~Connor's Storybook for Dad~

A little Quilt all rolled up and made for one special little boy

My Great Nephew Connor James who lost his Dad tragically last month

I had a Charm Pack........fabric.......Fat 1/4's of the fabric Storybook which I absolutely love

Even had a Jelly Roll which I used for Sashing and Binding

Part of what drew me to this fabric was the Castle and the colour

I even had a Pattern by paula storm designs all ready to go

This little quilt came together quickly
In all 12 days.......an all time record for me

Quilt top

Binding

and ta da modelled the Quilt in our front garden before driving 5 hours to hand it over to Connor

Back

I used the pic of Scott and Connor and Mr Armchair photocopied it on to the special fabric for me and then stitched it on to the back of the quilt
I wasn't sure about this pic to start with but then thought it's for Connor and he might just like to snuggle up with it.
 I'm still modelling

Well blow me down I don't see Connor regularly but when we unravelled the quilt he reached out for it.......he was even reaching out for it when it was all tied up
Seem just like he knew it was for him
Just beautiful to see

Here I am with my Niece Elise and Connor

Connor goes all shy but he was happy to have a pic with me on this occasion

Elise was so happy and she straight away shared it on Facebook.
I loved making this for you Connor and Elise
A special quilt to remember Daddy by.

Fabric..........Storybook by Kate and Birdie for Moda
Jelly Roll Basics
Size.......approximately 44" square
Thread.......Gutterman for piecing
Mettler Quilting thread Natural 4 for In The Ditch and Cross Hatch
Aurifil 1148 for Aqua bits

Since this quilt I have barely touched needle and thread
Christmas preparations with JoJo  are keeping us busy
plus I haven't been able to spend too much time at the computer due to 'fuzzy eyes' and headaches/migraine from it but I do get around to most blogs to see what they've been up to.
Unfortunately though I haven't been commenting too much either.

Wishing everyone a lovely week prior to Christmas though I know it can get a bit hectic!

Love, Dzintra

The Making of a Quilt...Forty Years of Light and OPAM (One Project A Month)

5 years on and off in the planning and how to execute this quilt
for my Son's birthday
I even thought perhaps I'll make a Log Cabin one

Who else to ask for advice but my dear Friend Geo (no blog)
This required a few hours drive and a couple of overnight stays
We arrived and not too long afterwards Geo got into the drawing of The Triangle

I was assigned the ironing in preparation for The Rainbow

Sewing away with a smile lol

Step 1 Rainbow done!!!!!!

Precision work here

Meanwhile Mr Armchair entertains JoJo

As does Geo's DH Lloyd

And loookeeee it's coming together

And wow a Quilt Top in 2 days
We were all sooooooo happy and excited

Geo assigned JoJo the task of decorating the Christmas Tree
She was so happy to do this
I reckon she would do this for a living if she could lol

I'm pretty new to quilting and this was a precise job being very straight angles and lines
Everything had to be exact

Quilting away
Whoever thought I would love this
I need to learn more about it especially free motion and hand quilting

Another day and still quilting

All done and time for a photo shoot
For this one I thought I would choose a bush setting as DS loves the bush and practically
grew up in it
So we headed off the the Gold Rush Colony home of our Melodramas

All rolled up

The back is black with gold musical notes

The day before we  handed it over
I thought we had to do a photo shoot here in our yard and on the beach our extended front yard

Mr Armchair quite liked the seaside daisies here

We came across this sweet little Love Heart

Then I thought I had to have a bag to put Forty Years of Light into

And it's all done!!!!!

So happy with it all

Thank you so much to Mr Armchair for helping out with the Mathematics of it all
Geo for The Triangle and lots of patchworky advice
Lloyd for entertaining JoJo and keeping the meals up to us all
JoJo for keeping us on our toes

And to both of you Geo and Lloyd for being such wonderful hosts
We had a fabulous weekend
Mmmmmm what will we make next???

*****************

The quilt and the bag are my OPAM for this month
Thank you so much Sweet Peg and Kris for hosting again this year

~A New Quilt......Fourty Years of Light~

I have one very special quilt in the making right now which I think is going to be called
 'Fourty Years of Light'
I had quite a bit of help with this one from my Mr Armchair and my Very Dear Friend Geo (no blog)
We went to Geo's place one weekend to work on it
I drew up what I had an idea of in my head
Between Mr Armchair and Geo they did all the maths and measurements for me

 Fabrics set to go

The 'rainbow' is stitched together

The triangle is measured out

Looking familiar now?
We are huge Pink Floyd fans here and this is my interpretation of 'Dark Side of the Moon'

Borders starting to happen

All stitched

and finally pinned
Looking sooooo good!!!

Geo shared a bit on White Light with me and the physics of it all
Now to work out how to quilt it!!!

For a similar quilt have a look over here

Shine On.......
Happy Quilting, Dzintra xo

Welcome To My World

Hello, my name is Dzintra Ingrid ... have been known as Ingrid and since our Sea Change I have started to use Dzintra ... pronounced without the D ... (but still known as Ingrid, I know, it's confusing ...)

Welcome to my world ... a journal of our Sea Change ... Mum to three wonderful children ... bringing up a daughter with a disability and seeing life through her eyes ... being a new Nanna ... photos ... inspiring quotes ... taking on a cookery course ... the odd recipe ... and trying to get some stitching done amongst all this ...
