lucky me, I photographed it before it was restored.... the 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa finally has a feature in Classic Driver.com

It was at the 2012 Graystone Mansion Concours in Beverly Hills (incredible car show!) and http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2012/05/1948-ferrari-166-spyder-corsa-body-work.html is my gallery of it. Python skin seats, beautiful body, cool gauges, and Scaglietti bodywork

Well, it's going to auction now with Artcurial, at Retromobile, and  https://www.classicdriver.com/en/article/cars/worlds-fastest-python-leather-seats-come-a-unique-ferrari is the story of it. According to the auction company Deputy Director Pierre Novikoff, it represents the genesis of the fabled Scuderia Ferrari

It's been restored though, and looks splendid. If you look at the way it was in my gallery, you'll see a race car with history. If you look at the gallery with ClassicDriver.com you'll see a restored car

For example:

did they somehow restore, or replace the gauges?

or look at the seats

Cleverly they slid the seat bottom further back to hide the torn area in back, notice the dimension the seat extends forward of the seat side is much less in the restored example at bottom

but the cockpit has a much better presentation in black than faded and exposed aluminum

looks like the brake handle was replaced. Zero personality, too machine like in it's perfection, unlike the original that looks like great old Italian metal workers made it quickly, and went racing that afternoon

Well, there you are, as raced, or restored. Where ClassicDriver states "What makes it so special is its originality and integrity — every change and modification, including those fabulous seats, has been preserved, rather than reverted back to its original form. "

I won't feed you that hogwash... I show you the before and after, and what changed.

Spinedi's 1960 250 GT SWB Scaglietti Berlinetta Competizione

Monsieur Spinedi was an amateur private racing driver, surely wealthy, judging by the models and dedication to this hobby.

He was Swiss resident in Geneva and ran in the 60's competitions such as the Cup of the Alps and the Targa de Florio in the 60's.

Andy Warhol had one rare Ferrari, he bought it only to make an art piece parody of Rolls Royce, but sold it without racing it, making art of it, or knowing how rare it was

above,  a 1955 Ferrari 857 Sport Scaglietti Spider 0588 M.

Ferrari built just four 857 Sports models, and 0588 M was the last example created.

After a brief period with the Ferrari works team, the car returned to Ferrari and Scaglietti, where it received its spider coach work on and distinctively finished with a rear upright fin, similar to that of a D-type Jaguar.

In 1956, John Edgar purchased the “new” Ferrari to add to his stable. In its first US competition outing in 1956, Jack McAfee wielded the 857S to a second place at Palm Springs. Soon thereafter, McAfee drove 0588 M, finishing third at Pebble Beach.

All this racing wore out the Ferrari mechanicals, and mechanic Jack Deren put a Chevy engine, gearbox, rear end in it. Then Oscar Kovaleski won races with it. Even beating NART Factory Team Ferrari's and private Cobras.

These initial successes kicked off a long list of significant wins for the car but by 1966, this Ferrari ended up bought Andy Warhol, for $3600, who painted the car yellow with the intention of creating a parody of the movie The Yellow Rolls-Royce,

Funny how Andy Warhol shows up here in the auto enthusiast world, isn't it!

Can you believe a Ferrari never won Best Of Show at Pebble Beach before? True

Until 2014, a post war car hadn't even won best of show in the past 55 years.

This is the 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Scaglietti Coupe of Jon Shirley, who won best of show in 2008, and he was once president of Microsoft, and remained on the board of directors until 2008. This Ferrari was designed by Sergio Scaglietti for Roberto Rossellini who comissioned it for his wife, Ingrid Bergman. It’s one of only five roadgoing versions of this racer, and was the first passenger Ferrari to be bodied by Scgalietti.

racing in the Love Bug movie, 1968

might be the same Shelby AC Cobra, most people may not realize they had tops. Different races and race tracks, but I wasn't trying to post them consecutively

above the gold Vette is the same as the below gold Vette and you can see what a strange rear body section it has

if you're a billionaire, and want an extremely rare and incredible Ferrari with a movie tie in of impeccable caliber, it is the Scaglietti '56 250 GT LWB Ferrari Berlinetta from the movie "The Love Bug"

1956 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Tour De France which was also featured alongside humble Volkswagen Beetle ‘Herbie’ in 1968 film was offered on sale for $7.5 million. Known as one of the 9 models build by the Italian automaker, it’s one of the sought-after Ferraris. This pristine example of Ferrari’s most revered berlinetta with chassis no. 0585GT was sold new to a US-based property developer and by 1965, had found its way into the hands of Walt Disney’s studio

1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa, body work by Scaglietti

I don't think I've ever seen gauges this sun faded before.

Roman numerals on the shifter handle, why not? It's Italian
the seats are Python, why not... I've seen seats of aligator
