MALAWI ~ Nyala Antelope - Lengwe National Park ~

... Great new African National Park postcard💚... home of the very beautiful and shy Nyala antelope... the original reserve here was set aside to protect the most northerly surviving population of these species... estimated at more than 2000 individuals... the park is now a stronghold of this rare mammal... this little-visited national park although is lacking most of the big safari animals but the park has wonderful scenery... the waterholes are great places to spend some time bird watching with more than 330 species recorded and are a focal point for wildlife in the Dry season... Thanks a lot Emmanuel!ヽ(ヅ)ノ

Lengwe National Park located on the border with Mozambique. It was first set aside as a game reserve in 1928. It was subsequently designated a national park in 1970 and expanded to its current size of 887 km² in 1975.

Male and female Nyala are significantly different in their appearance to the point that some people identify them as different species. Males are significantly larger and are covered with charcoal grey fur with the lower legs, ears and foreheads being tan, they also have spiraling horns  A female Nyala looks very much like a deer. She does not have horns and has a reddish-brown coat, at least 10 white, vertical stripes along her sides, and a crest of dark hair that runs all the way down her back.

MALAWI ~ The Warm Heart of Africa ~

... Beautiful postcard coming from Malawi known as 💛"The Warm Heart of Africa"💛... because of the kindness of its people... this small landlocked country is one of the safest places in Africa... and one of the best-kept secrets... tourism mostly revolves around its namesake lake and its beaches... but the country has the potential to become a top safari destination like its neighboring countries... it was recently crowned as one of Lonely Planet's Best in Travel Top Countries for 2022👍... it is densely populated, with many of its people living below the poverty line...Thanks Isabelle! (✿◠‿◠)

Malawi is a country in Southeastern Africa, neighbored by Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania and Lake Victoria. It achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1964.

Malawi's capital and largest city is Lilongwe.

An area of some 118,000 square kilometres (one fifth is Lake Malawi) makes Malawi one of the smallest countries in this region of Africa.

The name Malawi comes from the Maravi, an old name of the Nyanja people that inhabit the area.

MALAWI ~ Elephants - Liwonde National Park ~

... A fantastic new African National Park for my collection💚... one of the most beautiful parks in the country... this National Park offers one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa... the park is known for elephant viewing and conservation efforts... you will have the opportunity to spot a lot of elephants... the elephant population has grown so much in the past years that it has become hard for them to survive, this is why some of them have been transported to other Wildlife Reserves, for what was “the biggest elephant translocation in Malawi”... that the photo on this postcard was taken by the sender itself at Mvuu camp makes it even more special👍... to see these "gentle giants of the jungle" in their natural habitat must have been amazing🐘... Liwonde National Park is the ideal place to enjoy a safari, holiday or expedition... Thanks a million Theresa!! (✿ ♥‿♥)

Liwonde National Park was founded in 1973 and is 548km2.  The park is situated on the left bank of the Shire River, south of Lake Malawi and near the Mozambique border. The park was named after Chief Liwonde who had championed its protection, harbours very diverse landscapes.

Mvuu Camp and Mvuu Wilderness Lodge are both situated on the banks of the Shire River in Liwonde National Park.

Liwonde incorporates the huge, scenic Shire River as well as quiet backwaters and lagoons, marshes, open savannah country, woodland and hills in the interior of the park. As a result of the wide variety of habitats, there is a great diversity of plant, animal and bird life present. Elephant, Sable and Black Rhino are the main game attractions.
