Break! Simon Phillipson - NASA's Apollo Program: VII – XVII Coffee Table Book Kickstarter

Compeletly unrelated, but cool:

Alongside a carefully chosen selection out of more than 15,000 photographs from missions VII to XVII, with approximately 25 to 30 pictures per mission, we will start the book with a section where we celebrate the great photographers that these astronauts were and the team behind them who made it all possible. This section will tell you more about what was essentially a crash-course into becoming a photographer in space, rarely getting a second chance to shoot your images. The book will also talk about the cameras, like the Hasselblad 500 EL, that were specifically adapted for the use in space.

Extra Life Update - 24 Hours

Well, that was interesting. I guess there are only very few things you can do for 24 hours and still enjoy at the end ;)
Kingdoms of Amalur has a very slow start and way to much dialog, so I didn't make it very far. Not sure if I will keep playing it in the near future.

You can still support me, just visit Tabletop Fix page on Extra Life to donate if you want to enter the draw!  Click here for details.

Now I'll sleep for a couple of hours and then we talk about toy soldiers again!

Extra Life Update - 21 Hours

The end is nigh!
I finished Forza Horizobs 2 at around 4 AM and now I am playing Kingdoms of Amalur. But that's a bit slow at the start, so far I mostly listened to NPC explaining stuff. Well, I guess I can spend another 3 hours playing it ;)

See you in 3 hours.

Extra Life Update -18 Hours

Oh yeah, 3AM and I am really hitting the wall. I am tired and my fingers start to feel funny from pushing buttons for hours. Anyway, only a little bit more.

I won't bore you with more details about my progress this time, I think there are 3 races left.

And the Knotfest stream helps to keep me awake - Carcass and Testament in the past hours, with Hatebreed, Anthrax and Slipknot still coming.

See you in 3 hours (if I am still awake...).

Extra Life Update - 15 Hours

It's now modnight over here and I think the worst part is just about to start. At least I figured out that there is a live stream from Knotfest so I don't have to listen to the same dozen tracks playing on the in-game "radio" any more \m/
I am still playing Forza Horizon 2 (not quite sure why...) and finished the Pro Tour. Now I am halfway through the first  Championship of the Champion Tour. Only 15 more races and I beat the game ;)

Statistics:
Top Speed: 343,3 km/h
Driven distance: 819 km

Extra Life Update - 12 Hours

Yay, halfway through! That means I'll only have to do the same thing again!
That means I'll still have to do it all over again...
Well, I might switch to World of Tanks or Kingdoms of Amalur for a while just to mix things up a bit. But I have won the first championship of Pro-Tour and found more cars - for example the Renault Alpine A110 1600 S I learned to love and the Maserati Tipo 61, my new most expensive car.

Anyway, here are the new statistics:
Top Speed: 343,3 km/h
Driven distance: 729 km
Average speed: 114,1 km/h
Progress total: 38,3%
Cars owned: 15
Value of all cars: 4.468.500 Credits

Extra Life Update - 9 Hours

And just in time for my dinner break I won teh Amateur Championship - sadly not undefeated, there was one race I just couldn't win. But I'll go back and correct this little flaw later ;)
But I noticed that I'm getting a bit bored by car racing - I actually caught myself commenting the race out loud like a sport's commentator on TV ;)

Anyway, here are the new statistics:
Top Speed: 294,7 km/h
Driven distance: 571 km
Average speed: 112,8 km/h
Progress total: 33%
Cars owned: 9
Value of all cars: 1.876.304 Credits
EP total: 271.989
Most expensive car: Ferrari 250 GT

And a big "Thank you" for the new donations - much appreciated!

Extra-Life Update 2 - 6 Hours

I'm afraid I'll have to ditch the Acura soon, I won the last race with 0.082 seconds lead ;).
I'm still in the third championship and won 3 of the 4 races so far. Beside that I did a lot of "side-quests" - discovered 3 more cars in barns, won ashow- race against a helicopter, drove on 171 of 341 roads and tried some of the challenges, but OMG those are hard! I also repeated some races in a different division (Dirt instead of Sports Car).

Statistics:
Top Speed 294,7 km/h
Driven distance: 370 km
Average speed: 104,8 km/h
Progress total: 16,7%
Cars owned: 8
Value of all cars: 1.812.304 Credits
EP total: 129.852
Most expensive car: Ferrari 250 GT

Extra-Life Update 1 - 3 Hours

After 3 hours of Forza Horizons 2 I have won the first two championships undefeated, unlocked 7 achievemnets, finished 7,9% of the game, own 3 cars worth 173.700 Credits, earned 75.450 XP, found a Lamborghini in a barn, reached a maximum speed of 263,1 km/h, drove 290 km, made a 59,6 m jump and earned 8.640 EP in my highest combo.

My favorite car so far is a completely tuned Acura Integra Type-R, the other 2 are a BMW Z4 sDRive35is and a Dodge Charger SRT8.

See you in 3 hours!

Madness? THIS… IS… EXTRA-LIFE!

Hello everybody,
If you follow my blog on a regular base you already know that I am participating in this year's Extra Life charity. That means I'll be playing video games for 24 hours to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.

As being based in Germany I decided to play from 9AM on saturday, October 25th till 8AM on sunday, October 26th.
"Wait a moment", you might think, "that's not 24 hours!"
In fact, it is. We are changing back from Summer Time (aka Daylight Saving) tonight so I'll play from 2AM to 3AM twice.

Anyway, what does that mean?
Well, no miniatures related updates for the next 24 hours. Instead I'll try to keep you entertained by regular status reports of my progress (in gaming) and/or decline (in mental capacity).

Additionally, if you want to support me by donating to the cause, please visit Tabletop Fix page on Extra Life.
By doing so you'll enter a draw in which you can win one of two boxes of miniatures from my collection. Click here for details.

For a start I'll be playing Forza Horizon 2 on the Xbox360.

See you later,
Falk

Break! Truceful Entertainment - Fritz: A Video Game About World War One

Truceful Entertainment is running a Kickstarter for Fritz: A Video Game About World War One which you should check out:

Fritz is a narrative RPG with brutal real-time combat about life in the trenches of the First World War. You play as Fritz, a German soldier on the Western Front. Most of the gameplay is comprised of everyday activities like guard duty, getting food, and talking to your fellow soldiers. Attacks are sparse, but deadly and challenging.
The main aspect of the game is character development, both of Fritz and of his comrades. Each of them is shaped by interaction with others and the things they're going through. Your comrades can die practically randomly during attacks, but the longer they survive, and they closer they get to Fritz, the better their chances of survival as everyone helps each other.

Completely Unrelated - ARKYD: A Space Telescope for Everyone

Planetary Resources launched a Kickstarter campaign to crowd-fund for the first space telescope controlled by the public.

Here's where we need YOUR help: The proceeds from this campaign will go to several different areas: 1) To actually launch the satellite into space. 2) To support the spacecraft over its lifetime — including manpower to facilitate the photos, "selfies", monitoring the spacecraft and training the staff at the chosen science center that will take over control. 3) To create an easy-to-use Control Interface that will allow ANYONE to access and control the satellite. 4) To fund the creation of an incredible, interactive educational experience that can be used by schools anywhere, to enable students to experience space in a way that's never been possible.
And did I mention that you will be able to send a picture into orbit, have it displayed on a screen and get back a picture from the maintenance camera of the craft? Awesome!

Break! Completely Unrelated: NASA found new form of life on earth

Hello Geeks & Nerds, time for some education!

NASA gave a big press conference today, announcing that they found a bacterium which is able to substitute phosphorus with arsenic.

"Whoop–de–do", you might think.

Well, for EVERY other known life form phosphorus is essential. It's one of the main buildings blocks of cell components. DNA has a phosphorus-backbone. ATP, the main storage of energy in every cell, is adenosine-tri-phopshate.

This is BIG.
