Name Change Coming for Annual Vance-Aycock Dinner
Aycock's Name to be "Retired with Honor" by Democrats

After three years of lying low, the Democrats are finally taking the advice of the Carolina Stompers [their website is currently down it's back up now], and doing away with the name Aycock from their annual dinner at the exclusive Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. I notice that they're not doing anything regarding honoring the North Carolina Confederate Governor, Zebulon Vance, who was also a racist. Here is an excerpt of a speech he gave in 1890 while serving in the US Senate:

In this great struggle to escape Negro rule and restore our State governments to the control of those who made them, and whose ancestors had established their principles in their blood, we had both the aid and the sympathy of Northern Democrats everywhere. We had neither from you. [source]

In the fall of 2007, I joined with Richard Bernier of URTV's Sound Off Buncombe to cover the Democratic Fundraiser after Chad Nesbitt of The Carolina Stompers brought it to my attention that the event was named after a racist North Carolina Governor named Charles Brantley Aycock.

Here are some videos taken by Richard Bernier and me. The first four are mine, and the last four are Richard's.

And here is Mudcat Saunders giving the Keynote.

As far as I know, Richard and I are the only two people to ever provide extensive video coverage of the exclusive fundraiser. I would go and do this every year, but Asheville is a bit far for me to travel on a lark.

In an effort to downplay Governor Aycock's blatant racism, Democrats have tried to say that they have honored him for his educational reforms. Really? Either they are completely ignorant of the types of educational reforms he supported, and his thinking behind them, or they support them.

To make sure that to honor him for his educational reforms is still honoring his racism, here is the thinking behind North Carolina Governor Charles Brantley Aycock's educational reforms in the early 20th Century from a book I have on the subject:

In 1900, North Carolina's public education for both races was among the poorest in the nation. Democrat Charles B. Aycock, a racist educational reformer, was elected governor that year. He believed that the primary reason for improving education was to train white voters. Uncharacteristically, from 1895 through 1898 Fusionists - agrarian Populists (many former democrats) and Republicans (many of them african Americans) - had controlled state government. In 1900, Democrats used the Fusion period to justify white supremacy and African American disenfranchisement as safeguards against "Negro domination." It is no wonder, then, that Aycock, whose view on education for African Americans was limited, was chosen to rescue the state. He and other educational liberals cleverly used the race question despite opposition to their centralizing educational tendencies from white rural fundamentalists and blacks who recognized the inequities of public education. A related issue was the state's need to educate a cheap, docile, but effective African American labor force. Yet the political threat of African American voters was the center of the white supremacy campaign behind the school reform movement around 1900.

The Carolina Stompers Speak with the NC Attorney General's Office

The Carolina Stompers ask for an investigation into the Buncombe County Commissioners going into a "closed meeting" to decide to do away with opening prayer before a County Commissioners meeting. We feel the Buncombe Commissioners violated NC Statutes under the closed meeting laws.

Source: Carolina Stompers (go to the website to see the video)

It's good to see the Carolina Stompers on the job...

**5.23pm**

I should have checked my email. I found this Press release from the Carolina Stompers in my inbox:

For Immediate Press Release
01/06/10
Asheville NC - The Carolina Stompers recently sent a letter to the NC Attorney Generals Office in regards
to a closed door meeting the Buncombe County Commissioners had about removing prayer from the beginning of each county commissioners meeting. Attached is the letter.
We feel that this meeting was in violation of NC general Statute 143-318.11 Closed sessions.
It states that -
"General policy matters may not be discussed in a closed session and nothing herein shall be construed to permit a public body to close a meeting that otherwise would be open merely because an attorney employed or retained by the public body is a participant."
The issue surfaced after commissioners talked in closed session Dec. 1 about a lawsuit challenging similar prayers at Forsyth County commissioner meetings. County Attorney Michael Frue said at the time that commissioners had decided to switch to a moment of silence, but commissioners Chairman David Gantt said no decision had been made. The Carolina Stompers want to know the truth and why, (in the closed meeting), did the county commissioners order county attorney Michael Frue to issue a letter to local municipalities of the County Commissioners decision to do away with prayer.
We further more feel that commissioners "polling a consensus" of each other to be it by phone, e-mail, or meeting is a violation.
This should be done in a public, open, and transparent regular county commissioners meeting.
Since writing our letter, we have spoken with Mrs. Susan Nichols of the NC Attorney Generals Office. She told us that the Attorney Generals Office does not investigate Public Integrity issues and referred us to either take elected officials to court ourselves or contact the School of Government at Chapel Hill NC. But according to the NC Attorney Generals website -
"Public Integrity"
"Government employees and elected officials have a responsibility to respect the law, act ethically and conduct their work in a transparent manner.
Attorney General Cooper and the Department of Justice help you know what your rights and responsibilities are under the law and actively investigate and prosecute officials who violate the publics trust.

North Carolinas Public Records and Open Meetings laws provide the foundation for knowing what government officials and entities do. North Carolinians are generally entitled to see any
public record. Public bodies must generally conduct business in public."

The website link can be found at
http://www.ncdoj.com/Top-Issues/Public-Integrity.aspx

Here is a video of the conversation we had with Mrs. Nichols - www.carolinastompers.com

The Carolina Stompers feel that the NC Attorney Generals Office needs to decide if they are going to hold elected officials accountable to the citizens of NC. We feel they should investigate all "Public Integrity" issues as per what their website says and prosecute if needed.

The Carolina Stompers will continue to ask the NC Attorney Generals Office to investigate and are looking at other legal options to get the truth.

Carolina Stompers and Thunder Pig recognized by Bothwell Campaign

Snapshot from Bothwell Campaign Newsletter

Information on how you can subscribe to Cecil Bothwell's newsletter. I disagree with Bothwell on virtually every issue, and I think it is imperative that we keep up with what the opposition thinks, and what they are up to in their campaigns.

Read for yourself how this all started.

I will give kudos to the Bothwell Campaign because they handled the criticism very well, and my fellow Republicans should learn from that, including my friend Chad Nesbitt and his sponsor, Tim Johnson, who continues to foster the destruction of what is left of the Republican Party in Buncombe County, and is working hard on spreading that disease to the 11th District, as well the rest of the state.

I wonder if he can tell me how many Buncombe Republicans actually won their races in the past two years?

Even though I consider Chad a friend, I will fight him every step of the way on this with every tool at my disposal. I do not want to see the circus that is the Buncombe County GOP spread past the borders of Buncombe County.

Dramatic Scene Unfolds at URTV as Police Remove Armed Man from Studio,
Citizens Speak Show Producer Don Yelton Suspended

The details are on The Carolina Stompers website.

My initial comment at this point is that I think the private investigator was very sloppy, and needs to work on the concealed part of concealed carry.

Don Yelton and Chad Nesbitt are friends of the recently ousted (by a vote of 8-0) URTV board member Richard Bernier. For more information on that long developing drama, see the Mountain Xpress, taking care to read the comments for a flavor of the situation.

The Carolina Stompers and the Case of the Dubbed Applause
Updated with Video Mockery
Update #2: A Ron Paul Supporter Goes Off...

The Carolina Stompers have discovered fake applause in a campaign commercial for Cecil Bothwell, a candidate for Asheville City Council.

I find it funny because Cecil Bothwell's slogan is "Keeping it Real". Uh-huh!

**8.11am** I was inspired by the Carolina Stomper post to make a video of my own, mocking the video for Cecil Bothwell...

**2.26pm**

A friend has forwarded an email to me concerning fallout over the Carolina Stompers spotting fake applause in a Cecil Bothwell video, and a friend was kind enough to forward me the email (not Chad Nesbitt, but a mole in the Liberty group). Here it is in all it's "Christian" glory:

Where were you and Carl Mumpower when everyone thought that vice chair
candidate Tim Johnson was going down? We were there for Tim and we helped
get him elected. Why do you have that ThunderPig bullshit video about Ron
Paul supporters on your website? Do you think that we are liberals? We
know more about the Constitution, free markets, civil liberties and limited
government than you will ever know.

The Carolina Stompers Launch Campaign to Destroy a Poltical Opponent

Here is just a taste from their website:

Dear Mrs. Strach,

It has come to our attention that a “Notice Of Noncompliance” had been issued to the 11th Congressional District Republican Committee on February 26, 2008. On April 8, 2008 a “Notice Of Termination Of Active Status” had been issued to 11th CDRC. Then two letters of “Notice Of Penalty Assessment” were issued on May 22 and July 21 of 2008. One for $100.00 the other for $150.00.

It has also come to our attention that approximately $10,000.00 was raised and funds were distributed for the April 25th 2009 11th CDR Convention.

According to Chapter 1.0104(d) of Title 8 of the NC Administrative Code the 11th CDRC is ineligible to receive or make contributions until such time as any delinquent reports are filed and has satisfied any statutory penalty incurred as a result of noncompliance with the provisions of Article 22A of Chapter 163 of the NC General Statutes.

Commentary

This saddens me that I am forced to expose a little of the political maneuverings that have gone on behind the scenes. People are (and have been) using transparency as a weapon in an attempt to destroy others, especially in Buncombe County.

I know a little something about what is gone on behind the scenes between Chad Nesbitt, Don Yelton, and others that they set their sights on to destroy because they either have not supported them or their candidate for particular offices. In fact, Carolina Stomper Don Yelton ran against Steve Duncan at the most recent NC-11 GOP District Convention, and Richard Bernier, a business partner of Don Yelton's, [US Web Talk Radio] [Web Snapshot] [Whois lookup] questioned the transparency of the Treasurer's Report there also. Did he know something then? Why did he not share it with the convention in an effort to promote transparency? Does this sound familiar? Some of the very same people have been involved in a long series of controversies at URTV in Asheville.

This is, in my opinion, part of a power grab and a punishment they are trying to mete out against the chair of the NC-11 GOP, Steve Duncan.

After Chad Nesbitt was the victim of a similar Jerry Meeks lawfare campaign designed to shut down the Stompers, I thought Chad would not stoop to such a tactic...especially in the light of attempts to foster party unity yesterday at the NCGOP Convention.

I am saddened by this, and will be opposing it with every means at my disposal, putting myself in the line of fire for the personal attacks that I know will be their first line of attack.

Shame on the Carolina Stompers.

I have been a supporter of Chad Nesbitt and the Carolina Stompers because I saw their efforts in the housing projects to help people, their production of commercials that exposed the hypocrisy of Democrats and their most recent efforts to make a video every week that injected humor into news sharing. I recognized them by calling Chad Nesbitt as the WNC Conservative of the Year for 2008. [link to Carolina Stomper articles on Thunder Pig]

I, too, am not afraid to call things like I see it.

There are some things you should know that are driving this action that should be out in the open for everyone to know.

I am saddened that it has come to this...and I feel compelled to make my stand here.

Stay tuned. This could get ugly.

**7.39am 6-16-2009**

Some people have tried to make like there is a schism between me and the Stompers. Not so. We just happen to disagree on this issue and I still intend to promote the other fine work these guys and gals are doing. I abide by the 80% rule of Ronald Reagan...unlike others in our party.

I've even been known to work with the Ronulans and Progressives when our goals more or less are the same.

Carolina Stompers Offer $500 Reward to Catch Criminal

96 year old Grace Freeman was severley beaten during a home invasion in Buncombe County, and the Carolina Stompers are adding $500 to the Crime Stoppers reward money.

A man described as being white and in his 20s knocked on the door, then entered Grace Freeman's home, Buncombe County Sheriff's Lt. Ross Dillingham said. The man then beat Freeman, fracturing bones in her face and causing several cuts, Dillingham said.

After the alleged assault, Freeman was able to use her walker to get to the end of her driveway, where she collapsed and was discovered by neighbors shortly before 9 p.m. The driveway is about 100 feet long and was muddy Friday.

“If she stayed up there (in her house) and not been found, there's no telling what could have happened,” Dillingham said. “She might not have made it.”

The Carolina Stompers Expose Grafitti Problem in Asheville

Chad Nesbitt reports on the problem of graffiti in Asheville, including a bridge that the Asheville City Council PAID to be 'decorated' with Gansta 'Art' as a giant mural. Business owners are worried it may scare tourists away. Watch his report at Carolina Stompers

Commentary

The graffiti wouldn't scare me away, but it would cause me to make sure I had a round chambered in the .45 and the safety in the off position when doing business in the area...which includes most of Asheville now anyway.

Morning Brief 01-26-2009

Here is my morning brief linkfest...

Zen Pundit has another one of his Recommended Reading posts up, and I also recommend his previous post in the hidden networks of twitter.

Ubiwar has an interesting article on the Quantum Theory of War.

The Northeast Intelligence Network is undergoing a substantial overhaul following this statement that was posted, then removed from the website:

20 January 2008: Over the last several months, the Northeast Intelligence Network has been quietly conducting a number of investigations into threats posed to the safety, security and sovereignty of our homeland. Our core network of highly trained, professional veteran investigators located in three countries on two continents have developed - and continue to develop - information that we feel is critical to the safety, security and sovereignty of the U.S., Canada and in fact, all Western countries. The United States, Canada and the West is under attack by several enemies - externally and internally - by Islamic terrorists and their supporters, and by individuals and organizations with globalist agendas. To exacerbate the threats, our media has fully succumbed to pressure exerted by special interest groups and those in positions of power. We have the evidence. The manipulation does not stop with the media, but also extends to various Internet sites once considered valuable and accurate sources of accurate and unbiased news.

In our quest for the truth, we have stepped on a lot of toes, but we have also developed a network of informational assets within various levels of the government and the corporate media. They are our allies, and they have reaffirmed their commitment to insure that the truth gets to the people. This is especially necessary at present, when even the most dismissive among us must admit that the confluence of national and global events is far from coincidental. From the purposely manipulated oil prices, to the manufactured economic crisis, the rise in geopolitical tensions and other watershed events of epic proportions, it is important not to be myopic in the scope of investigations and analysis, and to encompass all aspects of the various threats facing us, no matter where the evidence leads or how uncomfortable the results.

To provide a better method of disseminating information and publicizing the results of our investigations, we are in the process of changing our web site structure and appearance. Please be patient as we complete our integration over the next few days. We promise it will be worth it.

Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

William S. Lind has noted that Israel doesn't get 4GW. I am afraid that I will have to agree. At about three weeks into Operation Cast Lead, I came to the same conclusion, which leads me to Israeli bloggers...Israel Matzav has a video on how to make a Hamas Hero, and Israelly Cool has a daily update on what is going on in Israel, as does The Muqata, who has also posted some amazing images from Operation Cast Lead.

The American Power blog has an article entitled, "The Complexity of American Ideology" that is very interesting, as well a piece on the Ugly Side of Obama's Inauguration, and what that tells us about Obama and the Left.

And, from Alaska, Syrin has this to say about the failure of the pipeline Sarah Palin said she was building in Alaska, and addressed in her latest radio show:

(1/26/09) Admit it; you've been in a theatre and you've had the strong urge to yell at the characters on the screen during the tense moments of the movie. "What are you going to do now!? You lost your gun when you broke the window...what are you going to do now!?"

For those of us who have been keeping tabs on the Palin administration's efforts to secure commitments for the construction of a natural gas pipeline, we've been yelling at the characters for almost two years.

From the first day they rolled out their AGIA fantasy in March of 2007 to August of 2008 when they awarded the AGIA license to TransCanada, we've been yelling that "AGIA is a waste of $500 million because it ignores critical legal and fiscal realities."

And yes, even when Governor Palin stood before God and country, not to mention 70 million viewers watching the Vice Presidential debate and lied by saying "we're building that $40 billion pipeline, the most expensive infrastructure project in the history of the United States," we yelled at the screen then as well; "What the hell are you talking about?"

And looking to the south, Fausta has a disquieting article regarding Mexico's Ominous Drug Wars that bears checking out.

Red Stater has a photo of a nonperson who has no rights at all (according to President Obama).

Judi McLeod, writing in the Canada Free Press, notes that President Obama is looking more like a Tin Pot Dictator than a messiah since his tussle with Rush Limbaugh. So much for Free Speech, eh? President Obama, your Lefty Totalitarianism is showing...

Common Cents has a pair of videos in the Video Vault that are worth watching (but not without Kleenex---you've been warned).

The Gates of Vienna have a very detailed and comprehensive news feed that you should check out.

Another blogger that does an excellent job of providing news coverage is the one at Peace Like A River, as does Threats Watch, who focuses on military matters.

Gateway Pundit has the utter stupidity of Democrat Nancy Pelosi essentially declaring that killing babies will save money and stimulate the economy. Boy, if she keeps saying stupid stuff like that, (and the GOP doesn't screw up) we could take the US House back in 2010.

A group effort at Watts Up With That? has reached an important milestone in the effort to survey the 1221 surface stations used to monitor temperature, the project has surveyed 819, or 67% of the stations in the USA. You can help this project by surveying a station near you. The North Carolina Survey is 90% complete, and can be viewed in this online gallery.

Carolina blogger Longstreet observes that President Obama has picked the wrong fight when he chose to attack Rush Limbaugh.

And in the Communist-Occupied city of Asheville, NC, the SDS will be staging a "teach-in" to spread propaganda a lies about how Hamas is not a terrorist organization and Israel is.

The primary force to battle the Communists in asheville is The Carolina Stompers, and they have a letter from Dr. Mumpower posted on their site...which is nearing its sceduled re-launch date.

Last, but certainly not least, AshVegas has noted a boom in the construction of liquor stores in Asheville.

The "2008 WNC Conservative of the Year"
and a Look Back at 2008

The Thunder Pig

2008 WNC CONSERVATIVE OF THE YEAR

THE CAROLINA STOMPERS & CHAD NESBITT

The
Carolina Stompers , and their head honcho, Chad Nesbitt have done an excellent job of bringing the corruption in Buncombe County and the Democratic Party of North Carolina to light. While I can offer no substantial prize, I can offer a hearty "Well Done!" to Chad and his Carolina Stompers for their willingness to tread where other Republicans fear.

Chad has earned the ill will of NCDP Chairman Jerry Meeks, progressive bloggers, part-time Republicans, scores of Mtn X denziens and Coven Oldenwilde.

Chad, I salute you and your band of hearty warriors!

I look forward to watching you expand your franchise in 2009 and wish you nothing but success and the sound of liberals wailing and gnashing their teeth to sing you to sleep at night!!!

2008 IN REVIEW

If I don't get to post any more this year, I would like to thank everyone who visited my blog, emailed me with words of support, sent money to me, clicked on my advertising...and hit my Tip Jar. You have made it possible for me to do this full-time for over a year now.

This has allowed me to post at a prodigious rate (3,041 posts to date, 96 took place in 2005, 469 in 2006, 753 in 2007 and a whopping 1579 posts to date in 2008!!!), which I doubt I will be able to increase upon for next year because of several projects which will come to fruition, including a social networking site, a video show and a radio show I have been making cryptic allusions to over the past six months. My time be be spent wearing many hats in 2009.

Others in the conservative community have been making strides online also, and I wish to recognize some of them:

The Carolina Stompers

What can I say about this lovable bunch except they make me smile, give them awards, and have hope for Buncombe County, the land that has been dominated by progressives for so long. I am glad that Chad has avoided joining the circular firing squads this year. Chad has been overwhelmingly positive in our conversations and emails. And as a bonus, he hasn't threatened to sic his lawyer on me (inside joke).

The NC-11 GOP Primary

We had a good field of candidates.

One thing that I hope all Republicans took from this race is that it does take money to run a campaign. The Number One thing that money will get you is a paid staff of people who know what they are doing, who know how to build networks, and who know how to go and get more money with which to present the candidate's message to the public, which is the Second thing that money will get you. This Poverty Mentality must not be tolerated in our party any longer.

Kathy Rhodarmer

Kathy has been a Conservative Warrior for quite a while, and
made her first videos this past year. I think that she will be a rising star in the Citizen Journalist Corps that will be coming to the fore in 2009 in our area.

Richard Bernier

He has produced a lot of video this year, most of it available on his youtube channels called
Sound Off Buncombe, Captricrude1 and his Exposure room channel.

He and Randy Thomas started a website called
Draft Sarah Palin for President 2012 as Palinmania swept through some quarters of the GOP.

These two have also teamed up with Don Yelton to form an
Internet Talk Radio concern, which will officially launch in 2009. I wish them luck in their endeavour.

Don Yelton

Don Yelton has been a mentor to me, and a perennial gadfly to the power structure in both the Democratic and Republican Parties. He r
an for Buncombe County Commissioner this year, and maintains a steady stream of emails pointing people to news they might have otherwise missed.  Visit his website to keep up with his activities.

GOP State Level Candidates

I would like to recognize Susan Pons, and RL Clark, who ran for the NC Senate in their districts and also Dodie Allen and Paul Perdue, who ran for NC House seats. Although these people did not win, I would encourage to run again and to stay active in politics.

The Race for the Governor saw 4 qualified candidates run in the Republican primary. The problem here was that too many conservatives running split the primary vote and allowed the least conservative to win that race, as in the Presidential campaign. McCrory would have made a better Governor than the Democrat candidate, though.

OTHER LOCAL GOP NEWS

The Buncombe County Republican Party finally built a
modern website, complete with a video gallery. Now, we need to see if Republicans in Buncombe County will utilize it properly and develop a corps of videographers.

Jimmy Goodman ran a good positive campaign for Macon County commissioner this year. He defeated the sitting Chairman, Charles Leatherman, and ran on making positive changes, including putting the County Commission meetings on the Internet, which the old guard have refused to do. I hope that Jimmy will run again, and that this time, he will win.

It is in his honor that I will begin my long-threatened coverage of the Macon County Commission meetings in 2009. That is one project that I have been putting off for far too long, and I will be posting video excerpts of the meetings and taking notes to create a record that is search able, and will hopefully lead to more accountability in the coming year. The Macon County Commission has thwarted the will of Maconians for far too long.

LOOKING FORWARD

In case you haven't noticed...this list of people to recognize has been far too short. There needs to be more republicans involved in the online political arena, and it will be one of my major goals to get more people involved on their own websites producing written, oral and visual content.

And if i can convince them all that we are not competitors, but allies...then we will begin winning elections instead of trying to stab each other in the back.
