On the move

Summer is the time that a lot of families take long vacations.  The weather is nice, kids are out of school and it's always great to get away.  You're going to take a lot of photos while you're away and there is a good chance that many of you will create scrapbooks.  This could be used in a pocket perhaps with your own photos on the flip side.  Some of you may even be bringing back souvenirs for friends and family and need a gift tag.  Either way, my project today is for you. Altered Pages has many destination themed collages so no matter where you're headed, chances are you can find some great images to compliment your photos or gifts.  I chose several images from mostly non-U.S. cities for my tag.  I've never been anywhere so I may as well dream big. I chose to use Memento Luxe in 4 colors and Donna Salazar Mixed Media in in Truffle brown.  The Memento colors were sponged on at random and the Mixed Media ink was sponged aroun...

the realization--a mixed media collage

Do you ever find a collage photo that just makes you laugh?  So it is with little Mary Ann, or so I've named her . . . That's gold embossing around the edges of Mary Ann's "photo." And of course this vintage little lady needs a bit of vintage lace and trim on this 6x6 mixed media collage. You can see a bit of the pocket here, an Altered Pages image printed on vellum depicting an historic, if inaccurate, view of the universe. Can you see the lace pull on the edge of the tag peeping out of the top of the pocket? Both collage and tag were made from the same piece of mixed media collaged background. "Mary Ann was stunned by the realization that the universe did NOT revolve around her." I hope you enjoyed this piece from the past, created quite a few years ago for Altered Pages.   Did you know that Altered Pages doesn't just have collage images you can print, but also collage backgrounds?  PLUS color specific collage page...

Ready to ring in the New Year

Today I have a tag that would be a lovely addition to that hostess gift you're taking with you on New Year's Eve.  Perfect for a package or hanging on a bottle of wine, this tag will let you ring in the New Year on a festive note. My inspiration for this tag was the lovely lady in black and white.  I saw her on the Life in the 20s collage sheet and had to use the image.  Don't you just love flappers with all the fringe?  I made an urban background with a brick stencil and two colors of ink.  I chose one of the clocks on the Time Travel stencil that is about to hit 12:00 midnight.  The bricks and clock are available at Altered Pages and they are two of my favorite stencils.  I added a cityscape with silver ink windows and then layered on some fancy lace and holiday collage images.   Now...where's the party? Supplies used : Bricks stencil Time Travel stencil Ink Lace & fibers Tacky Glue (to hold down the lace) Double...

A Little of This and a Little of That...

Welcome to the  Alteredpages.com Blog. Today, I have for you a couple large Halloween themed tags.  I used the same  Crafters Workshop stencil  and one  Raven themed collage sheet  as the jumping off point for my two tags.  I used similar products and even similar placement for each element.   You will see however, that I acheived two completely different looks.   I also used a newer item to Altered Pages,  Tyvek envelopes  to create beautiful DIY flowers.  I will include a seperate tutorial on the flowers at the bottom of this post.   You really must try this technique!!!  It is 100% addictive.  Let's begin... Grab your tag and break that blank background with an ink of your choice.   You can mist, sponge, watercolor, etc.   Splash Inks  are perfect for this!  Next, apply another layer over your stencil.  I used a darker green ink sprayed on t...
