Watercolour Sketches, Snowman Sculpture and Patchwork Bag

Doodlewash
Peppermint, Ribbon, Cookies

Snowman

I based the above painting on this snowman I made with Sculpturemold Modeling Compound. I made his hat from cardboard which I covered in paper. The snowman was painted with gesso and acrylics for the nose, the hat with acrylics. I used pins for the mouth and buttons, google eyes and a piece of scrap fabric for the scarf. I forgot to give him arms.

And I have another patchwork bag made from scraps. The patchwork was all hand stitched but the bag was put together including a lining with the aid of a sewing machine.

Snowman and Santa

The snowman above was drawn on my tablet, the Santa below was based on a little knitted Santa I made years ago.

I've been painting dolls house furniture and making bedding for them.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas or holiday.

Snowman 2 and Cards

This is taken from the same drawing of a snowman as yesterday but this one is just stitched.
I used both yesterdays snowman and today's for printed greetings cards.

Embroidered Snowman

The snowman was cut in 'evolon' creative fabric, it's white and doesn't fray so its handy [ans can be painted]. I used fabric scraps for the scarf, hat and nose. A pen was used for the red part of the buttons which spread a little but there are tiny real buttons in the centres. His mouth and eyes are beads as well as the snow falling from the sky. The crumply snow is Tyvek melted between heat proof paper with an iron.

Snowman

It was very cold today but we went for a walk at the coast at Seaham. A crowd was gathering ready for the annual Boxing Day dip in the sea. Guess what ..... I didn't join them.

IF - Spirit

'If only I had arms'
The Illustration Friday challenge this week is 'spirit' which has many definitions but I thought I would go with the alcoholic kind.

Let it Snow Wall Hanging

I had a fun day yesterday with friends when we went to Fat Quarters to make a Christmas surprise. The surprise was this quilted hanging 'let it snow'.
I finished it off today with a few differences - I put 'snow' on the gaps on the tree and used a machined star to quilt with. I made a dogs dinner of the edging but I'm going to leave it because I can [am lazy]. I will be using it as a large coaster on a table rather than a hanging.

Sketchbook Pages

One page from sketchbook 26 - patterns with pens, probably promarkers. This sketchbook is A4 size while the pictures below are from a smaller sketchbook [8x5"], a moleskine. The moleskine [no 30] has much better paper than the book above. I can't remember what make the book above is...but it was cheap. And as I fill a lot of books, cheap sometimes wins over quality. The one thing I do like about it though is that it is bigger than the moleskine. Also with a cheap book I don't mind ripping the odd page out if the drawing is too awful but I wouldn't like to that with the moleskine.

Snowman

It's been snowing this weekend and I couldn't resist making a snowman. I found a big shell for his nose and marbles for eyes, dead plants for hair and arms.

Seasonal Placemats

Some people assume because I like embroidery and making textile pictures and such, that I also like and am good at dressmaking, mending and other such activities. I shall put you right, I have a love hate relationship with regular sewing. I quite like it sometimes when things are going right but most of the time they don't..grrrr.. It is probably my fault in that I don't measure things correctly like with these placemats, although I thought I had and also not keeping a straight line while sewing. I wanted them to look different but I did want them all the same size but they are not. I like them now they are done apart from the sizing issue but there was a lot of frustration while making them.

The edge on the one below looks blue on the photo but it is actually green.

The fabrics were purchased, not my designs.

C&G Artwork, Penguin Blanket

More C&G art work
Above - these are lino prints, inspired by the marks on a turtle. The marks are etched into the lino with a tool and then used with paint to print onto paper [or fabric]
The marks on this paper were made with cling film, acrylic paints and brusho
Rows of honesty seed pods glued to the paper
Watercolour painting
And another blanket made from knitted samples

The snowman bag giveaway ends tomorrow so if you want a chance of winning don't forget to comment on that post. Click here for details

I made the knitted snowman and angel  many years ago when my children were small, I've still got them, they usually sit on the tree.

Tree Decorations Tutorial

To make the tree decorations you will need some metal bangles and some small square scraps of fabric - a piece to go each side of the bangle. Pin it all round, then stitch it all round, some I have stitched both sides of the bangle. You can put the hanging tag around before you stitch or after as I have on most of them. Trim around when the stitching is finished, being careful not to trim the hanging thread if you did put it on before stitching.

The bangle below is made using a 'see thru fabric', this one has a sparkly sheen to it [organza] Before stitching I put some gold snowflakes, stars and a red star between the fabrics. I also stitched across the circle several times as I didn't want all the sequins to go to the bottom.

This one has bits of organza in different colours and some metallic scraps and was stitched across randomly. The organza looks good next to the window where you can see through them. you could try other things in the centre.

This one is just a textured metallic silver fabric

For this one [each side is different] I did the embroidery first [actually they were recycled scraps from another projects]

The blue one is from some old embroidered clothing

Gingham for the country kitchen look - background is large checks & the stitched scraps are smaller squares.
They could be made really neatly if you have the inclination & time.

The snowman was also made from a bangle. Bend it to shape, then cover it with tissue & pva glue. Let it dry, then paint white. Stick on beads for eyes etc. The hat & buttons were made from faux leather scraps, you could use felt instead. Before sticking the hat, put a small hole thru the top of the head and thread thru a hanging wire. Finish off with a bit of ribbon for a scarf.
