The Colour Purple

I finished my purple book last week and am sorting out the photos. I'm disappointed with the photos as the colours do not look quite right. Click on the images to enlarge.
This is the cover, vintage fabrics with the words 'the colour purple' in applique, also vintage fabrics.
I've made a few books now and I have made them up all differently, I would call them experimental books. This one is an unusual size, it is 18" wide by 5" high [45cm x 12cm], the pages inside have been punched with a zutter binder and the pages are held together with metal binding wire. There is a little hand charm on the front too which says 'hand made'.

The inside cover - various fabrics - mono-print, painted, stamped and vintage [floral] in a patchwork effect with decorative machine embroidery.

Page 1- paper collage, all hand painted and decorated, some inkjet prints also painted, playing card house, postage stamp, punched numbers, paper flower with beads and sequins in the centre.

The flower is simple to make if you need one for a project.
I painted four pieces of a dress pattern with shimmery metallic paints, I used fancy edging scissors at each end but just ripped the sides.
I crumpled the centres and stuck one over the other to make a cross and glued together.
I made another cross and glued that on top in the spaces.
I stitched in the sequins and beads but you could glue them on.

Bird and Tiger

Two more pictures I did on my Galaxy Note. The background on the top picture was originally a photo of some dyed lace [altered] and I drew the bird with the 'note' pen.
Below - The tiger head was copied from a photo, the body and background I made up [bet you can tell!]

Molly - Altered Photos

Photos of Molly in the snow taken at Waldridge Fell by my son.
I've altered them on my Galaxy Note and I used 'pixir-o-matic' to do it.

Green [TAW]

Take a Word - the challenge this week is Green.
I started the pattern above quite a while ago but I thought I would make it into a repeating pattern for fabric. It started off as a paper doyley. Click on the images to enlarge.
The background on the postcard below was also a background pattern that I had done a while ago and not used. I cannot remember what it was originally, but I thought it would make a strange postcard background.

Can you guess what this is?
It is hail on my conservatory windows [roof] which fell to earth yesterday. The original photo is below, I've only altered the colour.
I finished a mixed media and fabric book recently using all things green, if you would like to see it take a look here.

Pages from Sketchbook 30

Pages from sketchbook 30, the little moleskine.
I used liner pens, promarker pens and brush pens.

Sketchbook Pages

One page from sketchbook 26 - patterns with pens, probably promarkers. This sketchbook is A4 size while the pictures below are from a smaller sketchbook [8x5"], a moleskine. The moleskine [no 30] has much better paper than the book above. I can't remember what make the book above is...but it was cheap. And as I fill a lot of books, cheap sometimes wins over quality. The one thing I do like about it though is that it is bigger than the moleskine. Also with a cheap book I don't mind ripping the odd page out if the drawing is too awful but I wouldn't like to that with the moleskine.

TAST 55,56

Take a stitch Tuesday - buttonholed herringbone.
I found the stitches twisting as I worked but decided I liked it on this experimental piece, but then when I tried to twist on purpose it went all untidy. I've done the stitching on a recycled face wipe, painted and stamped, then machine stitched it onto plain fabric which is on top of painted stamped paper [purple book page]
Queeniepatch has some tips and links on her blog about how to stitch without twists.

Take a stitch Tuesday  - sailor stitch.
I've just done a very small sample of this stitch, it looked a bit like a caterpillar when I had done two rows so I'll bear that in mind if ever I need to stitch one. The background is fabric this time, mono-printed on a gel printing plate.

Elephant Sketch

I used letraset promarkers to colour and a liner pen for the outlines.

Robins

Two more digital collages created on my galaxy note.
I think I created the background from an image of a sea plant although it doesn't look anything like it now. I used photos of robins for guidance when drawing the birds. The butterflies are from my stash of entomology images from the Naturalists Library.
