Phil Simms - World's Greatest Knifethrower!! (Elementary S03E03 GIF Set)

Yesterday Nov 13th Thursday, the 3rd Episode of the 3rd Season of CBS-TV's "Elementary" aired. The episode was titled:   "Just a Regular Irregular."

Elementary is an updated version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous creation, Sherlock Holmes. It is set in modern day New York City. Jonny Lee Miller is fabulous as Sherlock and Lucy Liu plays Dr. Joan Watson, an updated version of Dr. John Watson.

Football's New York Giants Phil Simms appears as himself. Sherlock is consulting him on an old circus case involving knifethrowing. Holmes to Watson said of Simms, "Phillip here is arguably the greatest knifethrower in the world." Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson thinks Jonny Lee Miller's Holmes is joking. Holmes asked "Phillip" to demonstrate.

Did Phil Simms really throw those knives? Is he really the World's Greatest Knifethrower? You decide :)

Enjoy this set of 8 GIFs!

The scene spliced up

Sherlock:  "Phillip. Head and heart."

EDIT Nov 15, 2014:

The answer to the question of "Did Phil Simms really throw those knives?" was answered over Twitter by the Staff Writers of Elementary:

@ELEMENTARYStaff: @BakerStreetPod @Elementary_CBS Those were real knives thrown by Phil Simms. 2nd half of the shot, where the knives hit, pro knife thrower

Telescopic Baton on TV: Lucy Liu in Elementary S02E01

I'm starting another project. Making animated GIF's of the Telescopic Baton in TV and Movies, much like one of my other projects, namely, making animated GIF's of the Balisong in Movies and TV.

Leading off this series is Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson in the CBS TV series, Elementary. Elementary is an updated telling of the great detective, Sherlock Holmes, bringing him into modern times and setting him in New York City. Partnered with a female Dr. Watson, the duo help NYPD solve crimes. The first episode of the second season broadcasted on this past Thursday, Sep. 26, 2013. It featured Liu's Dr. Watson stopping a Bad Guy running away from Sherlock Holmes in Washington Square Park.

Liu has mentioned she has had Filipino Martial Arts training in this LA Times magazine interview:

I’ve heard that you train regularly in martial arts.
I studied kali-eskrima-silat [Filipino sword and stick fighting] when I was young. I thought it was really beautiful, and I wanted a hobby, so I started doing that. It came in handy for a couple of projects, but people make it out like I’m some expert, and I’m not. I studied for some films, but if somebody came up and tried to judo chop me, they could probably get the best of me.

Liu has also used the baton in her movie with Antonio Banderas, Ballistic:  Ecks vs Sever. At some point in the near future, I will be making animated GIF's from that movie.

Another 2 movies with Baton usage that comes to mind are Clint Eastwood's In the Line of Fire and Jennifer Lopez with George Clooney in Out of Sight. If you know of more, please let me know.

Enjoy Lucy Liu in action with a Telescopic Baton!

Please check out another animated GIF set I made of Lucy Liu with not one but two telescopic batons!

REVIEW: My review of "The Man with the Iron Fists (2012)"

The RZA (of the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan) starred and co-wrote the script. This was also his directorial debut.

Here's the trailer:

I wanted to like it. I knew it was homage to Oldschool Shaw Brothers films. Did I say that I really wanted to like it? Well I didn't.

Something or a few things were missing. I can't put my finger on it but the ingredients for an epic oldschool-styled movie were there:

  • Oldschool legends Chen Kuan-tai and Bryan Leung Ka Yan in cameos
  • Rotties Lucy Liu and Jaime Chung
  • Characters/names homage to The Kid with the Golden Arms
  • Exotic weapons
  • Cung Le was in it too

Perhaps this movie had TOO much things going on. By that I mean, it had too many elements as homage to the oldschool movies. If a few elements were used, it may have worked. Almost all the homage elements were used. As a whole, the movie didn't quite work for me.

Pass on this if you haven't seen it yet.
