David Gruby (1810–98) was a Hungarian doctor noted for his work on microbiology and mycology. He lived in Paris from 1840 and among his patients and friends were Balzac, Chopin, Alexandre Dumas père and fils, van Gogh, Heinrich Heine, and George Sand. He published a paper in Latin on microscopy (1840), and another on man and the machine (1866).
