Notes:

This came as 2 raw files which I placed into MAGIX to make track cuts and other edits. A tape flip right after track 15 ends led to a small part at the start of track 16 being missing, so I made a 9 second patch to make the intro complete, resulting in a better segue than a abrupt flip. There was also a blank space due to a tape stop on the encore between tracks 17 + 18. I made that part seamless as opposed to adding fades. The bands first tour in Amsterdam yields this amazing peek in their history, recorded directly from the sound desk onto Hans's tape recorder. This is an awesome recording when you consider the date...

Superb audience master recording given a fresh transfer. This is XTC's first and only performance in The Big Easy and by all accounts it was a gem of a show. Also check out opener, RZA, transferred for the very first time from the same tapes.

notes
I borrowed the tape from a Little Express enthusiast in the area in exchange for a copy of the dub I've uploaded here. The sound is good, a B+ I'd say. The video has been through a few generations. There's smearing and saturation, there's places where it has that flat look and the distance shots lack detail, however I find it quite watchable. I give it a C+ to a B, depending on the lighting at any given moment. As usual, if anyone has something better, I'd sure love a copy. Cover included.

'XTC Live at "The Marconi Club" Sydney, Australia July 20th, 1979
The First show of XTC's first Australian\Japaneese tour.
Broadcast Live on 2JJ Radio which was the local FM station in Sydney at that time. This station has now become JJJ, a nationwide FM station that services all of Australia.

The set list here is very indicative of the order and manner in which the tunes were played on the first Australian and Japaneese Tours. No Encores were played during this show probably due to time constraints. The encores on this tour normally consisted of some combination of these songs; Dance band, Statue Of Liberty, Into The Atom Age, Hang On To The Night and Neon Shuffle'

Notes
- Huge thanks to Hans Devente, who's finally finished transferring and sharing ALL of his XTC tapes. Hans taped a load of these tapes himself, and a large portion of them are audience captures. Thanks to Hans, no longer is XTC of the 70s nor Barry Andrews a rarity! Unfortunately, shortly after transferring the Chelmsford Odeon and Strans Lyceum tapes, his Nakamichi Dragon bit the dust. According to him it was far more than simple electrical failure, and it was given a seaman's burial in the waterway behind his house. Being the sport he is, he went out and got a replacement deck to finish up not only these but all the other tapes he has. The deck in question is a Sony TC-WR820, a two head deck and not as great as the Dragon, but certainly it works!

Notes
- Another uncirculated show from Hans Devente! This one a mid-Drums & Wires tour show.

- Considering how incredibly tight and clean the audio is, I'd wager this is more
likely a board feed rather than an FM or pre-FM source. It simply isn't radio friendly;
the bass isn't 'in your face' enough, the mids are slightly recessed, the crowd isn't
prominent enough between songs, and the amplitude isn't very high.

- No matter, like I said, the sound is very tight and clean. This is also the only known
Canadian XTC source besides the 1979-01-10 show at the Edge in Toronto.

- Considering how tight and bass light this is, I'm going to guess that this venue
is/was a rather boomy one.

- Oh, and Dave had his balls chopped off.

recorded as it happened on WBCN radio. it's an inspired show (I'm sure selling out 2 shows this night pleased them) Boston is an XTC appreciating town. the late show actually started after midnight so it was techically early AM of Jan 30, thus previously posted under that date, but it was scheduled for the night of the 29th. the reel has not been played alot and most of it still sounds pretty good, although there are a few parts where there are some tape problems, especially in real by reel. most of the rest sounds pretty clear.

Notes:
I checked around on the web but could find no trace of these demos, it really seems they never made the rounds before. All I could find were some inferior quality versions of two of the Andy Partridge solo tracks on youtube. But as I am not very knowledgeable at all when it comes to XTC I may be completely wrong :-)

Anyway, the sound quality is excellent with only little hiss considering the age of the tape. Madtaper Hans really must have kept his cassettes under very good conditions.

I considered moving the three Andy Partridge solo tracks to the end as they clearly are not part of the same session; but as you can easily move them around as you wish yourself I decided to keep the track order as it was on madtapers cassette. Personally I'll certainly put them at the end whenever I listen to these absolutely fabulous demos.

1-13 are from a mid/late 1990s edited rebroadcast of the show, quality is near-mint. The last two songs are from an older dub of the show, the quality there is very rough. It's not unwatchable though and hopefully the quality of the rest of the show makes up for it.
