CANADA ~ The Johnston Canyon Waterfalls - Banff National Park - UNESCO ~

... Pretty views of a breathtaking natural attraction in Banff National Park... these waterfalls are one of the many found within the scenic Johnston Canyon itself... it is a wonderful example of centuries-old rock formations... Johnston Canyon is an extremely popular and scenic trail which takes one along the waterfalls, lime stone rock tunnels, caves, steep canyons and blue-green pools at the end of the hike... a must-visit attraction and one of the busiest in the Canadian Rockies... Thanks a lot Glenn!✿◕ ‿ ◕✿ and this time no pen cancel but great *clear* postmarks!👍

The Johnston Canyon Waterfalls comprise a Lower Falls and Upper Falls as well as few more smaller ones.

Johnston Canyon was caused by erosion of limestone rock as Johnston Creek, a tributary of Bow River, empties into the Bow River. Over thousands of years, the erosion has formed gorges and waterfalls.

Banff National Park is Canada‘s oldest national park, established in 1885 in the Rocky Mountains and is the third-oldest national park in the world. Today, Banff National Park is 6,641km2 in area, the second largest of Canada’s mountain parks behind Jasper National Park.

In 1984, Banff was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

ITALY ~ Marmore Falls - Terni - Umbria ~

... Wonderful view of an amazing mighty "manmade" waterfall... the highest of its kind in Europe.... although the waterfalls are a human construction, it is a great demonstration of the forces of nature.... the 165 metre high waterfall cascades over three sections, with the first drop at 83 metres being the highest... built by the Romans more than 2000 years ago😲... there are views of the cascade at various vantage points... today the water flow is controlled by a hydroelectric dam and is only in full flow for a few hours at a time to satisfy the needs of tourists and the power company... at night-time, the show is even more breath-taking, since the waterfall is illuminated by a LED system which makes it a truly unique experience... it is also an ideal place for water sports like rafting and kayaking... Thanks so much Gian Luca and Raffaella for 5 fantastic postcards!!¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The waterfalls were created in 3rd century BC on the orders of Curio Dentato. The valley was a swamp and stagnant, to fix the problem Dentato created a canal called Cava Curiana, this had the water from the River Velino cascade over the cliff into the River Nera below.

The waterfalls were altered and restored with canals for better water flow between the 15th and 18thC with the current look being created in the 18thC.

The Marmore Falls take their name from the calcium carbonate salts present in the rocks, which make them very similar to marble.

Kauai is an island in the mid-Pacific, part of the Hawaiian archipelago and is Hawaii’s fourth largest island.

It's nicknamed "the Garden Isle" thanks to the tropical rainforest covering much of its surface. The dramatic cliffs and pinnacles of its Na Pali Coast have served as backdrop for major Hollywood films (Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, George of the Jungle..) while 10-mile-long Waimea Canyon and the Nounou Trails traversing the Sleeping Giant ridge are hiking destinations.

SRI LANKA ~Ravana Waterfall - Ella~

...A wonderful natural structure in a stunning setting...one of the most beautiful and popular waterfalls (the island has an impressive list of more than 50 waterfalls over 33ft in height)...Thanks a lot Ravindra!!

This waterfall measures approximately 25 m (82 ft) in height and cascades from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop. During the local wet season, the waterfall turns into what is said to resemble an areca flower with withering petals. But this is not the case in the dry season, where the flow of water reduces dramatically.

The falls form part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary and is situated in Badulla district near the Ella-Wellawaya road.

According to legend, it is said that King Ravana (who was the king of Sri Lanka at the time) had kidnapped princess Sitha, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella (ravana falls)
