the realization--a mixed media collage

Do you ever find a collage photo that just makes you laugh?  So it is with little Mary Ann, or so I've named her . . . That's gold embossing around the edges of Mary Ann's "photo." And of course this vintage little lady needs a bit of vintage lace and trim on this 6x6 mixed media collage. You can see a bit of the pocket here, an Altered Pages image printed on vellum depicting an historic, if inaccurate, view of the universe. Can you see the lace pull on the edge of the tag peeping out of the top of the pocket? Both collage and tag were made from the same piece of mixed media collaged background. "Mary Ann was stunned by the realization that the universe did NOT revolve around her." I hope you enjoyed this piece from the past, created quite a few years ago for Altered Pages.   Did you know that Altered Pages doesn't just have collage images you can print, but also collage backgrounds?  PLUS color specific collage page...

Watery Inky Color Ways

With so many color products on the market its always fun to play and see what you can do with them, and sometimes keeping it simple can achieve great results.  The past few weeks I have been planning a collaboration art retreat for a small group of crafters with a friend.  Our theme is Exploring the Secrets of the Deep, as we are heading to the beach for a week of art and nurturing our souls, so with Mermaids in mind, I decided to create some watery backgrounds I can use in my journal . I grabbed a variety of color products in watery tones that I know either react with water or are water soluble, such as my Radiant Neon Inks , Gelatos , Splash Inks and Dylusions Spray Inks.   You could also use really watered down Acrylic Paints, Pigment Based Ink Pads or even Markers.  Next I grabbed my non stick craft mat but if you don't have one of these you could simply use a piece of plastic such as a protector page. By adding color to the craft matt, ...

An Old-Fashioned Romance

Hello again!  The season of romance is upon us.  Valentine's Day is just a few weeks away and I have a canvas today to get us into a romantic mood. As you all know, the Altered Pages Design Team has been playing with all sorts of Deco Art products this month.  Today I've used crackle paste, antiquing medium, matte varnish and a gorgeous floral stencil.  Combine them with a lovely Altered Pages Young Lovers Valentine collage , some paper flowers and other embellishments and I have a vintage-looking canvas ! Here's how I got here... Check out How to Make "An Old-Fashioned Romance" Canvas by Robin Horasanian on Snapguide . Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you'll come by again tomorrow and see what the team has to inspire you.  Happy crafting!

Making Stencils the Star of Christmas

Hi Everyone!  Danie here with you today!  I've been a little Stencil Crazy the past few weeks and with Christmas looming I really had to make a serious start to my Christmas Card Making.  So I got out my Gelli Plate and acrylic paints and some stencils that had just arrived in my latest Altered Pages Order. The Triangle Plaid and Honeycomb 12 Inch stencils from The Crafters Workshop worked a treat to create some grungy backgrounds. I teamed them with the gorgeous Vintage Images from the Happy Holidays Collage Sheet AP-505.  There was no need for any added sentiment as the images included Seasonal Greetings on them. After inking edges and layering, to finish I embellished with some Half the Edge Cardstock Strips from Bazzill in read and ribbon, flowers and bling from my stash. Speaking of Stencils and Christmas, the  Quick and Easy Santa Card Kit  (card in photo above) is available to purchase from the Altered Pages Store...

Messing About with Masking Tape, Mists and Gelatos

Hi Everyone!  Danie here with you all today.   Recently I have been playing creating some backgrounds for my ATC's, Cards and Art Journal, so I thought I would share one of my techniques with you which I love. For these backgrounds you need some of your favorite colored mists and your Gelatos .  If you don't have any premade mists, you can make your own with your Gelatos.  The Gelatos give a more subtle effect then some of the premade mists such as Dylusions, Glimmer Mists etc.  For my above photo I have used mists (Lindy's Stamp Gang Flat Fabios) I already owned, but for the example below I have made some using my Gelatos. To start I chose my desired color of metallic gelatos and then some contrasting bright colors gelatos to be used to make my own mists.  For my mists today I am using Orange, Green and Yellow and these will also be used to add color and pattern with my stencils later on my background also.  Scrape off som...

Gelling with my Gel Plate!

Hi Everyone!  It's Danie here with you today!  I am so happy right now as I have crossed another item of my wish list in the past week!  When I received my last Altered Pages Order it included my new Gelli Plate and what fun I have been having with it ever since. I love getting messy and creating totally random backgrounds (when I have the time) so this was just the new toy for me.  I hardly had it out of the box before I started playing.  Luckily it came wrapped in some extra huge bubble wrap which was perfect to use to make impressions with and remove paint from the plate.  With my plate I had also ordered some of the new Splash Inks , so I tested these out also. I dropped random drops of the four Splash Ink Colors on my plate, and then using my brayer I ensured the ink totally covered the plate.  In doing so I got a wonderful random mix of colors to which I then pressed in the bubble wrap to create a simple background which I have used for my c...

Holiday Cards with Shimmer, Dimension and Shine using Altered Pages Collage Images

Welcome to Altered Pages - hope you are enjoying your weekend! Susan here and now that November is upon us, Christmas card creating and handmade holiday gift making is in full swing. Today I am sharing a Christmas Card I made using a single digital vintage image from AlteredPages.com . This is a vintage Christmas greeting { AP single 601 } of a holiday storefront window. I printed out four copies onto a matte finish white cardstock. Four copies are enough so that I can accent and dimensionalize the base layer, then accent sections of the figures that I cut out and raise with foam pop dots for a faux 3-D effect. I accented the details using different colors of the  Terri Sproul Mixers  and also made the window dimensional by painting with  Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer . I cut out the figures and sections to build up multiple layers using foam pop dots. Before adhering, I finished off the white edges of the hand-cut pieces wi...
