MONTENEGRO ~ Our Lady of the Rocks & St. George islands ~

...Lovely view of two small islands...Thanks a million Jobbo for thinking of me during your travels and luckily for me you did found a postoffice ✌(◕‿-)✌!!

Our Lady of the Rocks ( Gospa od Škrpjela ) is one of the two islets off the coast of Perast in Bay of Kotor, Montenegro (the other being Sveti Đorđe Island).

It is an artificial island created by bulwark of rocks and by sinking old and seized ships loaded with rocks. The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rocks  is the largest building on the islet; it has a museum attached.

St George (Sveti Dorde) is a natural islet. It's ringed by a dozen elegant cypress trees and crowned by the Monastery of St. George, dating back to the 12th century and still inhabited by monks.

In the 18th century the island became a favorite burial place for local sea captains, whose crypts remain today. The island is closed to the public.

Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro. It is located in a secluded part of the Gulf of Kotor.
The town is of rich cultural tradition, and one of the best preserved medieval urban areas of this part of the Mediterranean that made it a UNESCO site.

A large number of the monuments (including four Romanesque churches and the town walls) were seriously damaged by the 1979 earthquake but the town has been restored, largely with UNESCO help.

Montenegro is located in Southeastern Europe in the south of the Adriatic sea.

MONTENEGRO ~Podgorica~

My second card from Montenegro arrived today, a really, really large card. I think almost an A5 size.... Another nice one from Ukraine. Thanks Alex for all the interesting information about the view and the beautiful stamps. And from a neighbouring country, Germany a wonderful lighthouse!!

The Millennium Bridge is a is a cable-stayed bridge that spans Morača River, in Podgorica, Montenegro.Built in 2005 it quickly became one of the city's most prominent landmarks.
The bridge is 140 m long, and the pylon soars 57 m above the roadbed. Twelve cables support the roadway deck, while twenty four more are attached to the counterweights, creating an imposing image.
