Savina ~ Purple Confetti

Savina ~ Purple Confetti
Magenta jelly with holo microglitter

Purple Confetti isn’t purple! It’s also the second time it has been featured on my blog. Last time I used this was in November 2012 so I thought it was about time to show off this beauty again. My photographic skills have also improved quite a bit since then.

The polish is a bit on the thick side but I don’t mind that so much. I used two coats to achieve desired opacity and the drying time was average. I expect it’s possible to thin this a bit for faster drying time, but then you might need to apply three coats for full coverage.

Here’s two coats and a layer of topcoat in the sun:

Another shot of the prettiness:

I didn’t have the heart to apply any kind of nail art.
This polish is right up my alley: Pretty colour, lots of shine, glitter and holo goodness. I don’t know what more to ask for.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Average
Finish: Jelly with holo glitter
Overall impression: That’s prettiness in a bottle. I like it a lot. Formula is a bit thick.

Icing, Max Factor and Savina watermarble

Icing, Max Factor and Savina watermarble

Today was apparently a very bad day for water marbling! I had such problems with it that I would have given up if it wasn’t for the fact that I am really stubborn.

I tried everything and nothing worked. I tried different polishes, different water, different cup, even different order of the polishes. Nothing worked. The polishes refused to spread or they dried too fast on the water surface.

I intended to do a burgundy/white/black water marble, but neither the white or the black wanted to spread on the water. So after 15 attempts and literally one million cotton buds later I finally got something to work just a little bit.

This here is Max Factor’s Burgundy Crush, Icing’s Teal for Real and Savina’s Fantasy Files, topped with El Corazón’s 421h/25:

I simply don’t know what went wrong today. Perhaps it’s the temperature or the humidity. It’s weird, that’s what it is.

And this pattern is completely different than what I had in mind, but I had to work fast and dunk those nails into the water when I had something that just vaguely resembled a water marble.

Here are the polishes I used:

Icing: Teal for Real, Max Factor: Burgundy Crush, Savina: Fantasy Files, El Corazón 421h/25

Phew. I’m just glad I got something on my nails!

Morgan Taylor ~ All Dolled Up

Morgan Taylor ~ All Dolled Up
Hot pink with shimmer

Today I’m going to show you a really hot hot pink polish: Morgan Taylor’s All Dolled Up.

The formula is great and the polish almost applies itself. It covers well and I used two coats for this mani. Drying time is really good too.

I had no sun (damnit!) so here’s a picture taken with flash. It’s two coats and a layer of topcoat:

This is a lightbox picture. I love this colour!

I made white and blue dots on it. I used BB Couture’s Anger and Savina’s Fantasy Files. When it was dry I applied another layer of topcoat.

The colours reminded me of a sweater of mine that I really love. I call it my cookie monster sweater :D
Here’s my final mani and the sleeve of my sweater (taken with flash):

The mandatory low light picture:

The pretties:

I love this, no less.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Finish: Shimmer
Overall impression: Fantastic colour, great quality, yes please to this polish

Red/black/white Watermarble

Red/black/white Watermarble
Morgan Taylor, Savina, Herôme and El Corazón

I’m trying to learn all the secrets of water marbling. Today I wanted to make a mani that was red, white and black. Here’s how that ended out:

The polishes I used:
Red: Morgan Taylor’s Wonder Woman
White: Savina’s Fantasy Files
Black: Herôme’s Montenegro
Holo glitter topper: El Corazón’s 421h/25 Large Hologram

Here they are:

 What I learned today:

  • My black was too thick! It refused to spread. I have thinned it now.
  • Red doesn’t turn out red on the nails. I’ve got a white base underneath it, and it turned out pink. I will try with other reds – perhaps a red crème is better than a red shimmer.
  • El Corazón’s topper pulls on the design. Note to self: Next time use a topcoat before you add the holo goodness.
  • Be patient. If the pattern doesn’t look quite right in the glass, it won’t look quite right on the nails either.
  • Have lots of cotton buds available, along with acetone and old newspapers. It’s a messy affair!

Green Watermarble

Green Watermarble
Borghese, Savina, Essence and Out the Door

Do you know the feeling when there’s something you’ve been trying to get to work for a long time, and after many attempt it suddenly just works? That’s me and water marbling! I’m still buzzing over the fact that it actually works, yay!

So I have decided that now that I know how to do it, I’m definitely going to do it once in a while.

Here’s today’s green water marble:

I used three different polishes to marble with:
Lime green: Borghese’s Fantastico Lime
Blue: Essence’s Via Airmail
White: Savina’s Fantasy Files

It’s topped with Out the Door’s Northern Lights, which made it all come really well together.

Here are the polishes.

Today’s attempt wasn’t easy. The Essence acted like a total diva and refused to spread out on the water! Then I found out that the order of the polishes matters too, how weird is that! But anyway, I’m pleased that I could even get it to work with difficult polishes.

I must admit that I had expected the blue to show itself more, but hey, I must admit that I quite liked the result – and my boyfriend loved the colour scheme :D

Zoya/Sephora X/Savina watermarble

Zoya/Sephora X/Savina watermarble
- it finally worked!!

Let me tell you right away: I’m totally excited! Why? Because I finally made a watermarble that actually worked! Wow, right? I must admit that I considering just giving up; I just couldn’t crack the code, no way Pedro. Then a girl in a Danish Facebook group mentioned that she got her best results when she used a cola can as the container for it. It never occurred to me that the container actually made a difference. Until now I only tried in a glass, but today I tried in a regular plastic cup, the ones for coffee and stuff :D

And it worked!! *bounces around happily*

Take a look:

I can’t express how thrilled I am!

The polishes I used:
Purple: Sephora X “Pedal to the Metal”
Green: Zoya “Giovanna”
White: Savina “Fantasy Files”

Here are the pretties I used:

I had the usual trouble with clean up even though I taped my nails before dunking them into the water. Oh well. You can’t win them all, can you!

Now that I finally cracked the code I shall try with more colour combos!

KBShimmer ~ Up and Cunning

KBShimmer ~ Up and Cunning
Teal linear holo

Up and Cunning is from the Autumn 2014 collection. I knew it had to be mine from the first moment I laid eyes on it. I was so happy when it finally arrived in the mail!

The formula is great, the polish just glides on and covers in two easy coats. The drying time between coats is good. And seriously – this polish is gorgeous, I love everything about it!! I’d say that KBShimmer should make more holos – I’d definitely buy them!

Take a look at two coats and no topcoat:

Is that a me-colour or what? I’d say it is!

I decided to make some dots on it. I made white dots with Savina’s French White and purple dots with KBShimmer’s Quick and Flirty. I only made dots on the middle of each nail and made sure that the dots were various sizes. I applied a layer of topcoat when I was happy with the dots, and here’s my final mani:

Mmm… I don’t ever want to take this off :D

Here’s a picture taken in low lights. I still love the colours!

The pretties lined up:

I love dotticures and this one is no exception. It’s so cool that it’s possible to create so pretty manis just by adding dots.

Do you like this as much I as do?

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Linear holo
Overall impression: I love everything about this polish. The quality, the colour, the rainbows…

Lilypad Lacquer ~ Frogs Alive

Lilypad Lacquer ~ Frogs Alive
Acid green strong linear holo

It’s been a while since I featured a Lilypad Lacquer on my blog, so it’s that time again. It’s actually also been a while since I purchased any of them. Frogs Alive is my latest buy and today – right here, right now - it’s time for it to flash its rainbows!

Application was easy because the formula is good. It takes two coats to make this look its best and the drying time is good.

No sun available that day, so here’s two coats and no topcoat, taken with flash:

The rainbows are pretty kerrazy in Frogs Alive....
And so is the colour.

I ♥ rainbows!

Here is a low light picture:

I didn’t quite know what to do with this so I ended up with dots – again :D
I made three white dots on each nail and when that was dry I made a green glitter dot on each of the white dots.
My white is a Savina called Fantasy Files, and the green glitter is from McFresh and is called Lady Scales. I applied a layer of topcoat when the dots were dry. Here’s my final mani:

A last shot:

I couldn’t quite decide if I liked this or not. I am not sure why… perhaps it’s because the green is a little bit outside my comfort zone. Or maybe I should have added a darker colour too, that might have helped.

Do you like it?

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Durability: Good
Removal: No problems
Overall impression: Crazy colour with crazy rainbows.
