Doll-A-Day 2023 #340: Grand Ole Opry Country Rose Barbie

Number 340 in this year's Doll-A-Day is not mine. I mean, I own her, but it was by accident, not by choice. And I have given her to Emma, who really wanted her. She's Grand Ole Opry Country Rose Barbie.

You have to say 'Country Rose' too, because there is another Grand Ole Opry Barbie. (She's wearing a long blue dress.)

This one is from 1997.

She has the Superstar Barbie face, and rooted eyelashes.

As a Country Music star, she has her guitar.

And a rather old fashioned country music outfit, more like the days when it was called 'country and Western' music.

  It has lots of embroidery...

...a big belt buckle...

...and fringe on the skirt.

Of course, she also has a cowboy hat.

And cowboy boots.

I think a lot of people these days don't know that The Grand Ole Opry really means The Grand Old Opera. The name comes from the local pronunciation. Wikipedia explains it this way:

"The phrase "Grand Ole Opry" was first uttered on radio on December 10, 1927.[10] At the time, the NBC Red Network's Music Appreciation Hour, a program with classical music and selections from grand opera, was followed by Hay's Barn Dance. That evening, as he was introducing DeFord Bailey, the show's first performer of the night, George Hay said the following words: For the past hour, we have been listening to music largely from Grand Opera, but from now on, we will present 'The Grand Ole Opry'."

See you tomorrow for another doll.
