Protagoras thinks it unprofita ble to follow up the idle opinions of ignorant men; see 353 a, l. 75, below.

ὑπὸ τῶν ἡδονῶν ἡττᾶσθαι: is pred. of (cf. 353

α ξ, 354 e, 357 c), but the true character of that which they call ‘being controlled by the passions’ is repeated and appended freely to the rel. clause, καὶ οὐ πράττειν κτἑ.
