FASA Games is pleased to announce Earthdawn: Fourth Edition, coming in 2014.Link: Fasa Games
For the past twenty years, Earthdawn has built a loyal fan base as an original and engrossing fantasy gaming experience. As the game enters its third decade, we are taking the opportunity to update the game, revisiting the core systems to find a balance between the game’s legacy and more recent developments in game design.
We are also taking this opportunity to advance the game’s timeline. Earthdawn: Fourth Edition will be set about five years after the end of the Second Theran War. The Therans have largely been driven from the province of Barsaive. Throal has narrowly avoided civil war and has turned inward. The Denairastas clan continue their plans to dominate the province. And the Horrors, as always, lurk in the darker places, feeding on the pain, fear, and uncertainty the war left in its wake. More than ever, the world needs heroes.
In preparation for the release of the Player’s Guide and Gamemaster’s Guide—currently slated for Summer 2014 release—plans are under way for a Kickstarter campaign in early 2014 to fund the printing and new artwork for the core books.
Development is also under way on new, original sourcebooks -- the first since 2011. Currently in the works are books about the city of Travar, a closer look at the Passions and their Questors, and the elven nations outside Barsaive.
1879 is a steampunk miniature war game and roleplaying game based on an alternate history of Victorian-era Britain. At the Great Silver Exhibition of 1876, a scientist of dubious repute attempts to show off his latest invention. An explosion causes him and all his equipment to disappear, leaving only a glowing, disc-like display. This turns out to be a portal to another world. By 1879, the forces of the British Empire have established a beachhead on this world and have just encountered the first sentient life. Calling themselves the Samsut, they have a thing or two to say about British plans for their world. 1879 explores the politics and intrigue on Earth of the discovery of this unprecedented portal and the military, scientific, and technological campaign to subdue a new world through the front door outside London.
A great deal was discussed about the genre, the style of play, the mechanics, and the look and feel of the game. As the discussion evolved, excitement grew over the project, and the desire to work together brought up the question: “Why not work together under the FASA banner?” Jeff Laubenstein (formerly an Art Director at FASA Corporation), and several associates from RedBrick and the greater game community, thought this was an amazing idea and the decision was made to go ahead.
Ross Babcock and Dawn Sutton are both on the company Board of Directors.
Jeff Laubenstein is our Art Director and is excited to create new worlds with us at FASA Games, Inc. He brings with him a stable of artists he has worked with over the years, as well as new talent he has recently discovered.
Mark Stout heads up the 1879 project as Line Developer, as well as continuing to manage the Blue Planet game line.
Todd Bogenrief is the Line Developer for Fading Suns and Noble Armada, and will further advance that game lines.
James Sutton (on top of his other duties as company President) and Steven Black will be expanding the Earthdawn game line to include the upcoming 2nd, 6th, and 8th Worlds games, along with work on Demonworld.
Sean Patrick Fannon joins us to handle company marketing and promotion, and also in an authorial capacity for our game lines.
And you can expect to see more new (and familiar) faces joining us in due course.
