My initial snowman sketch [above] which I altered [below] before doing the embroidery shown in my last post [Winter Wonderland]

Winter Wonderland

I designed this picture for the Hand Embroidery Network exhibition - Winter Wonderland. I was to register by a certain date & then forward the pictures at a later date, but as I didn't think I would get it done in time, I didn't register. As it happened, the date to send entries was extended, so I would have got it done in time after all. Never mind, I will put it in the 'Layers' exhibition.
Check out the other entries at HEN, there are some really good ones.

Picture  - Paint, running stitch, french knots.
The window - painted heavyweight vilene, plastic, hand stitching.
Deep frame - the window is next to the glass & the snowscene at the back to give the effect of space, looking through a window.

I like the bird

Spider & Fish Sketch

a page from a sketch book - the spider was drawn with pencil & didn't show up very well so I altered it a little and the colours you see underneath are from the other side of the page, quite a nice effect I think.

Needle Weaving ATC

The needle weaving was an old sample which I decided to make into an ATC. It is now sandwiched between 2 clear plastic sheets, held together with brads. The picture above shows both sides.

Rabbits on the loose in London

Icicles

Well it's snowing again here so I thought I would post these photos from the last freeze. I confess they are not my photos, my friend Helen took them in her garden. I love the way the icicles are flowing down the vine branches.

S is for

I started this some time ago, I think I was going to put lots of things beginning with S on it, but I've decided to keep it simple.

Background Paper

I used two rolling stamps to decorate this paper. One was made from spongy pipe insulation [the stuff to keep your pipes from freezing - don't take it off your pipes at this time of year tho!] It's really easy to cut with a craft knife and the other was made from lace wrapped round a bottle. The background was painted with a multi coloured wash of thin paint - if you want thicker paint do the background first.
Full details of my rolling stamps can be read in the Sept/Oct 2009 issue of Cloth Paper Scissors

Sketch Book Doodle

There are not many flowers in bloom at the moment so I thought I would post a sketch of one

Tiger - Book Cover

Another older one from C&G days. It's an A3 sample file which has been covered in recycled velvet. The tiger, also velvet was bleached to get the markings [painted on with a nylon brush], then appliqued [& stuffed lightly] onto the backing. The grasses are a separate piece of fabric which has been machine embroidered

Altered Flower Book

I started an 'altered' book last year, although I have not done much in it yet. It is a flower book & I thought I would alter it with more flower and garden related things. I have painted quite a few of the pages with dye solution  as in the picture above, which I like without doing anything else to it [although I probably will add other things]. To do  - Apply the dye, more at the edges, then cover with cling film, pull off when dry. The page below has an added butterfly, but I've added more to the page since I scanned it.

The original page looked similar to the picture below.
