House of Fire

 March 14...

House of Fire game for youth night. When I was a kid I posted this and we called it "burn the house down". Abby went to the boys volleyball game. For pi day I made taco ring for dinner... There was not a sniff left.

Placer County Spelling Bee

On Wednesday it was PI day and I dropped these surprises on my visiting teaching ladies' porches. One was gluten-free rice krispie pie.

We saw Allen in the Placer County Spelling Bee. There were only 10 7th graders-- top in the whole county!! And this kid does zero study. He just reads a lot!!

Jill made a clover friend at school.

That pile are tablecloths for me to iron by Friday morning.

Pi Day and Prophets

  • I watched Hannah for an hour. She got to come along for morning drop-offs.
  • Jill had fun dancing with her shakers during library storytime.
  • The youth (2 wards) met to watch the Face-to-Face broadcast featuring Elder Holland and President Eyring. Since it was pi day we ate pie and popcorn while listening to prophets. What could be better!?!? My laurel advisor Angie bought nine pies (after we let the girls vote on pie flavors on Sunday) and the 3rd ward brought several too. I took a picture with the other young woman president of the 3rd ward, Christine. We do lots of coordinating by email! I also had a picture of me and three other leaders who worked and helped in the kitchen... L-R: Moriah (pp), Angie (la), me, Katie (new 1st counselor).

Mr. Pickle Pie Recipes

  • For our date last night we ate at Mr. Pickles (local deli place--Ross ordered the "Mr. Pickle" and I actually ordered the "Mrs. Pickle") and went to the temple. Earlier that day I hoped to do "fifteen minutes of Family History on Friday", but didn't get to it. But I think going to the temple (and doing family names my mom sent me) counts!
  • Got up early, and after Ross got back from running, I went shopping at Walmart at 6:50am. Love having the store to myself!
  • Went to a stake Beehive Bash. Then picked up Jill's pictures and a few Easter things at Target.
  • Ross took Allen and Abby over to Uncle Paul's to work on Allen's pinewood derby car. While they were gone we made four pies for pi day. And tonight we're having pizza pie! Posted this on FB: Happy pi day! Made 4 pies: PB, ice cream, grasshopper and key lime. And if you hold "314" and look in the mirror, it says "PIE". My kids thought that was cool.
Here are my easy pie recipes (with my own tweaks) that I made in about 90 minutes:

Peanut Butter Pie
Mix together 1/2 cup margarine, 1/2-3/4 cup peanut butter. 1/2 cup brown sugar and then add 8 oz Cool Whip. Put in Oreo pie crust. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Refrigerate until firm.

Ice Cream Pie
Fill an Oreo pie crust with 1/2 quart of ice cream (any flavor--today I did Toffee Crunch), top with chocolate and caramel syrup, and 8 oz Cool Whip. Add sprinkles (I did rainbow ones after I took the picture) or decorations. Freeze.

Grasshopper
Whip 1 cup of cream (NOT Cool Whip--whipping cream) and set aside. In a different bowl mix together 1/8 cup of milk, 7 oz container of marshmallow cream, 3-4 drops of green food coloring and 3-4 drops of peppermint extract. Add cream (whipped) and put in Oreo crust. Freeze. (I added cow sprinkles today).

Key Lime
In a blender mix 3/4 cup lime juice, 3 egg yolks, 1 can sweetened condensed milk, 1/2 stick of cream cheese and 2 drops of green food coloring. Whip. Pour into graham cracker crust. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
