Is it time for a BBQ?

It sure is!  Just popping in to share with you my Lili of the Valley DT card I made that's just right for the fabulous sunny weather we are still experiencing here in the South East corner of England...

BBQ time!  I love this fella!  He is called Just One More which is so perfect for BBQs - I can never just have a sausage, it's gotta also be the burger, a couple of ribs and even a little lamp chop!  I'm feeling fat just thinking about it!  The Swiss Dots ribbon is from the Crafty Ribbons shop and I used my Quickutz embossing folder for a bit of interest in the background.

I'm off now - thanks for visiting!

Wednesdays Trends: using negative die cuts

(Please scroll down for my All That Scraps DT post!)

Hi everyone, it's Mary J here with this week's Wednesday trends.  Today I want to show you ways to use the "negative" pieces from die cutting.  I've been using this technique more and more recently as I love my dies but wanted to get more out of them.  You may want to get a cup of tea and settle in as I have a few examples to show you!

So, first up is this very simple form of this technique...

You know, I think this is one of my most favourite images EVER!  This cheeky monkey is from the Jungle Out There set by illustrator Melyssa Connolly.  As you can see, I simply lined up a couple of die clouds using low tack tape on a piece of white cardstock, put it through my die cutting machine and then popped it on foam pads over some blue patterned paper for extra depth.  I then layered a couple more cloud die cuts to create a bit more interest.  I am entering this card into the Simon Says anything goes challenge.

Now on my second card (using the same Jungle Out There set) I did a similar thing but I first die cut the label, used a wood grain stamp on it and then die cut the leaves.  The trick here is to keep the die as simple as possible otherwise intricate die cuts can get "lost" in the patterns.

So I have one more example to show you.  This time I used the beautiful Blossom By Blossom set by illustrator Torico.  I die cut a large flower from a piece of white cardstock and then ran it through my machine with an embossing folder to create more interest...

Well I hope I have inspired you to try this technique to get more from your dies.  If you have any other way you use this technique, please leave me a comment here with a link to your project as I would love to see it!  See you tomorrow with my Bellarific Babe card - ttfn!

Paddling in my pool

It's time for some Tuesday Inspiration over at By Lori Designs!  Summer is just around the corner (although I am still waiting for our Spring!) so what better way to get ready for the pool than a summery card?

This is Lollipop Baby Pool Sam - isn't he a darling?!  So cute!  I matched him up with Echo Park paper and added some clouds because we don't really get clear blue skies in the UK!

Okay, check out more Tuesday Inspiration over at the blog here!

Another steampunk make!

I didn't get a chance to complete my card in time for the new challenge over at Pixie Dust Studios this week, but there's still time for you to join in!  This week the challenge is steampunk - not my strongest style, but I came up with this...

Not a piece of metal in sight!  Still, I managed the distressing and lots of inking at least!  I love Max Takes Off from the Steampunk collection - just look at his cheeks - ya just wanna pinch them, don't cha?!!  I used papers from the Glitz Design French Kiss pad and brown and black chalk inks around the edges.  You can see more funky steampunk inspiration over at the Take the Pixie challenge blog!

Okay, that's it from me for now, enjoy the rest of your weekend and see you tomorrow with my card for Make It Monday!

Make It Monday sponsored by sponsored by My Mum's Craft Shop!

It's Monday so a new linky party has opened over at Make It Monday!  As usual, it's anything goes, just show us your creativity!  I'm in the Halloween mood still so here's another spooky make by me using the Cute Kitty digi image by Your Next Stamp...

A Cute Kitty indeed!  I matched her (cos she's too cute to be a boy kitty!) up with My Minds Eye Mischievous papers and those are felt stars to add to the texture.  This card was so much fun to make!  But back to the linky party!

This week we are sponsored by My Mum's Craft Shop.

The fabulous prize being offered this week is a £10 Gift Voucher!

And now my pick of of last week's entries.  My choise is this beautiful Halloween card by Cathy of Fong Crafty Place....

I just love Cathy's make, her inking is fabulous, her shading outstanding and that touch of green really lifts the whole creation - fantastic!
