I got this concert directly from the taper about 18 years ago. I was not there but was assured by the taper that this tape contains the whole performance. Since I wasn't at the show, I don't have any amusing or amazing stories to tell, so I'll give you a brief rundown of the recording, good points and bad.

First, the good points:
1) As mentioned above, this recording is complete.
2) There is virtually NO talking, shrieking, whistling or any other audience bullshit on this recording. The taper was surrounded by very polite, quiet, respectful audience members who were there for the music and not to hear themselves talk.
3) There is no distortion present. There are no speed problems or any other serious faults to prevent you from enjoying this show.
4) This is a very clear recording. The vocals & instruments come through very clearly and distinctly. I think that the taper was fairly close to the stage when making this recording.

Second, the bad (not very bad at all) points:
1) There is a little bit of hiss. Not bad, but you'll hear it from time to time.
2) This is probably the worst point about the recording: the right channel's strength is variable. The right channel is weak for 90% of And You And I and then comes back strongly. This occurs on other songs as well. I have no idea what was going on but I suspect that there was a short or a loose connection somewhere in the mic circuitry. The right channel never vanishes totally but it is weak in several songs. This is basically why I downgraded it to 8.5. When both channels are pumping, it's a 9 to 9.5 solidly. Fixing this problem is beyond my  capabilities. Perhaps some audio wizard out in Dime land can fix this for us all. If anyone is interested in doing so, you have my complete and utter permission to knock yourself(ves) out. I could've used a splitter to record the left channel only but didn't want to create a mono recording, so I left the problem alone. If you can help, please do!!! (How I wish that the taper would've used something like a Sony or Aiwa with an external stereo tie mic instead of a Radio Shack setup but what can you do ?????).

So there you have it. This is the raw recording that I've had lo these many years. I changed NOTHING about this recording except to track it and to remove overly-long stretches of applause and screaming between songs. No music is missing. This show fits on 2 80 min. CDs. CD 1 = Tracks 1 - 14. CD 2 = Tracks 15 - 29. The song titles become more understandable if you have a copy of the legit ABWH tape lying  around so you can follow along with that setlist. That's about all that I can think of to say, so let's wrap this up.

This show was still early in the tour (the fourth show), and finds the band experimenting with setlist and sound effects. This may be the only show with the Firebird Suite, which drops right into the opening jam of Close To the Edge.

They were also experimenting with quadrophonic sound, with stacks of speakers on the lawn handling those effects like at old-style "azimuth coordinator" Floyd shows.

We moved to the lawn for the second set to better capture the quad effects, and found a nice spot near one of the speaker stacks. During Themes especially you can hear the sound moving in and out of the lawn speakers.

11 Siberian Khatru (Jon Anderson/Steve Howe/Rick Wakeman)

My jaw dropped when I found this torrent, back in late 2007: Steve, then a sixty-year-old musician, had decided to adventure himself into completely different music.

Steve had defined his jazz trio, that year, as music breathing its first breaths. Listen to "Mood for a day", for example: it's the first time his solo piece from Fragile is played on electric guitar, and the song has everything changed, including the time signature. Steve completes: "it's surprising what you can do to a tune: bend it, twist it, shake it."

On Disc 2, tracks 1-5, Steve plays solo acoustic guitar.

Lineage: Soundboard -> unknown gen cassette -> CDR -> FLAC
sndchaser version

There's another version of this show floating around with lineage "source/lineage: soundboard > unknown gen tape > unknown gen cdr > flac FLAC: 638 MB, 2cdr", upon spectral analysis it appears to be sourced from my conversion, trimmed down to fit on 2 discs, and noise reduction overapplied to make it sound and test as lossy. This is the original conversion, with no noise reduction applied. There is some tape hiss, but it sounds much clearer than the version circulating.
