Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day for all those out there celebrating romance.

I am always surprised at how much Supergirl showed up on mainstream stuff in the Bronze Age.

Here we see her and her then bestie Batgirl on a Valentine's Day card, talking about what a great team they are together.

I love this version of World's Finest so seeing the two together on something like a school Valentine is fantastic. I can only hope that their friendship, rekindled recently, remains intact and revisited.

As for Supergirl, we know that in the Silver Age, her falling in love ... often with the wrong people ... was well-trod soil. She had her standard beaus - Comet, Jerro, Brainiac 5, and Dick Malverne. And then all the villains, unscrupulous aliens, and criminals who want to marry her.

The current Kara was just on the verge of a romantic relationship with Ben Rubel when that take on the character was shelved for the space-story unfolding now.

Anyways, Happy Valentine's Day!

Supergirl Valentine's

Happy Valentine's Day to all who celebrate!

I was pretty thrilled to see Supergirl appearing on a Valentine's Card when I was shopping the other day. This is in a pack of Valentine's meant to be handed out in schools, one of 4 stickers included in the pack.

This is a bit of a giddy find for me. We live in a time when Supergirl is popular enough to be one of four characters highlighted in the pack. Amazing. This seems to be some standard merchandise image because it looks very similar to the Supergirl on the Chef Boyardee pasta can.

Amazing. Supergirl on Valentine's cards and pre-fab pasta cans.

Hope you have a high-flying day!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

Enjoy the hugs and kisses and ups and downs of everyone's favorite comic couple ... Supergirl and Brainiac 5!!!

Throughout their history, Brainy has always had a hard time dealing with his emotions and therefore sometimes clams up, seems distant, or awkward. But it is clear that he loves Kara.

He fell in love with her on first sight way back in Action Comics #276!

There was some crushing and hand holding. But back in Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #204, Supergirl decides to leave the Legion for some time. But maybe ... maybe ... if she returns they will pick up where they left off!

Grell drew a beautiful Supergirl and there is passion in that kiss!

Paul Levitz brought Kara back into the Legion for a couple of adventures where Kara tries to reignite the romance. Here in Legion of Super-Heroes #303, they fight the Dark Circle and Emerald Empress. And there is a lot of tension and some quick smooches ...

But this was all too brief ...

She later returns in Tales of the Legion of Super-Heroes #314 and seems much more open about her feelings for Brainy. And he, as usual, has a hard time talking about his feelings

And the story ends in Tales of the Legion of Super-Heroes #315 where Kara again seems confused about this relationship and her place in time. As in SLSH #204, she decides to leave.

The Crisis happened shortly thereafter.

But you can't keep them apart for too long, even if the incarnations change!

In Supergirl Annual #2, a new Brainiac 5 gets smitten with the Linda Danvers Earth Angel Supergirl!

And in a different Supergirl Annual #2, a different Kara has feelings for Brainy and decides it is up to her to make the first move. That's a super-kiss!!!

We haven't seen a Brainy/Kara romance with the New 52 Supergirl. But with the Legion and the JLU teaming up, we'll need to see if the sparks fly!

Hope everyone has a love-filled day!!!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! Hopefully this is a day filled with romance, roses, and fun.

The holiday has pushed back this week's reviews but I couldn't help but re-post this Supergirl valentine recently put up on the DC website. It is one of several Valentine's day cards utilizing Art Baltazar and Franco's art. I am glad that Tiny Titans will be coming back. I still miss Superman Family Adventures.

Here is the link if you want to see the rest: http://www.dccomics.com/blog/2014/02/06/super-awesome-valentines-days-cards

While the Supergirl one is great, I will admit that this Bizarro one is my favorite. It is perfect!

Happy Valentine's Day

I have always loved this Valentine.

It is a great classic Supergirl in the hot pants costume. And the fact she is paired with the Flash is so interesting given the Crisis awaiting both. Why would these two be teamed up on a Valentine's Day card?

Anyways, hope you all have a Happy Valentine's Day!

And glad there are so many friends on this site.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

On this day for romance, I thought I would share this page of 'Supergirl's Boyfriends' from Superman Family #177. Now certainly there have been a lot more men vying for Supergirl's heart throughout her history. Even in this issue, an alien named Ranar feels that Supergirl has been destined to be his mate.

Still, these guys have seemed to stand the test of time.

Brainiac 5 will always have a connection to Supergirl, most recently rekindled by Sterling Gates during the War of the Supermen and Supergirl Annual #2. I think there is a strong contingent of fans who would love to see these two together.

Dick Malverne was around through the Silver Age and into the Bronze. His story was wrapped up in the Tim Sale Solo issue. Peter David then brought back a new Dick Malverne in his run on Supergirl. His story ended tragically as well.

The romance of Biron/Comet in the Silver Age was a bit offbeat to say the least. Still, he did try his best to court her when in his human form. Comet was also brought back in Peter David's Supergirl, this time as a woman, Ande Jones.

I hope everyone out there can find such long lasting love on Valentine's Day!

These early issues of Superman Family (which took over the numbering of Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen) were mostly reprinted material. But there was new stories done in a rotating manner. You could tell who had the new material by however was on top of the column of characters on the left (and whoever had the 'big' picture on the cover).

In the Supergirl issues, they always included some page like the boyfriend one, sort of reviewing Supergirl's history. Other pages include reviews of Lena Thorul's history and a list of Kara's rogues.

Happy Valentine's Day

I am pretty busy today with Mrs. Anj and the three super-girls at home.

I hope everyone has a great and romantic day.

Reviews for Action Comics #874 and R.E.B.E.L.S. #1 will be up soon.
