised at the number of people here today.  I remember his 80th birthday party.  He was so nervous beforehand, thinking no one would come.  I reminded him that he and mom’s 50th anniversary had over 300 guests.  His response, “they were all there because of your mother.”  As I said, he was a very humble man.

Dad had a great sense of adventure, and was a bit of a daredevil.  He passed this on to his children.  We were both waterskiing on the front of his skis by age 3, and by the time we were 4, we were on our own.  Mom, who was not so adventurous, had many frightening moments through the years watching her children climb trees, scale cliffs, run marathons, complete Ironmans.  We both got that from our father.

Dad loved to ride his bike.  He was riding 20 and 30 miles a day well into his 70’s.  He finally stopped after he crashed one too many times, but he missed it terribly.  That’s when he started walking.  Even last summer, he was walking 2-3 miles each day.  People would see him all over the streets of Chetek, pushing his walker, smiling and waving, sitting down when he got tired.  I got many phone calls of people checking on my dad, making sure I knew he was so far from home, or asking if I would pay his tab later for the coffee he had just charged.  Oh the joys of living in “small town Chetek”.

Dad had a green thumb, and took great pride in his yard.  He and his neighbor in Eau Claire, Bob, had quite a competition to see who’s yard was greener and who’s was the most perfectly mown.  He loved his yard and spent hours watering, fertilizing, and mowing it.

He loved to sing.  He sang in choirs for years.  He enjoyed his years in the E.C. Male Chorus, and the Hope Lutheran Choir.  One of the hardest things he gave up was the choir at Hope.  He was a member for over 50 years, and took great pride in the bass section.

He and mom spent at least 12 winters in Mesa, AZ.  I often visited them there.  We loved to go on hikes in the desert.  One of those winter visits, we hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, spent a night at Phantom  Ranch, and hiked back up.  This is no easy hike.  Depending on the route, it is 12 miles there, and a shorter, but steeper, 10 mile return trip.  My parents were in their late 60’s at the time, the oldest ones in the entire ranch by 20 years.  We were all very proud of their accomplishment.  Dad wore a shirt with pride for many years that said “I made it to the bottom and back”.  He always said, “I earned it!”

In closing, I want to share one of my most special memories of Dad.  Not too long ago, while riding with me in the car, he turned to me and said, “You know, Julie, I feel bad.”  “Why?” I asked.  “Some nights I fall asleep before I get my prayers finished.”  Well, that just touched me. “Some nights, I fall asleep before I finish my prayers.”  Wouldn't  this world be a better place if we all fell asleep while praying?  Thank you, Dad, for the many lessons in life you taught me.

Thanks for hanging until the end, my blog friends, now off to Sally's blog.  Enjoy the hop!

I am the last stop on today's hop, but before I share my project, I need to share that my father passed away on Tuesday, March 11.  This picture was taken on Friday, March 7, 2014:
We had Olympics at the facility where he lived and I work.  He had just taken 3rd place in the walking event.  He was very proud of his medal, but a little miffed he was beaten by two women, both older than he was! I will miss his smile and sense of humor very much.  He was a wonderful father.
This is an Easter hop, and since I know my father has now had the ultimate Easter, it makes this even more special.  Here's a card I made using the  wonderful Pinque Peacock products.

This card showcases one of the beautiful Pinque Peacock fabric swirls.  It also has a Unity Stamp Company sentiment kit called, "Everything Easter."
Make sure to hop the next 2 days also for more Pinque Peacock inspiration.

It's another cold Friday, and it's Friends With FLAIR!

I just love Fridays! Hurray for all the inspiration I find on Unity's Friends with Flair!  I so enjoy visiting all the blogs of the link-up party to see the fantastic creations for the week.  Love IT!

I've got two very different creations to share with you this week.  This first one, I made a few weeks ago, but haven't posted yet.  I have only one sibling.  My brother is 2 1/2 years older than me, so I can tease him about his age.  I blatantly cased this card from a FWF regular, Cynthia.  Here's my version of it:

My brother found it humorous, so I'm glad of that!  It's tough to make male birthday cards, so I'm going to remember this for the future!  This is the Unity "Ah Crap" Stamp set. DP is October Afternoon.

And, I needed to make a sympathy card this week.  The owner of the company my husband works for lost his father (the founder of the company).  He died at 98, so he lived a great life, but it's still a loss to the family at any age.  The man who died loved old cars, old planes, old trains -- things like that.  Here's what I created:

I thought these designer papers by Carta Bella would be great for this particular family.  This uses the Unity Everything Wonderful stamp set.
It looks like Unity has a Super sale for Superbowl weekend.  I'm not a football fan, so I won't be watching the game.  I might, however, be tempted by a Unity super sale! Enjoy your weekend.  I hope it's super -- whatever you do!
