Mixed Media Necklace

Happy February Everyone!  This month we are celebrating the color Red and how powerful a color it is...I mean it is the color of L.O.V.E, right? Pretty powerful.  So, check back with us all month long and see what we come up with using red in our works.  I have for you a mixed media Steampunk inspired necklace featuring reds and pinks.   There is a supply list below directing you to everything you need to make one of your own, with variations as well.  I began with a DIY bezel style pendant.  I was so excited to begin that I forgot to snap a before pic of the blank bezel.  You can see what they look like  here.   Next, a collage image was added using  PPA Glue. You can see it is still a little milky white as this was just after applying the wet PPA glue.  I allowed mine to dry overnight, but it was almost totally dry in a couple hours.  I then colorized a chipboard gear with acrylic paint then added a...

A couple tricks up my sleeve . . .

In my last post, I shared one of my favorite embossing powder techniques, that Faux Glass finish, which you can see here .  Today I'll share a couple more of my favorite embossing powder tricks. Nothing beats the wonderful digital collages from AlteredPages which are the perfect items to emboss and add to your cards, collages, books and more. First up, embossing powder resist.  Simply use a clear embossing powder to create an image on vintage ephemera or Altered Pages Collage Background, here a butterfly onto sheet music, then rub ink over the embossed image.  The image remains the color of the ephemera underneath.  Fun, right? Another favorite embossing powder trick of mine is to use the embossing powder to create an edge to pieces, whether small ones attached to collages or cards, or as in this case, to create a finished edge to altered chipboard dominoes . These chipboard dominoes have leather lacing and glass beads attached to create bookmarks--thus,...

Rock Around the Christmas Tree

I had such fun making this one.    I actually giggled a couple times thinking about Christmases past.  Sweet memories of the Night Before Christmas. I remember my Grandmother having a red  wreath made of  cellophane  on  her door.  Anyone else  remember  those? EVERYONE had the lighted candles in their windows and BIG bulb outdoor lights.  Cheesy music (we do currently have Grandma got run over by a reindeer) and cardboard decorations were the norms.  AND miraculously we waited until mid- December to start decorating, not before Halloween! I had this record in its original paper jacket given to me by Lyneen.   I found it again as I pulled out the Holiday items.  I almost didn't want to do anything to it, but that is silly. It needed to be shared.  I hesitantly cut apart the jacket.  I used Art Anthology paint with a shimmer for the base coat on the canvas.  I t...

Double Tag split

If you haven't heard we are having a Tag Challenge!  Find out details HERE  to join the fun! My Tag project for Altered Pages is this duo of tags I created. I had much fun making them and am over the moon with the result. Start with two tags. Use a small piece of Washi Tape to secure them together for stamping and embossing. With dark ink and large stamp, stamp the image halfway on each tag. I used coordinating embossing powder over the stamped image, set with heat tool.  Heat embossing the image water proofs  it, allowing me to use wet water paints over the tag. Next, I sprayed the tags with water, then using orange and yellow water colours  with a water brush painted over the tag. Then blotted with paper towel and dried with the heat gun. This muted the colours considerably.   When the tags were dry I stamped with a background text stamp rand...
