.. Beautiful and impressive frescoes scenes all over the walls and ceiling from the Church... showing the life of the Virgin Mary... there are thirteen scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary painted in the west arch and another two on the west wall... this makes it the most elaborate “life cycle” of the Virgin Mary extant in Cyprus... they have simple straight lines and shiny earth colours... the frescoes are also of great importance because they cover a large part of the history of Cyprus...Thank you Andrene!! ♥(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)
This church is at the southern end of the village of Pelendri. It is a one-aisled type church with a dome. The church was destroyed and the only one rescued was the arch, which was incorporated into a new church of the same type in the 14thC. In the middle of the 14thC, the northern chapel was added to the east with a straight wall instead of an arch, and in the 16thC the southern chapel, which has an arch, was added.
There are frescoes from the 12thC until the 16thC. The main part of the temple was decorated with frescoes of the 14thC, from at least three painters. The palaeological style was used by the first painter, the second painter was more linear and stylised and the latter followed the Byzantine technique.
In 1985 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List which included nine other painted Byzantine churches of the Troodos range.

CYPRUS ~ The Mosaics of Paphos - UNESCO ~
... Wonderful views of some of the most beautiful and best preserved floor murals in the Eastern Mediterranean... giving a valuable insight of Greco-Romans daily life as well as the legends of gods, goddesses, and heroes... the mosaics were discovered in 1962, after a farmer ploughing his field accidentally unearthed one of them... they are part of a larger archaeological site that includes a theatre and a ruined fortress... a gem for archeology and history lovers... Thanks a lot Bori!!【ツ】
The Pahos Mosaics are situated just near the Pahos Harbour within the Paphos Archaeological Park and they are dating from the third to fifth centuray A.D. Paphos is located on the southwest coast of Cyprus.
Five houses with large sections of mosaics with varying levels of damage can be seen at Paphos. The mansions are named after the recurring theme found in the mosaics inside: the House of Dionysus, the House of Theseus, the House of Aion, the House of Orpheus, and the House of The Four Seasons.
The Archaeological Park of Kato Pafos has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list since 1980.

CYPRUS ~ Pafos-Saranta Kolones - UNESCO~
... Great archaeological site... Pafos is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Cyprus, known as the "land of love" and the birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodite....Thanks a lot Iliyana!
Pafos is a coastal city in the southwest of Cyprus, which has been, during certain times in antiquity, the capital of Cyprus, has a history which goes back literally thousands of years. Pafos is famous for its remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs of exceptional architectural and historic value.
Saranta Kolones is a ruined medieval fortress inside the Pafos Archaeological Park. It takes its name from the large number of granite columns that were found on the site and probably once formed part of the ancient agora. The Byzantine castle is believed to have been built at the end of the 7th century AD to protect the port and the city of Nea Pafos from Arab raids and later remodeled by the Lusignans.
