~Connor's Storybook for Dad~

A little Quilt all rolled up and made for one special little boy

My Great Nephew Connor James who lost his Dad tragically last month

I had a Charm Pack........fabric.......Fat 1/4's of the fabric Storybook which I absolutely love

Even had a Jelly Roll which I used for Sashing and Binding

Part of what drew me to this fabric was the Castle and the colour

I even had a Pattern by paula storm designs all ready to go

This little quilt came together quickly
In all 12 days.......an all time record for me

and ta da modelled the Quilt in our front garden before driving 5 hours to hand it over to Connor

I used the pic of Scott and Connor and Mr Armchair photocopied it on to the special fabric for me and then stitched it on to the back of the quilt
I wasn't sure about this pic to start with but then thought it's for Connor and he might just like to snuggle up with it.
 I'm still modelling

Well blow me down I don't see Connor regularly but when we unravelled the quilt he reached out for it.......he was even reaching out for it when it was all tied up
Seem just like he knew it was for him
Just beautiful to see

Here I am with my Niece Elise and Connor

Connor goes all shy but he was happy to have a pic with me on this occasion

Elise was so happy and she straight away shared it on Facebook.
I loved making this for you Connor and Elise
A special quilt to remember Daddy by.

Fabric..........Storybook by Kate and Birdie for Moda
Jelly Roll Basics
Size.......approximately 44" square
Thread.......Gutterman for piecing
Mettler Quilting thread Natural 4 for In The Ditch and Cross Hatch
Aurifil 1148 for Aqua bits

Since this quilt I have barely touched needle and thread
Christmas preparations with JoJo  are keeping us busy
plus I haven't been able to spend too much time at the computer due to 'fuzzy eyes' and headaches/migraine from it but I do get around to most blogs to see what they've been up to.
Unfortunately though I haven't been commenting too much either.

Wishing everyone a lovely week prior to Christmas though I know it can get a bit hectic!

Love, Dzintra

~Wrapped in Paisley~ A New Quilt

Last week I saw on the Fat Quarter site a Tutorial for a Jelly Roll Jam II Quilt-
Shortcut Quilt Series
I was intrigued and went had a look and decided there and then 'I'll do that'!
This is my second Jelly Roll that I have ever used and I got really keen

The Jelly Roll I used was Wrapped in Paisley by Kansas Trouble Quilters
Beautiful rich, dark, warm colours

I printed the pattern out
Looked at the Tutorial
Pattern here

Organized my strips

Sewed them together

Blocks all stitched together

Sorting out the backing strips
The backing is the rest of the strips sewn together
Can't get much easier than that!!!

Last night the backing and quilt top together

The back is together

So happy with this!!!
There are instructions on the pattern for larger sized quilts
So you never know, another day I might just do it again!!!

Thanks so much Fat Quarter Shop and Kimberly for a great Tutorial and Pattern
I'm sure to come back for more!!!

Post Script......I emailed Kimberly and showed her my quilt top and she came back with the following
Hi Dzintra,
Thank you so much for sharing this.  Your quilt is beautiful and I am so happy you made the quilt!  You have definitely made my day!!!

~OPAM (One Project A Month)~August ~Bars of Gold~ And Pirates Costume

Woo hooo doing a Happy Dance here with this month's OPAM

What started out as some fabric and a Jelly Roll (I didn't even know what that was when we moved here 5 years ago)
When I first saw this Jelly Roll at Steph's it just sung to me of pretty blues and mauves and sunshine just perfect for our Sea Change so I went back and bought if for myself for my birthday

and a blog win of this book by Pan and Nicky Lintott from Micki

I can now proudly present 'Bars of Gold'

Front of quilt on Father's Day morning

and the back
all waiting for the addition of this little label

I even made a little 'frame' for the label

binding
All quilted very simply with 'In The Ditch'

all neatly folded up
Thank you to Sweet Peg and her Partner in Crime Kris for hosting OPAM!!!

And to celebrate I made some Choc-Chip Vanilla Muffins for Morning Coffee

I didn't realize this till one time I went out of my sewing room and saw my little doggie Paris 'guarding' the staircase whilst I was upstairs

I thought I would show this off too
Even though JoJo is not part of OPAM she did stick these felt flowers onto a book for a friend's birthday

And onto the Pirates of Penzance which is playing at Bay Theatre Players next month
Here is my Policeman's jacket with braid/ribbon on which had to be taken off
gold buttons had to be replaced with black ones

and all set ready to be taken to the Theatre for duty!!!

My Birthday Week...

Just finishing up on my birthday week...

Here's a cheers to you all for my birthday wishes!!!

Mr Armchair took JoJo and I out to dinner at Monet's just before the weekend...

Scallops here...

Sushi...delicious!!!

The wine...

The meals...lamb above...bouillabaisse below (a traditional Provençal fish stew originating from the port city of Marseille)

Chocolate Mousse...

The 3 of us...

The next morning our Daughter Jacqueline and her Hubby arrived to leave our little Grandson Ryan for us for a few days for the school holidays...On Sunday morning we went our for breakfast...
Here is Ryan with his little Sister Lidija sharing a milkshake...
how cute are they!!!

Ryan love his trains...
he called us to come and look at the beautiful train track he made...
when he grows up he wants to re-instate the train tracks throughout the country...How cool is that...and all from a 6 year old...he actually said it when he was 5...

We had pancakes on Monday morning and JoJo set the table...
she laid out the jams and syrup...and Ryan's water bottle...
Good thinking JoJo!!!

Ryan lined up his trains...I thought we would watch Harry Potter together...
he didn't make it through the movie...it all got a bit too much for him...
will have to watch it another time...he did like the train and the owl though!!!

We went out for birthday lunch on Tuesday...
Ryan loves to be in photos...

On Thursday I met my friend Asta for coffee at Starfish Deli...
and she had a surprise gift for me...
this little stitched bag...isn't it gorgeous...
beautiful warm colours...

together with a little Anni Downs notebook and a lovely card...
Thank you so much dear Asta...loved the catch up...we'll do it again soon!!!

We spontaneously took a drive up the little historic village of Milton on Saturday...
had to pop into My Patch and bought some fabrics...this lovely modern funky paisley...

OoLaLa Charm Pack by Bunny Hill Designs for Moda...

and a fun 1930's Jelly Roll...30's Playtime "Chloe's Closet"...I've never bought anything like this before...

I entered a swap...

Pic found on internet

And to finish off the week...
Mr Armchair commutes to work 2 hours each way...
due to all the rain we have had Clyde Mountain had a landslide and it took him 4 and half hours to get home...I understand the engineers are working on it amongst others to clear it all...

And due to this Ryan isn't coming here this week!!!

Have a great week everyone...Love Dzintra xo

Welcome To My World

Hello, my name is Dzintra Ingrid ... have been known as Ingrid and since our Sea Change I have started to use Dzintra ... pronounced without the D ... (but still known as Ingrid, I know, it's confusing ...)

Welcome to my world ... a journal of our Sea Change ... Mum to three wonderful children ... bringing up a daughter with a disability and seeing life through her eyes ... being a new Nanna ... photos ... inspiring quotes ... taking on a cookery course ... the odd recipe ... and trying to get some stitching done amongst all this ...
