My Christmas Calender of
nails on the 13th of December has to be dedicated to St. Lucy, a young Sicilian girl who
was martyred, killed for her faith, in 304.
I have told the story before, but here it is again:
In the year 300 Lucia lived
in the city of Syracuse in Sicily. It was a hard life, with a father who had
died and a mother who was seriously ill.
To ensure Lucia a life of wealth, her mother tried to get her married
off. The young girl didn't want that. She ran to the tomb of Saint Agatha and
prayed on her knees for guidance. Miraculously, the mother recovered and called
off Lucia's upcoming wedding. Instead, Lucia gave her entire dowry to the poor
of the city.
Lucia's fiancé, of course, was not very happy about this news. As a revenge, he
gossiped to the emperor about Lucia's Christian faith. At this time, the
Christians were persecuted, and Lucia was therefore condemned to be burned at
the stake. Legend has it she died firm in her faith, with a burning lamp in her
hand.
After her death, Lucia was declared a saint. In art and folklore she is
depicted with a crown of candles, and her memorial feast, which was commonly
celebrated towards the end of the Middle Ages, is dedicated to light. The name
Lucia comes from the Latin word lux, meaning "light". Santa Lucia's
martyrdom was marked in the Catholic Church calendar on the day of her death,
13 December.
I made another galaxy manicure in honour of Santa Lucia (St. Lucy):
Base colour is China Glaze “Water You Waiting For”
The magenta is Different Dimension “Hocus Pocus”
The glitter is OPI “All A’twitter In Glitter”
The stickers are from Aliexpress

I feel a bit unimaginative by keep doing galaxy nails to honour Santa Lucia. But I always ending up loving the results, so why not :D
Beautiful manicure :-) I visited Sicily in June and I spent one day in Syracuse, "Santa Lucia alla Badia" church is beautiful :-)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I am envious of that visit. I want to visit that one day :)
