Blocks in the closet

 Monday

TK ate their snacks in the mpr, we learned about the letter X, I read Corduroy and marked the "I can sit and listen to classical literature" for all scholars, except the five who stayed home sick. The TK teacher kids enjoy hanging out in the closet before and after school while their moms are working.

Pink eye

Two different families came up to me on campus randomly and told me they wanted to enroll their school in my school. I sent them to the office without the heart you tell them there was a wait-list. So weird it happened twice in the same day. We did a push pin person party for our math lesson.

Emma had a basketball game after school. The YW activity was at the Olympus Jr basketball courts. Ross and I hung frames after dinner.

I was told I did such a good job at Sunday's meeting that I was asked to lead the counsel/discussion for the adult leadership training of stake conference next month. Lucky me😉

And I had to send out a pink eye letter from the nurse to my class parents.

Stake Leadership Committee Meeting

Sept 17, 2023

Purpose: God’s work of Salvation and Exaltation and our role in assisting God in this work, especially with our role in 1) INVITING all to receive the gospel and 2) UNITING families for eternity.

HANDBOOK (introduction)

As a leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you should seek personal revelation to help you learn and fulfill the duties of your calling. Studying the scriptures and the teachings of latter-day prophets will help you understand and fulfill your duties. As you study the words of God, you will be more receptive to the influence of the Spirit (see Doctrine and Covenants 84:85).You also learn your duties by studying the instructions in this handbook. These instructions can invite revelation if they are used to provide an understanding of principles, policies, and procedures to apply while seeking the guidance of the Spirit.

1.2. God’s Work of Salvation and Exaltation

As we come unto Christ and help others do the same, we participate in God’s work of salvation and exaltation. This work is guided by the two great commandments to love God and to love our neighbors (see Matthew 22:37–39). God’s work of salvation and exaltation focuses on four divinely appointed responsibilities. These are outlined below.

We come unto Christ and assist in God’s work by:

Living the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Caring for those in need.

Inviting all to receive the gospel.

Uniting families for eternity.

This handbook will help you understand these four aspects of God’s work.

1.2.3 Inviting All to Receive the Gospel

Inviting all to receive the gospel includes:

Participating in missionary work and serving as missionaries.

Helping new and returning Church members progress along the covenant path.

1.2.4 Uniting Families for Eternity

Uniting families for eternity includes:

Making covenants as we receive our own temple ordinances.

Discovering our deceased ancestors and performing ordinances for them in the temple so they can make covenants with God.

Going to the temple regularly, where possible, to worship God and perform ordinances for His children.

1.4 Your Role in God’s Work

As a leader in the Church, you are called to teach and support those you serve as they assist God in His work of salvation and exaltation (see 1.2). Having a clear understanding of God’s work, of what He invites you to do, and of the purpose of His Church will help you focus your efforts in bringing souls to Christ. Prayerfully seek to know how you can help bring about God’s purposes in the lives of those you serve. God will direct you through the promptings of the Holy Ghost (see 2 Nephi 32:5). Laboring with the Lord in His vineyard will bring you great joy (see Jacob 5:70–72).

Conference Talk, Salvation & Exaltation by Elder Nelson, April 2008

“This life is the time to prepare for salvation and exaltation. In God’s eternal plan, salvation is an individual matter; exaltation is a family matter. … the final responsibility to prepare for salvation and exaltation rests upon each person, accountable for individual agency...”

Conference Talk, Simply Beautiful—Beautifully Simple, Elder Stevenson, Oct 2021

“If hearing the words “General Handbook” or “divinely appointed responsibilities” causes you to shudder in fear of complexity, please don’t. These responsibilities are simple, inspirational, motivating, and doable. Here they are:

Living the gospel of Jesus Christ

Caring for those in need

Inviting all to receive the gospel

Uniting families for eternity

“You might view them as I do: as a road map to return back to our loving Heavenly Father.

"President Dallin H. Oaks observed: “We are taught many small and simple things in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to be reminded that in total and over a significant period of time, those seemingly small things bring to pass great things.” Jesus Christ Himself describes that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. We should all strive to keep the gospel simple—in our lives, in our families, in our classes and quorums, and in our wards and stakes. …May we keep the gospel simple as we take upon us our divinely appointed responsibilities.”

Questions

What is your role in INVITING and UNITING God’s work of salvation and exaltation?

What evidence have you seen that members are understanding their role in this work?

Trip to Tahoe for soccer

This morning we got up at 4am, to leave at 5:15am for Jill's soccer tournament games (8am, 1:50pm) in South Lake Tahoe. They won the first game. Then we drove around the lake and I listened to my uncle's funeral live broadcasting, we visited a private beach near King's Beach, drove the rest of the way around the lake, had a burger at Izzy's Burger Spa, watched the second game (they lost) and we headed home. I worked on my handbook and part for the stake leadership committee meeting. Then we saw BYU's crazy and awesome win against Arkansas!! 🏈🎉
