GIF of Vicious Elbow KO from Muay Thai fight

Of the combat sports, one of the most brutal is undoubtedly Muay Thai. It's known as the Art of Eight Limbs:  2 Legs, 2 Knees, 2 Fists AND 2 Elbows. One of the favored positions for Muay Thai fighters is the Clinch where Takedowns, Knees and Elbows can be effected.

I saw a video on Facebook and forgot which page/group/friend it was from. I don't know the fighters. I took the liberty of making 6 GIFs from the video which featured a vicious Elbow Knockout from the Clinch.

If you know the fighters/fight, please let me know. It is deeply appreciated!

WARNING! Not for the faint of heart!

Enjoy!

1 all-in-one GIF of realtime, slomo, and slomo side view

The above GIF split into 3 separate:
1 realtime, 1 slomo, 1 slomo side view

Made an extra 2 super slomo GIF's

Was that a vicious Elbow KO or what?

The Vanishing Flame: Born Warriors (Myanmar/Burma) Promo Trailer and Outtakes 1-5

Please click for larger pic

I've been looking forward to Vincent Giordano's The Vanishing Flame project coming to fruition. Readers of this site should know of The Vanishing Flame project but for those that don't know: The Vanishing Flame is a project to document the dying bareknuckle boxing arts of Southeast Asia. For years, Vincent Giordano has been travelling to SE Asia searching out the old Masters and documenting the various styles.

Great news! The research on the Burmese bareknuckle style known as Lethwei is ready! Two DVD's will be released soon and named "Born Warriors". There are outtakes from the DVDs that Vincent Giordano has been kind enough to share. Previously he has shared some outtakes from his previous project, The Physical Body, which documented Kushti (Indian wrestling).

Enjoy the promo trailer as well as 5 outtakes which offer a glimpse into the various aspects of Lethwei! Can't wait for the DVD's!!

Born Warriors - Promo Trailer

This is the first trailer for the forthcoming documentary, Born Warriors, which describes the world of Burmese Lethwei, or bare-knuckle fighting. The Lethwei fighters are the last of the bare-knuckle fighters in Southeast Asia who have maintained this ancient tradition in spite of near-constant turbulence and upheaval that has sometimes threatened the sport's very survival.

The documentary has two parts. The first details Lethwei before Burma's era of Democratic reform. The second focuses on how the sport is again evolving as it struggles with growth and the fierce competition to control and dominate it.

Born Warriors: Outtakes Part One

In Part One of our outtakes series, Ali, a former aspiring Lethwei middleweight contender, trains out of his own backyard in Thaton under the tutelage of his father. Ali's preparations for a upcoming bout are tainted by his father's belief that someone has cast a black magic spell on Ali, resulting in a lack of energy. It proves to be a omen when he loses by knockout to then reigning champ Lone Chaw in a major fight in Yangon.

Here Ali takes us through an overview of his workout day and the exercises and preparation he goes through to prepare for each bout.

Born Warriors: Outtakes Part Two

In Part Two of our outtakes series, we take a further look at Lethwei's training routines visiting a once popular camp in Mandalay. Poverty and a scarcity of tournaments typically force Lethwei fighters to train anywhere they can - from spartan backyards to temple grounds. Some Burmese Lethwei camps manage to cobble together a reasonable amount of equipment, but the resources of most fall far below the level of the poorest and most basic Muay Thai camps in Thailand. The situation is slowly changing, but this glimpse from the past shows how, even in the worst conditions, fighters can train hard and gain advantage in the ring.

Born Warriors: Outtakes Part Three

In Part Three of our outtakes series, we look at the various warm-ups used in the many different Lethwei camps and training classes. Some camps have long, organized routines. Others leave it up to each individual to get his or her body ready for training. Here we look at one of the organized group routines used in Saya U Bo Sein's Lethwei class in 2005.

In the full-release DVD, we'll focus on this topic in the Training and Training Methods section.

Born Warriors: Outtakes Part Four

In Part Four, we focus on Lethwei Yei, a distinct Burmese display of respect, bravery and courage that serves as a forceful challenge to his or her opponent. The dynamic Yei differs from the boxing dances used in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. It is unique.

Born Warriors: Outtakes Part Five

In 2003, a Burmese video company recording the major Lethwei fights in Yangon assembled some of the knockouts from the various shows they had filmed and put them on a VHS tape for me. The quality of the video production and the editing were both poor. Still, the video is a record of the time and is entertaining to watch. Here we present the first 12 minutes of the final 35-minute piece along with some newer additional footage.

IN MEMORY OF: Ramon Dekkers (September 4, 1969 – February 27, 2013)

Muay Thai/Kickboxing great Ramon Dekkers passed away today. He was an 8-time Muay Thai World Champion and held a record of 186-33-2 with 95 KO’s. He was one of the non-Thais to go into Thailand and win to become a champion.

He died at the age of 43, after reportedly feeling light headed while training on his bike, in Breda, The Netherlands.

RIP Champ

A serious misfortune has struck the international Kickboxing and Muay Thai community as reports have surfaced that legendary Dutch striker Ramon "Diamond" Dekkers has passed away today at the young age of 43. Reports are coming out of his home town of Breda today that Dekkers was riding his bike when he collapsed in a tunnel after feeling light-headed. A few bystanders attempted to assist him before emergency services arrived and attempted to revive him to no avail.

Dekkers is a former 8-time world champion and one of the first Dutch Kickboxers to really make an impact in Thailand. He was instrumental in helping the sport of Kickboxing to evolve to what it is today and will always be remembered for his accomplishments in and out of the ring.

MMA: Hematoma Fight Club - Blue Shirt Requirements by Joe Silvia

Introduction

Blue Shirt is where you get your feet wet, spend a lot of time re-learning to use your body, develop mental and phyiscal attributes, learn to navigate around the MMA universe, get comfortable with getting hit, slammed and twisted. There is so much material that at times it may seem overwhelming and MMA in the beginning may seem very foreign.

You are also learning how to have a unique relationship with another person whereby you support them and they have your back. When they are down, your will uplift them, when they have doubts, you will encourage them, when they have good days and moments you will proudly join them. They will do the SAME for you. This relationship is a unique one and for many completely new.

Lastly, YOU are developing the atmosphere in the gym with every action, word, and decision you make. The more positive, encouraging, and generous you are the faster your training partner will progress. The faster he progresses the faster YOU progress. You will improve ONLY by improving him. That is REAL.

10. Shows stance & motion in all 5 areas.
11. Shows he/she can Cant and Tilt with every Tie-Up.
12. Can dust his partner off.
13. Can use his conditioning as a weapon.

FEG's Sadaharu Tanikawa, K-1 Event Producer, announced today that an official K-1 Channel has been created on YouTube, the video sharing site with over 2 billion users.

*Now the world can enjoy K-1!

Built on the motto "From Japan to the World", the world's largest martial arts extravaganza "K-1" is now in its 16th year. Starting with a modest number of domestic fans back in 1993, K-1 events now boasts viewership in 135 countries. FEG, producers of the events, now wish to reach a broader audience and let them get know more about K-1 past and present. The first big step is opening the YouTube K-1 Channel (YouTube - Kanaal van K1). 3. Press Conference Footage = See the fighters face to face, sometimes for the first time, at the official press conferences

4. Post-fight Interviews = The elation of the winners, the disappointment of the winners, all captured in the post-fight interviews.

Bonus material:

2. K-1's official site will also carry the videos with extra content that will be constantly updated.

In Japan, K-1 is the first to enter into such a ground-breaking partnership with YouTube and the YouTube K-1 Channel, with archived K-1 events, interviews, press conferences, and also never-before-seen official content such as looks into the fighters lives, should give martial arts fans what they've always wanted - full access to the greatest martial arts show on Earth.
