Meeting Beween Congressman Shuler and Haywood Co Democrats Becomes Heated

Haywood County Democratic leaders unanimously passed a resolution endorsing a public option for health insurance, the single point on which they disagree with their hometown Congress-man, U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler.
During a recent meeting between Shuler and Haywood County precinct officials, the issue became heated, though neither side will officially comment on the matter.
“It was just a disagreement,” said Doug Abrahms, a spokesman for Shuler’s office. “He (the Congressman) might have been a little frustrated with trying to convey his opinion about what he thought on healthcare. He feels there is too much focus on the public option as a litmus test. There are lots of pieces in the healthcare bill and even President Obama said that is just a piece of a much bigger bill.”
Likewise, Janie Benson, chairwoman of the county’s Democratic Party, would not publicly comment on what some called an outburst by Shuler at the political party meeting held in Waynesville before Congress reconvened.
“It was a private meeting between precinct officials and party leaders,” she said. “I’m disturbed so much of that meeting is out on the street. As he went out the door, the Congressman said he agreed with everything on the healthcare survey except the single payer option.”
The resolution unanimously passed by the county’s executive committee meeting expresses support for “a public option for health insurance to ensure universal health insurance coverage.”
“Every Haywood County Democrat I have talked to totally supports a public option,” Benson said, adding she didn’t watch President Obama’s address on the topic because she was at a political party meeting. She said Shuler has likely been confronted about healthcare from many sides during his month-long travels in the district.

I find it funny that Congressman Shuler claims to have held many public meetings throughout the district.

I cannot recall one the public was welcome to attend in Macon County.

President Obama Health Care Address
Republican Response by Senator Charles Boustany, M.D.
Updated: Video of Democrats Booing President Bush

**update** I've posted a video at the end of this post of the Democrats repeatedly booing President George W Bush in his 2005 State of the Union Address...

**update #2** A Rally For Joe Wilson is being organized. Send your inquiries to fmwforwilson@gmail.com for more information.

The Rally will be at his ofc, 1700 Sunset Blvd, West, in Columbia, SC, late Friday afternoon.

The address by President Obama was on past my bedtime, but thanks to C-SPAN's YouTube Channel, here is the whole thing, without fawning and babbling TV Anchors and Pundits getting in the way:

When the White House uploads their copyright-free version, I'll chop it apart and hold forth on the lies and misdirections of his speech...

Meanwhile, here is the Republican Response...which the lefties at C-SPAN haven't saw fir to upload yet:

Read about the solutions
offered by the Republicans, which I haven't read because this is the first time I've heard about that website...

Kudos to Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC)for having the bravery to at least heckle the guy. My guess is that the wimpy GOP Leadership will punish him. It is my hope that the voters will punish the GOP Leadership when the next elections come around. You can bet that if Joe Wilson had been a Democrat, and Obama had been Bush...there would have been no punishment from his party's leadership.

One thing is for sure...the worse his punishment, the more his status will rise as a folk hero to many of us on the right (except, of course, the weenie Political Operatives in the GOP).

**7.37 AM** I should have known that the Democrats were being hypocrites. @LorrieByrd pointed me to this video of the Democrats repreatedly booing President George W bush during his State of the Union Address in 2005. I don't remember the Democrats issuing punishments for this, either...

Health Care Rally Held in Sylva, NC
Concerned Citizens Opportunity

I attended an open mic type of event in Sylva on Sunday that gave any one who wanted an opportunity to voice their concerns or support of health care legislation currently before Congress.

Congressman Heath Shuler, Senator Richard Burr and Senator Kay Hagan were invited to attend, but none of them showed up. Senator Burr's office was the only one to acknowledge receipt of the invitation. Shuler and Hagan's office never replied back to the event organizers.

Here is the event:

I will have a highlights reel up sometime this weekend.

Congressman Shuler "Town Hall" on WWNC-AM

In another effort to avoid face to face contact with constituents, Congressman Heath Shuler appeared on the radio show where he felt most safe from the mob, Take A Stand, hosted by Matt Mittan.

Here is the video of that appearance and you can watch it, and judge for yourself:

VIDEO REMOVED BY WWNC

Here is the audio since the video has been removed from the WWNC Ustream Account...

I had the video embedded earlier, but WWNC-AM has removed it from their Ustream account. I should have known they'd pull something like this, and I should be kicked for trusting them to leave it up and not recording the video myself. I thought the video was very telling, especially when Shuler made faces at some of the calls or when he laughed at the caller who suggested that people don't trust their government.

Given their predilection for WWNC and Matt removing stuff, here is the first two hours of the Town Hall I have swiped them and put them on my own webpage where they can't get at it:

Hour One

Hour Two

The third hour, with reactions, has not been uploaded to the WWNC Podcast page yet.

You can download your own copy at the Take A Stand podcast page.

I think that this is part of a pattern with the Congressman. He avoided numerous opportunities to have a face to face debate with his previous opponent, even avoiding facing myself [on Sept 2, 2008] and Richard Bernier [on Sept 4, 2008] to even answer the question of debating Carl Mumpower.

He eventually did debate Mumpower, but only in the studios of WWNC-AM (which most of the Congressional district can't even hear over the air, and with a large number of people on dial up, listening over the Internet is not an option.

Audio of Congressman Heath Shuler's Tele-Town Hall on Health Care

Here is the audio that I was able to record of the town hall that took place tonight. I missed the beginning because the power was temporarily out due to a Severe Thunderstorm, and the end because my Internet Connection dropped out. That wouldn't have happened in a real live Town Hall, would it?

I'll try to do the same for the September 1st event as well. Hopefully there won't be any storms then.

**9.25pm**

Here is a complete recording of the Town Hall as recorded by @LiberT, who also blogs at Fr33 Asheville:

A Fork in the Road for America,
Rebellion or Servitude

An excerpt of an insightful article:

Frankly, Americans resent authority. We accept some measure of it as a necessary evil most times, but there are limits. We can be pushed, often quite far, but when we reach a certain tipping point, enmity quickly flares. We can have quite heated arguments as equals, then knock off and have a drink. But once we have a heated argument, then are forced to do something we don’t want to do…well, we don’t like it.

That piece of our national character is being tried this month.

Over the past couple of days, we’ve seen arguments about national health care erupt into incidents of local violence. Yes, we yelled at each other bit back in 2005 or so, when Social Security reform was on the table. But now we’re seeing thugs in SEIU T-shirts showing up and throwing punches at people who are gathered to demonstrate against the current version of health care reform. We’ve seen a local Democratic Party apparatchik shove a demonstrator in the face. Billy Beck has often said it, and now he’s saying it again: “You have always heard it here first: All politics in this country now is just dressrehearsal for civil war.”

At this rate, I’m afraid that it’s going to become painfully obvious that a large number of people in this country are not going to politely doff their caps to the local SEIU grandees, once they’ve learned their lessons like good Germans. Quite the reverse, in fact.

I’ve also said before–and every time I do, people like Oliver Willis call me crazy for saying it–we’re preparing this country to split apart. There are two political camps in this country: collectivists, and and indvidualists. (Forget party labels. The parties are, at best, loose approximations of those two camps.) It’s a fairly even split between the two camps. And the fundamental philosophies of those two camps have become irreconcilable, for a number of reasons, but primarily as a result of centralization of power in Washington.

Commentary

I agree. It has been my belief for a while now that there will be a shooting war between Americans again, and have been preparing.

If you want to stop a war, then you have two options...submit to the collectivists, or get involved in the political scene in your local precinct, town, county and state. There are enough of us to derail the plans of the collectivists, if only we will get off our buttocks, turn off the TV and get involved.
