ὄντι: attracted from the fem. by the neut. ἑνί. Cf. 354 c τὴν ἡδονὴν ὡς ἀγαθὸν ὄν. See H. 610.

γάρ: is it not so? γάρ refers back to the preceding conclusion; and ἄλλως πως indicates that a general expression (like οὕτως ἔχει) is to be supplied. —

καί: and that, although.

τὸ πρότερον: cf. 331
