Burg Eltz

Scrappy Monday, y'all, with an emphasis on MONDAY.  I was about to get Ryan out the door for his first day of soccer camp and we discovered a giant roach in the house.  So I took care of that, dropped Ryan off, and went to Walmart to buy Sphaghetti-Os because Ryan thinks they're a food group and we were almost out.  I was walking towards the store, minding my own business, when a big black bird whacked into my head!  (I don't know if he's a raven or a crow, but something like that.). I yelled "REALLY?!  WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!" while the bird strutted off, supremely unconcerned by my indignation.  So I bought Star Wars Oreos to soothe my ruffled feathers (pun intended) and on the way back to my car THE SAME DANG BIRD DID IT AGAIN.  And that is why I am eating Oreos for breakfast.

Anyway, I did finally take pictures of a giant stack of scrapbook layouts last week so for today I have two layouts from that batch.  Here's the first one:

Unlike most of the castles we visited in Europe, Burg Eltz is privately owned by the Eltz family to this day and they still live there.  It was about a two-hour drive from our house to the castle, which is situated in a forested valley so you pretty much can't see it until you're super close to it.

Ryan paid attention to the tour guide's spiel and asked a question or two about the castle that showed he really was listening, which surprised the tour guide (and to be honest, the hubs and I were wondering what was going to come out of his mouth when his hand shot up to ask a question).  We got some snacks in the castle's cafe before we left, and we decided to hike back to the parking lot so we got more pictures of the castle from the surrounding forest.  It was pretty cool and obviously I had a lot of pictures I liked and I couldn't narrow it down more than this, so two layouts it is.

Today's color palette:  Pale Papaya, Balmy Blue, Pear Pizzazz, Grapefruit Grove, Gumball Green, and Whisper White.

Okay, I have just over an hour and a half left before I have to go pick Ryan up, so I'm going to work on my last batch of scrapbook layouts before I get things ready to move--packers will be here next Monday!  Eek!  But maybe I'll eat one more Oreo first.  Cheers, y'all!

St. Peter's

Scrappy Monday, y'all.  I think I'm going to need extra caffeine today--Ryan insisted on sleeping in my bed last night and he tends to hit or push me throughout the night, so my sleep was definitely interrupted.  I had weird, disjointed dreams about trying to hide from Darth Vader in a car (like that would work), buying a copy of a long-lost Beatles album called Blue that was the soundtrack to a TV show that never got produced, and on my way from that I found my mom and helped her rent a car and so she gave me a frosted brownie to say thanks, and I was still holding that brownie when I got off a plane in Brazil with my friend Missy.  Probably the weirdest dream progression I can ever remember having!

Anyway, we had a good trip to Waco on Friday/Saturday and then I was down with a headache the rest of the weekend, so I'm glad to be feeling human again this morning.  Ryan is at his first day of karate camp, and I have a scrapbook layout to share from a 2012 trip to Italy!

We didn't actually go into St. Peter's, just took pictures in the piazza out front.  This layout was a great excuse for me to use Heavenly Heralds, which is a long-retired stamp set that I bought on eBay for cheap a few years ago.  That picture of the hubs in the upper right corner always makes me giggle.

Today's color palette:  Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, Ballet Blue, Concord Crush, and Whisper White.  Technically all of those colors are retired but they can live forever in my scrapbooks ; )

Cheers, y'all!

Duxford

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Hope your Thanksgiving week is off to a good start.  I bought a roasting pan this weekend to use for the Thanksgiving turkey...yeah that pan is about a half-inch too wide for my oven.  Disposable pan it is!

In the meantime, I have a layout to share today.  This one goes right after the Bury St. Edmunds one I posted last week.

These pics are from our visit to the Duxford Imperial War Museum in England in 2011.  I carried over the poppy theme from the BSE layout on this one, appropriate since one of the pictures is of the memorial for American aircrew downed during WWII.  I do still love those alphabet stamps from the retired Letters for You, the coordinating dies make it so easy.  I used them on another layout last week.

Today's color palette:  Night of Navy, Marina Mist, Calypso Coral, Poppy Parade, So Saffron, Old Olive, Mossy Meadow, and Whisper White.  Slightly salty that the Sweet Pea DSP Stack is not true 12x12, they're about an eighth of an inch shy.  I just went with it for this layout but I did put a note on the rest of the paper that it's short, so I'll know for next time.

Have a great day, peeps!

Stonehenge (Again)

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Most of the time, I don't scrap chronologically; I prefer to jump around as inspiration takes me.  Since Ryan came along though, I've been scrapping everything from his birth chronologically, but I alternate between those pages and older ones that I hadn't gotten to yet.  So here's some older pics that just got scrapped this summer:

See the original pics here.  Not gonna lie, I'm ready for some cooler weather here.  I haven't even had any tea for over a week because it's been so hot!

Today's color palette was inspired by the sunset picture on the left page:  Purple Posy, Petal Pink, Pool Party, and Smoky Slate.  Haven't been able to scrap lately after being sick with Covid and I'm going to have Ryan home with me for the next couple of weeks.  Maybe when he starts school I'll be able to scrap more.

Cheers!

Beautiful Scotland

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  After an unintended months-long scrapping hiatus, I actually got a bunch of pages done last week!  Buuuut I haven't taken pictures of them yet, so here's one of the layouts I finished back in January:

These were some miscellaneous pics from our first trip to Scotland in 2011 that didn't really fit on any of the other layouts.  Had to document the first time we had sticky toffee pudding! : )  I kept the layout suuuper simple with most of the photos in a straight line and then some patterned paper from the In the Wild DSP--it's not all tigers and cheetahs!  Love that floral pattern.

Today's color palette:  Gray Granite, Evening Evergreen, Shaded Spruce, and just a wee smidge of Crushed Curry on the patterned paper.

Cheers, y'all!

Super 'Do

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  We had a good weekend even though it rained a lot.  On Saturday, we crossed the border into France and went shopping at a couple of junk shops--they sell antique furniture, but also a huge array of home decor things and all kinds of stuff, it was fun!  Then last night we watched Raya and the Last Dragon and I loved it :)

The hubs cut Ryan's hair yesterday so I just had to choose this layout to share today!

Somehow I missed these pictures when I was doing Ryan's baby book, so I put them on a layout in my chronological album instead.  Yeah, that wild hairdo on the right?  That was my mother's handiwork.  She wanted to try using hair gel on Ryan and I said fine as long as you wash it out afterward.  She was trying to give him a Superman curl, haha!

Today's color palette is straight from Superman's costume:  Pacific Point, Summer Sun, Poppy Parade, and a bit of Basic Gray and Whisper White.  I got to use some old Superman stickers from my stash, and I could not have asked for a more perfect layout to use them on!

Today is my first weekday off (other than Memorial Day, which doesn't really count) in two weeks, so I'm going to ENJOY it.  Got all my laundry done on Saturday, we cleaned up the house yesterday, so I can play in my craft room with zero guilt.  I have one card I have to make for someone, and then I am GOING to FINISH the five scrapbook layouts that have been languishing in my craft room for MONTHS waiting for me to journal them.  But first I'm going to enjoy my morning cuppa tea : )

Cheers, y'all!

Ryan: February (Again)

We're almost at the end, folks.  Since Ryan's birthday is right smack in the middle of the month, I did a February layout for right after he was born and then another one for when he turned one.

After all, I needed a place to write about that crazy move.  We never did a photo shoot for his birthday; the three middle pics on here were taken on his first birthday and that was it, so it's a good thing we did his birthday celebration before we got to NC.

Today's color palette:  Coastal Cabana (I used this a lot in Ryan's baby book), Pacific Point, Flirty Flamingo, Lovely Lipstick, Soft Suede, and Whisper White.  It's a bunch of pink and hearts but you can't escape that with Valentine's Day.

See you next time, same Bat time, same Bat channel :)

Ryan: Happy Birthday!

I have a two-fer today for Ryan's baby book because I'm up to his first birthday celebration!

The week before Ryan's birthday, we were moving out of our house in Virginia and prepping to move into the new house in North Carolina, so Ryan spent his first birthday in a hotel.  We did a birthday celebration at the Virginia hotel so that Missy and Bennet could be there too (and Missy's mom), and both my parents were in town to help us with the move.  That turned out to be a Very Good Thing because once we got to NC, all hell broke loose:  the day we got our household goods delivered, the hubs had the flu and a 105-degree fever, Ryan was coming down with it too, and I was in the hospital emergency room, waiting to be admitted for emergency gallbladder surgery.  That was the most exciting move we've ever had, and definitely worse than either of the overseas moves.  (As I type this, we haven't gotten to Germany yet, so I'm hoping that move isn't as heinous as this one was even though I know we're in for a two-week quarantine when we arrive).

So anyway, I got a cheap tablecloth to put on the floor and we got a Red Velvet cake from Wegman's for Ryan's first birthday cake.  I picked another favorite DSP and chose the colors based on that.

Pacific Point isn't in the DSP but works well with the other colors, which are Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Tangelo Twist, Mossy Meadow, and Whisper White.  I bought multiple packs of this DSP because I loved this pattern so much.

Cheers, y'all!

Ryan: January

Ooh hey, we finally hit 2018 in Ryan's baby book, and since his birthday is in February that means we're almost done!  Which means I'll start sharing the baby book layouts for my nephew next, haha.  I haven't made any more baby books since that one though.

I was keeping track of what colors I used for Ryan's baby book and by this point I was like NEEDS MOAR PURPLE so that's why the Rich Razzleberry page base.  Not sure it was the best decision, but that's what I did.  I picked a colorful patterned paper and then used the same colors for my photo mats so this January layout is anything but dreary.  And also THAT YODA HAT.  I love it.

Pretty much got a full rainbow happening here:  Rich Razzleberry, Tangerine Tango, Lucky Limeade, Pacific Point, Pool Party, Daffodil Delight, Chocolate Chip, and Whisper White.

Until next time, stampy friends!

Ryan: December

Howdy y'all!  Ready for another baby book layout?

Since I used the traditional Christmas colors on Ryan's 10-month layout, I wasn't worried about doing that for this layout.  I chose Baked Brown Sugar to coordinate with the bear onesie in the top picture, and that led me to the Retro Fresh DSP.  I love that pattern with the multicolored squares so I was happy to use some of it on here.  The bottom three pics on the right are all from Ryan's first trip to Texas; he got to take a bath in his Mimi's kitchen sink.  He's way too big (and wiggly) to fit in a kitchen sink now.

Today's Retro Fresh color palette is Baked Brown Sugar (apparently I was confused when I took the palette picture, I used Soft Suede), Tangerine Tango, Call Me Clover (which is not in the DSP but the color seemed to jive with the rest of the color palette), Coastal Cabana, So Saffron, and Very Vanilla.  Not at all traditional Christmas or winter colors, but I like it.

Cheers, y'all!

Leaning Tower of Pisa

Scrappy Monday!  I'm back with another Europe layout; today we're in Italy!

Check out the original pictures here. I said a while back that I used Dusty Durango on several layouts in a row, behold the evidence!  I've done a lot of layouts with castles and other buildings that are primarily gray, so it's always been a personal challenge to make the layouts look different from each other and play with different colors.  For this one, there were some orangey accents on the not-Leaning-Tower buildings, so that led me to Dusty Durango, and I "cooled it down" with greens and gray taken directly from the pictures.

So here's today's palette:  Dusty Durango, Smoky Slate, Pistachio Pudding, Garden Green, and Whisper White.  What do you think?

Cheers, y'all!

Ryan: November

Trucking right along with the baby book layouts, and here we are up to November!

I scrapped all of 2017 chronologically (unusual for me, the perennial skip-arounder) and I did a few Thanksgiving layouts for our regular scrapbook albums using Wonderfall for the stamped accents as well, though completely different colors.  One benefit of skipping around is I can use the same stamp sets multiple times and not have several layouts in a row that all look alike ;) Anyway, I've got some cute pics of Ryan on here and one very silly one of the hubs which I am just so glad I managed to include on here.  People around me should know, if you make a silly face and I catch a picture of it, it's going either on my blog or in my scrapbooks.

Today's color palette includes Baja Breeze (perhaps my all-time favorite SU! color), Not Quite Navy, Garden Green, and More Mustard.  And a bit of Soft Suede which I didn't put in the palette picture.  Baja Breeze might be an unusual choice for a fall color palette, but I liked it.

Peace out, peeps!

Ryan: October

Okay kids, since we have the movers arriving on Monday and then we'll be living out of suitcases for most likely at least two months when we get to Germany (and pretty much a month between now and then for good measure), I am writing up a bunch of blog posts to go live in between now and whenever I have my new craft room up and running.  So please enjoy these prerecorded messages, heh.

Time for October in Ryan's baby book!

I always feel like I don't get to use much purple in my scrapbooks (even the regular ones, not just Ryan pages), so when I do manage to sneak it in I'm proud of me.  Happily it seemed to work for these pictures.  These are the last few pics of Ryan with his Beatles mop top hairdo; you can see in a few of them it's post haircut.  The hair on that kid.  Anywha, I am particularly proud of the picture on the bottom right of Ryan with the vacuum cleaner; I took it on my phone and when I had it printed as a 4x6 both Ryan and the vacuum were cut off.  So I had it reprinted as a 5x5 and voila!  We got the whole picture in there.  Ryan was too little to stand up on his own, my hubs is holding him steady while Ryan holds the vacuum, we just thought it was funny.

Today's color palette was definitely Halloween-inspired:  Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Granny Apple Green, Bermuda Bay, Gorgeous Grape, and Whisper White.  As I type this I am trying to talk myself out of buying all the Halloween stuff in the mini catalog this year; I have a bunch of Halloween paper and stamps already, and I don't even really send out Halloween cards, but I might as well have SUCKER stamped on my forehead.  Well, we'll see which side of me wins the argument.  What do you think, do I need more Halloween stamps and paper?

Cheers, y'all!

It's the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!

Mornin' y'all!  Today's baby book layout has some of my FAVORITE pictures from Ryan's first year--his Halloween costume!  He was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from the original Ghostbusters.

Ryan actually likes to watch that movie now; there are parts that I remember hiding behind the couch so I wouldn't see them (scary library ghost, I'm looking at you) but those are the parts Ryan thinks are funny and he asks to rewind and watch them again.  Love it.  Also, I believe the baby blanket he's sitting on is the one I was wrapped in coming home from the hospital when I was born--my mom had started making a pink one, but a friend told her, "You want a girl so much, this baby is going to be a boy!" so she made a blue one instead and the pink one wasn't finished before I was born.

Anyway, back to the layout.  Even in my vast DSP collection, I couldn't find a Real Red pattern I liked for this layout, so I used some non-SU paper.  Also it took me a long time to stamp that very long page title and I didn't realize until afterward that the lower-case T is supposed to be dropped a little bit.  Oops.  But I wasn't going to redo it.  There is a Ghostbusters Little Golden Book and one page has "It's the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!" in huge letters, which is what I was thinking of when I made this layout.

Today's color palette is Whisper White, Real Red, Blueberry Bushel, and Balmy Blue who was absent on school picture day.

Have a great weekend, y'all!  Maybe I'll get a smidgen of stamping time this week but I'm not holding my breath.  Moving is a lot of work. :p

Stamps:  Letters for You, Brushwork Alphabet
Ink:  Balmy Blue, Blueberry Bushel
Paper:  Whisper White, Balmy Blue, Blueberry Bushel, non-SU patterned paper

Ryan: September

Happy Saturday once again, folks!  It's time once again for a baby book layout from Ryan's book.

Once Ryan started crawling, the thing he was most interested in getting to was the dogs' water bowl.  If I set him down on the floor at one end of the house, he would immediately start crawling to the water bowl through three rooms to the other side of the house.  In some of these pictures he's wearing an outfit that has construction equipment on it and it was just SO cute and I let that outfit determine some of the colors for this layout.

Smoky Slate, Basic Gray, and Crushed Curry came from the outfit; I added Dapper Denim, Cucumber Crush, and of course Whisper White to round out the colors.

Cheers, y'all!

Ryan: August

Mornin' y'all!  I have a fun summery layout for Ryan's baby book to share today.

If I could get single color packs of 12x12 cardstock, I would buy a metric ton of Granny Apple Green, Balmy Blue, Shaded Spruce, Mango Melody, and probably more ;) I know I've said it before but I mean it.  Anyway, I adore that patterned paper and I've been hoarding it for years so I'm glad I used some of it on Ryan's baby book.  Ryan's honorary Aunt Tea gave him his first haircut and his honorary cousins had so much fun playing with him :)

Today's very colorful palette includes Granny Apple Green, Night of Navy, Balmy Blue, Riding Hood Red, Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron, and Whisper White.

I think Ryan and I will be heading back out to the splash pad again today.  He ran around there for two hours yesterday and loved it :)  Gotta do it while the weather is nice, we're supposed to have another week of thunderstorms.  Cheers, y'all!

Ryan: July

Hey hey, it's Saturday!  And we're trucking right along with Ryan's baby book layouts here.

We had both sets of grandparents visit at the end of June/beginning of July so I had lots of pictures from that; I was able to crop pictures down so I could squeeze in more photos on the layout.  I love the two that I left full-size though; on the left is Ryan's "finger in the light socket" look (which is what happened every time we washed his hair and dried it with the hairdryer), and on the right is Ryan trying to reach the light fixture in the living area, he loved that thing.  The hubs used to hold him up to touch it and then yell "ZAP!" when he did and Ryan thought that was HILARIOUS.

Today's happy Superman color palette includes Daffodil Delight, Riding Hood Red (still probably my favorite red ever), Blueberry Bushel, Balmy Blue, and Whisper White.

Have a good weekend, y'all!

Ryan: June

Mornin' y'all!  I had intended to post this yesterday, but the hubs was on the computer in the morning and I was working on other stuff in the afternoon and it just didn't get done.  So here it is now!

This layout was tough for me.  The picture on top of the right-hand page was taken at the very end of June, so I wanted it on the right page, but I hate to have people looking "off" the page and this layout was just kinda difficult.  Even after I stuck everything down, I switched the pages around--it does work with the patterned paper on the outside edges of the layout, and I can't remember right now which way I eventually put it in Ryan's baby book.

I picked Pumpkin Pie for my page base because bright orange seemed nice and summery for a June layout, and it worked with the greens and blues I pulled out of the photos.  So the palette for today is Pumpkin Pie, Brilliant Blue, Wild Wasabi, Bashful Blue, and Whisper White.  All the colors except Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White are retired now.

I think I'm gonna go watch Cars 2 with Ryan now.  We just had orange scones for breakfast and my hubs is missing out since he's not up yet ;)  Cheers!

Ryan: While You Were Sleeping

Hey y'all!  Back again with another layout from Ryan's baby book.  My plan was to do pretty much two layouts for each month, but occasionally I had a collection of pictures I just couldn't resist using and that's how this layout came to be:

I took a lot of pictures of Ryan while he was sleeping and had to put them all on here because they're adorable.  He didn't typically nap on the floor in the kitchen; I put him on his blanket one day so I could do dishes real quick and he fell asleep while I was working :)

Today's color palette includes Poppy Parade, Crushed Curry, Blueberry Bushel, Balmy Blue, Basic Gray, and Whisper White.  Poppy Parade was taken straight from Ryan's outfits, and so was the Blueberry Bushel; I added Crushed Curry because who doesn't like a Superman-esque classic red-yellow-blue color scheme?

I think we're going to a newly reopened state park today to go take a look around while the weather is nice, so I'd better get ready to go.  Cheers, y'all!

Sadie Belle

Hey y'all.  Last week was really tough for me.  It's been a week since she died, and I'm still looking for our Sadie girl in all her favorite spots.  Sigh.

After Vader died last year, I really put some effort into getting a lot of our dog pictures scrapped.  We loved those doggos, and as I told my husband, I'd wager that I spent more time in a room with one or both of them over the last 13+ years than I have with HIM.  Today's layout is from right when we first adopted our Sadie in July of 2006.

Sadie was an accidental acquisition :)  We had driven up to Greenville for the day and I wanted to go to their Michaels, which was right next to Petsmart, and they were doing an adoption event and there was Sadie all tiny and cute and extra fluffy and it was love at first sight and she came home with us.  I miss our girl.  And Vader.  But I'm glad I made all the pages for them that I have; I'll need to get the album put together soon.

Today's girly color palette is Pink Pirouette, Close to Cocoa, Barely Banana, Real Red, and Basic Black.  Sadie came home with a brown collar (I think it had fish on it?! Maybe it was actually a cat collar) but we soon got her a red collar and she wore red for the rest of her life.  Vader wore a blue collar.
