Stoessi's Heroes - New Releases

Stoessi's Heroes offers four new WW2 characters:

Hans–Ulrich Freiherr von Luck und Witten (15 July 1911 – 1 August 1997), usually shortened to Hans von Luck, was a German officer in the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany during World War II.
Luck served with the 7th Panzer Division and 21st Panzer Division.
He saw action in Poland, France, the Soviet Union, North Africa and finally in Normandy where he was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross for the fierce resistance that he put up during the Allied Operation Goodwood.
Luck is author of the book Panzer Commander.
Schuh and Funk were working together as a machine gun crew on the Western Front with the special SS unit, SS-Panzer-Division “Hitlerjugend” in the summer of 1944. Both were given the Iron Cross for knocking out a Canadian Churchill tank with just an MG-42 machine gun. With no other weapon at their disposal, they aimed tracer rounds at a fuel tank on the Churchill and took out the enemy tank. While Funk survived the war and passed away in 2011, Schuh was killed in action in June 1944.
Gert Fröbe plays Unteroffizier Kaffeekanne (”coffee pot”) in the movie “The Longest Day”. He is one of the first German soldiers to see the massive allied invasion fleet with his own eyes…
Lauri Allan Törni, later known as Larry Thorne, was a Finnish Army captain who led an infantry company against the Soviet Union in the Finnish Winter and Continuation Wars and moved to the United States after World War II. He fought under three flags: Finnish, German (when he again fought the Soviets in World War II), and American (where he was known as Larry Thorne) when he served in U.S. Army Special Forces in the Vietnam War.

Stoessi's Heroes - New Releases

Two new WW2 characters are available from Stoessi's Heroes:

German Haupsturmführer Fritz Klingenberg
Fritz Klingenberg was a German officer in the Waffen-SS who served with the SS Division Das Reich and was a commander of the SS Division Götz von Berlichingen. He was best known for his role in the capture of the Yugoslavian capital, Belgrade for which he was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross.
In April 1941, the Germany Army invaded Yugoslavia and then Greece. Klingenberg, a company commander in the Das Reich division, led his unit to the capital, Belgrade, where a small group in the vanguard accepted the surrender of the city on 13 April. A few days later Yugoslavia surrendered.

Soviet Cook Ivan Pavlovich 91st Tank RegimentServing as a cook for the 91st Tank Regiment of the Red Army, Ivan was cooking dinner one day in August 1941 when he noticed a German tank which had stalled in reach of the field kitchen. He was alone. Grabbing a rifle and an axe, Ivan waited for the crew to start to exit the tank. When they got out, Pavlovich charged, and the crew, seeing an axe-wielding Soviet running toward them, quickly got back into the tank and opened fire. Pavlovich climbed onto the tank and bent the machine gun barrel with his axe, then blinded the tank with a tarp and ordered his imaginary comrades to pass him an imaginary grenade. At this point the four man crew surrendered.

Stoessi's Heroes - New Releases

Stoessi's Heroes added two new WW2 characters to their range:

British Army Brigadier John Ormsby Evelyn ‘JOE’ Vandeleur
As Commanding Officer of 3rd Battalion Irish Guards he led the breakout of XXX Corps during Operation Market-Garden. In the movie “A bridge too far” he is played by the famous actor Michael Caine:
Lt. General Horrocks:[…] “The Irish Guards, under the command of Colonel Vandeleur, will take the lead.”
Lt. Colonel J.O.E. Vandeleur: [whispering to his adjutant] “Christ, not us again.”
Lt. General Horrocks: [Hearing Vandeleur’s statement to his adjutant] “What do you say to that, J.O.E?”
Lt. Colonel J.O.E. Vandeleur: [getting up from his chair and addressing General Horrocks] “Uh, delighted, sir. Truly delighted.”
US Airborne Major Julian Aaron Cook
Julian Aaron Cook gained fame during WWII for his crossing of the Waal river during Operation Market Garden in 1944. As Cook’s first wave began their crossing, the wind blew away the smokescreen, leaving the men in the water open and visible to the German guns. As a Catholic, Cook loudly recited Hail Mary during the crossing, spurring his men on under the withering fire. He took charge of the boats and pushed the men along. Once ashore, they cleared the river bank, assaulted the railway bridge over the highway leading to the main road bridge in the village of Lent. Cook was subsequently awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
