OPAM (One Project A Month....April 2016)

Gosh this year is just flying by but luckily enough I was able to score two OPAMs this month
Fabric used was a panel and fabric from Anni Downs of Hatched and Patched
The fabric is her latest.....All in a Day

This month's project is a Sewing Machine cover

Complete with a pocket on each side

As I needed the cover NOW I hunted around for some fabric for the lining and came up with one of JoJo's old blue and white checked sheets
It worked a treat and I'm very happy with it!!!

Tutorial for Sewing Machine cover found over here

Litte Lidija was here over the holidays and she inspected the cover,
took it off

and had a chuckle about it all and put it on

and showed off her 'new hat' lol

While she was here she wanted a quick little something made so after she chose fabric, ribbon and button (had to be pink) I made up a little bag for her and now she puts her Mum's old phone into it!!!
Fabric received in a Swap on my recent Hobart trip
Ribbon from an Antique Stationer in Hobart
and I think the button came from Queensland!!!

Thank you so much Peg and Kris for hosting OPAM again this month
I love trying to get something made each month!!!

Blog posts are few and far between lately as I'm still suffering from headaches and migraine when I spend too much time on the computer but learning to restrict myself.  This unfortunately means I can't get around and comment all the time but I do try and get to read my favourite blogs.......

~OPAM and New Projects~

I hope all my lovely readers have had a wonderful Christmas break and are enjoying these lazy days of the New Year!!!

For my final OPAM (One Project a Month) for 2013 I used Anni Downs' Christmas fabric line

and this pattern

to make 2 needlecases and 2 scissor fobs which were my OPAM for October

and this little sewing basket.....I ended up making 2 baskets
1 for me and 1 for my Swap Partner Sandi.
Thank you Peg and Kris for again running OPAM!!!

Meanwhile I have chosen a couple of new projects to work on (I love to start new projects) in the New Year.  The first one is the Sing bag by Anni Downs again.
This bag will be perfect to take along with me to my lessons

I bought the kit last year intending to starting it now!!!

Also I have chosen a quilt from this book Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Quilts by
Pam and Nicky Lintott

called 'Diamonds at Large'
I'm going to make it for my Brother for his birthday later in the year as he has serious health issues

I'm going to be using a Collections for a Cause Layer Cake that I have been saving for just the right occasion!

Happy New Year and Happy Stitching......love Dzintra

~Sewing Kit for Bushfire Appeal...threads and latest projects~

The above pic is of a postcard of our local area that was sent to Tasmania

and here is the Sewing Kit that was put together to donate to sewers at Dunalley
A lot of people lost everything in the bushfire devastation there recently and my Online Stitching Group Friends in Stitching (FIS) put out a call to see if anyone could donate certain items

The brief was ~ a pincushion, threadcatcher, 2 fat 1/4's, packet of needles, scissors, 3 DMC threads, a pattern and pellon, a surprise and a stitching bag to put it in
Helen Stubbings from Hugs'nKisses has donated patterns to this cause

Helen has been rewarded for her generous nature by being named Barnardos Mother of the Week. The nomination, prepared by her eldest daughter, highlights Helen's passion for helping others.

Thank you so much Helen and thanks to Jo for organizing this

Pic from Jo's blog shows the bridge and area that is now cut off from mainland Tasmania

Meanwhile when I go to a patchwork shop now and I have JoJo with me I ask her to choose a few nice colours of threads for me....and above is what she has chosen this time....

My latest kit from Anni Downs of Hatched and Patched

I saw these quilting threads on a wooden spool and had to have those

After hanging on to this fabric for ages it's nearly time to cut into it

My Daughter knew that I wanted some blog cards and she ordered these plus a pen as well...
Thank you so much Jacqueline......they are great
How cool are they......look out now everyone when I see you next!!!!

~Some Stitching...Wool...a Carnival and a Book~

I haven't really done much stitching at all this January but I thought I would try out the addictive thread catchers that a lot of people are doing throughout blogland....I made 2 and they are certainly contagious!!!  I've cut out another 4....

Even tried out a fancy stitch on the top of one...

During the month I washed some homespun wool my Son and partner bought back from Argentina for me...

Mr Armchair took JoJo to a local carnival for a ferris wheel ride and they saw a Fairground Organ there...

Here she is on the top of the wheel

Looking at north over Corrigans Beach

I received this book and I'm soooooo looking forward to starting it and seeing Mr Lincoln the film when it starts...

On the knee front I've had accupuncture and am amazed at the result
My friend had some too and she's amazed
Can we be lucky a 3rd time...my Son goes today

Now I better get my act together and do those threadcatchers for OPAM (One Project A Month) which I have joined again this year
OPAM is hosted by Peg and Kris and there is still space to join...

Happy Stitching......can it be February already?!

~Our Christmas Food......and a New Year's Eve Wish~

The lighting was all set

Bon bons in place (that we forgot to use at mealtime)

Men folk at the bbq
We had our Christmas just the weekend before

And in the kitchen from Australian Good Food Magazine I was making a couple of salads

Fruit and Nut Pumpkin Quinoa with Yogurt Sauce

Roasted Beetroot, Carrot and Walnut Salad

And then from donna hay magazine

Orange and Mustard Glazed Ham

one of the wines sampled

I managed to make a quick bunting a few days before......blog post over here

Our Christmas tree

and the sweetest sight
whilst everybody was out the back the 2 little grandies found their little chairs and popped themselves in front of the tree

and finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JoJo made something at her day programme and then stuck labels all over the gift with family members names all over it

And check this out...JoJo's gift to me, this cool sewing basket with the Eiffel Tower all over it......

On Christmas morning, from the same Good Food magazine I made a gluten free (yes gluten free) Spiced Stollen (a traditional German cake)
The mixture was a bit 'wet'

I did shape it but it spread
Next time I will try more of a loaf pan
There will definitely be a next time

Absolutely delicious.......I haven't had a traditional European bread like this for years

We took a walk down to the beach on Christmas afternoon
It was an overcast, breezy type of day

Seeing it's New Years Eve tomorrow (who can believe that......this year has flown by) I'd like to raise a glass to all my Bloggy Pals and Readers and wish you all a Happy and Safe New Year with all good things for 2013......2013 holds for me a huge birthday and a huge wedding anniversary...
Gosh where does the time go???????

This pic of Sydney Harbour Bridge New Years's Eve Fireworks 2010 taken off the television
