Floral Wood Butterfly

If you know me, you know I work outside the box.  If you tell me "you have" to paint something pink, most likely I will paint it any color but pink.    After opening the package I was looking at the beautiful wood grain on the Foundations Decor Wood Butterfly and thought I would show off the grain.     Instead of painting or papering the butterfly, I decided to enhanced the wood.     Before I get too far ahead of myself, let me tell you about the Foundations Decor wood.  I expected a product that I would have the prep before working with it.  Many wood products need to be finished by sanding to get a smooth finish.  There was no need to sand the Foundations Decor products, the wood is ready to work with.   Oh, and I decided the body of my Wood Butterfly  would be a clothespin! Life is a Beach!

We love the beach!   What better represents fun days in sun and sand but a Beachball.   We had to use this one for a fun project and a Father's Day gift! Eddie loves the beach and adores his grandkids! (yes more than me!) The beachball comes fully sanded and ready to paint or add papers on the three individual pieces.   I added Chalk Paint color Inheritance to the base of the ball.    Next was choosing a Dixie Belle paint in colors of Gulf or Plum Crazy for the segments, finally choosing Gulf.  Did you know Dixie Belle is non-toxic and made in the USA, all natural, no animal testing and no fumes or harsh chemicals.  You can order it at  DIY Design Studio .  I used a Dixie Belle chip brush and it only takes one coat in most all cases. I trimmed around the ball in a funky paper.  The center disc was covered with the same paper.  When you do not have a punch to get perfect round edges, use ...

Dixie Belle on a clamshell.

You probably already know you can paint pretty much anything with chalk paints, right?  I've used it on wood, metal, and glass, but I have to admit, this is my first time using chalk paint on a clamshell. 1.  A thin coat of paint, slightly watered down, coating the inside of said shell 2.  Iridescent plastic ribbon, accordion folded and stitched at one end, to look like a fan. 3.  The rock is holding the down the stitched end of the ribbon, which is drying with a dollop of glue, and a colored toothpick was added to the back of the collage image to give it support. Glue Haiku waiting for the glue project with many pieces an eternity  (It's okay, go ahead and moan--it was supposed to be ridiculous!) Added some sparkly white tulle, iridescent glass beads, "pearls," and tiny shells.  (I dunno who dyed all those tiny pink shells--it sure wasn't me.)  Ta-da!  Bathing Beauty. Stuff I used: ...

Have you enjoyed all the great projects the Altered Pages design team has this month with Dixie Belle Paints?  I have... can't wait to see what they have in store for the last week of the month!   This month I have been on a roll!!!  For some reason the sea is calling me and all of my projects have had a seas theme.  Here we are today with a sea themed little treasure box.     I love the coverage of the Dixie Belle Paint on plain wood.  I only put one coat of paint on this box! Supplies: Dixie Belle Paint - Sea Glass Dixie Belle Glaze - Van Dyke Dixie Belle Clear Coat Wooden box 3 x 3 inches Burlap Tacky Glue Gold Leafing Charms Dew Drops Shells Sea Stars     Paint wooden box with Dixie Belle Paint - Sea Glass , set aside to dry!   Careful not to paint the hardware!   I painted the box inside and out to give it a finished look!   Once dry apply a thin coat of Dixi...
