Turtles and Nature Fabric

I've recently come back from a trip to Madrid, one of the days we went to Atocha railway station to go to Toledo. At Atocha station there was this pool with lots of turtles and a botanical garden.

My latest fabric sample came from Spoonflower, this one was printed on their new fabric - poly crepe de chine, it has printed very well.

The Other Reef

This is a new swatch from Spoonflower featuring the design I entered for a contest, I didn't win. The fabric is silky faille and I love how it has printed.

Which Reef?

There is a design contest coming up on Spoonflower for a fabric design on the Great Barrier Reef. I've done two possibilities but which one shall I enter, the more realistic one or the doodley one, although they are both quite busy.

Tortoise Embroidery

Take a stitch Tuesday has started again which got me thinking ...I never did show the finished embroidery I was working on last year. There were a number of TAST 2012 stitches used in the piece, which I posted about as I did them. I started the piece as a painting on fabric, then did a lot of freehand machine embroidery mainly on the grass but also on the tortoise and flowers. The picture directly below was taken after I had first started on the hand embroidery.

The entire tortoise shell is covered with beads, sewn on.

I also added beads and sequins to some of the flowers.

I didn't show it before Christmas as it was a gift for my daughter.

Doodles & collage, turtle, birds & faces

Collaged doodle - the turtle is from a magazine, it's the Wallace & Gromit creature comforts turtle

I collaged the parts of faces onto bits of the doodle that I didn't like

I've done a few watercolour & pen paintings of tortoises/turtles
Below - more rolling stamps

above - fun foam wrapped around a plastic cork

fun foam [leaf shapes] wrapped around 2 corks stuck together

scored polystyrene

fun foam with holes to make a lace like pattern wrapped around a plastic/rubbery cork. I used a hole punch, the type you would use to make a hole in a belt.

Turtle in a Box

I did a series of turtle pictures a while ago, this is one of them. Below is another version of it which I altered digitally.
