the 1979 Porsche 924 Sebring was built to commemorate the victories at Sebring with a car that regular people could buy, so they took the absolute slowest car they sold and slapped a few stripes and stickers on it

and it was powered with an AMC Gremlin engine.

The Porsche 924 Sebring 79 is, essentially, the base-model 924, powered by the VW-designed EA831 four-cylinder, 2-liter engine that was also used in such performance luminaries as VW LT delivery vans and trucks, the 1979 DJ-series Postal Jeeps, the Audi 100, and, yes, the AMC Gremlin.

and it was built with VW parts bins stuff...

Order of Fifinella

The WASP established the Order of Fifinella, in November of 1944 at Maxwell Air Field, one month before the program was deactivated.
The purpose of the organization was to disseminate information about reemployment opportunities, to maintain communication among the WASP, and to form a unified organization to influence legislation and potential employers in aviation.
By December 20, 1944, the organization had 300 members and by 1945 there were over 700. Officers were appointed and an advisory council with representatives from all the WASP classes was established. Over time the organization grew in membership, produced bi-annual newsletters, coordinated reunions across the country, and maintained a roster for all its members.

Wally Booth, raced a '69 Super Bee for Detroit Dodge dealers, built engines for Edelbrock alongside Grumpy Jenkins, and pulled 900 Hp out of a 360 at 9k by sectioning heads, using 4 heads to make 2 with bigger ports and improved flow

there's a good article at Motor Trend, reprinted from a 2015 article from Elapsed Times magazine, and it chronicles Booth's racing history, and AMC's efforts to remain competitive (Super Stock Hurst AMX's for example, Shirley Shahan driving, trying to get Dyno Don to move over from Ford, etc)

Booths incredible drive to excel at drag racing resulted in his Hornet, of all things, beating Jack ROUSH of all drivers, in the Pro Stock final at the NHRA Gatornationals, 8.97 to 9.01 in March of 74

Booth won 5 national events, the 74 Gatornats, and in 1976, the US Nats, Sping Fall and WinterNats,

I've been a fan of hopped up Gremlins since getting a ride in Zurakowski's Gremlin X way back in A School in Groton Ct

did you know that the Gremlin was ultra stiff, and didn't rattle, because it had no hatchback or trunk lid? It had a hinged rear window instead.

And it was marketed and being nearly the same size (within a couple inches) of the VW Bug wheelbase and length

It was a lot quicker, nearly as fuel efficient, and had a tighter turning circle. Plus, it had a 21 gallon gas tank so it would go much farther per full tank

not many Chevy trucks get a photo like this... people just love a Gremlin

admit it... this is a cool looking buggy, especially due to the big n little tires.

And you Chevy truck fans can settle down, I was just pulling your chain. I know there are million more Chevy truck family photos than Gremlins.

in 1972, the oddball AMC Gremlin, in the obscure small town of Mesa Arizona, was given it's sole glorious moment when Randall Motors decided to make a special edition Gremlin, (the 401 XR) by hammering a 401 into almost 2 dozen engine bays

This one has survived nearly 50 years, and was given the Supercar Restorations full attention, and there won't be another this nice.

Hooker headers, Holley 750, Edelbrock intake, 4.10 gears

Sure, a Gremlin isn't going to be in the top 500 coolest muscle cars if you were making a list, but - when coming across this at a car show, you'll probably stop and stare at it as long as you do at any other muscle car

the Gremlin 401-XR. R for Randall, X for the trim that included body side tape stripes, body color front fascia, slotted road wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tires, bucket seats and "X" decals.
