"Sea King" Halloween Costume

I guess Aquaman really has made it, because apparently he's now so popular that there's money in ripping the concept off! This is totally not an Aquaman costume, it's a "Sea King" Halloween outfit, complete with pointy gold thing (not a trident).

This Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Halloween costume is a little snug on me now, but I'll fit into by the time the movie comes out. #SquadGoals

Aquaman Halloween Costume

sgsg
I stole this graphic from SpidermanCollector.net back around November of last year, and I've been waiting all this time to use it! I believe this is from a newspaper article on Halloween costumes, featuring Aquaman in the coolest super-team ever!

Aqua-Halloween Post Script

sg
Better late than never, this is newest F.O.A.M.er Cameron Queener decked out as Aquaman for Halloween, alongside his girlfriend who's dressed, of course, as Mera!

Cameron sent this in a few weeks ago, and making him wait a whole year to become a FOAMer seemed cruel, so here you go. Nice job Cameron, and welcome to F.O.A.M.!

Aquaman (Vol.5) Annual #4 - 1998

sg
It's Halloween--time for a spooky superhero blog crossover!

All across teh interwebs today, various superhero blogs are covering their particular characters from a Halloween-esque perspective, and the Aquaman Shrine is joining in the fun!

In our case, we're covering Aquaman Annual #4, which itself was part of a theme across several DC annuals--"Ghosts." As we all know, the Sea King has a lot of ghosts in his past...
sg
sg
sg
sg
Arthur Jr.'s ghost disappears as quickly as it appeared, which (of course) enrges Aquaman. He's sure he wasn't imagining it, and assumes this is someone's demented joke. He takes off, looking to draw this person out into the open.

Meanwhile, in another part of the city, a woman who murdered her husband is also visited by a ghost...of the very man she killed! She "kills" him again, convinced this is all a nightmare. Another ghost--in the form of Atlantean mytic Shalako--also appears at a church function. What's going on?
sg
sg
Vulko and Koryak also come across some ghosts, in this case taking the form of Honsu the Conqueror and Prince Kraken, who are busy beating up some royal guards. After making a speech, Honsu asks them all to help in their fight against the surface world--which is met with enthusiastic support, even from Vulko and Koryak!

Tempest is also visited by the ghost of Tula, aka Aquagirl, who asks if he would be with her again if she were alive again. "In a heartbeat", he answers.

Meanwhile, Aquaman confers with Orin the First, who reveals that the various ghosts of the original Atlanteans have come back to try and affect the living. Aquaman, naturally want to bring the fight, but Lorelei says that perhaps if the current residents of Atlantis are so easily whipped into a mob, maybe there's no point in saving them. She has...other ideas how to spend the time:
 sg
Dear Atlantis Forum: I never thought this would happen to me, but...

As Arthur, Orin, and Lorelei make Frederic Wetham spin in his grave, the ghosts who have been popping up across Atlantis start making their various pitches: Shalako's is more war-like, while Tula plays on Garth's undying love for her.

Meanwhile, back at the AquaCave:
 sg
Aquaman and Orin bring the fight to the other Atlantean ghosts, while trying to talk sense into the crazed mob. Orin takes on his brother Shalako, and using their two-pronged attack, defeat them all, just as the sun rises and the darkness of night fades.

Unfortunately, there is still one ghost left:
 sgsgsg
As the book says, The End? Who can really say, when you're talking about ghosts?

Happy Aqua-Halloween, Part 6!

sg
And yet another new F.O.A.M. member! This is David Bridges wearing a slightly more militarized-looking Aquaman costume. I think you can tell from David's expression this Aquaman means business.

David also sent this, which made me laugh:
sg
...The Trench doesn't stand a chance!

Thanks David, Happy Halloween and welcome to F.O.A.M.!

Happy Aqua-Halloween, Part 5!

sg
Still more Halloween pics coming in! This is F.O.A.M.er Lee Pigliavento rocking an Aquaman suit (love that belt!) alongside Wonder Woman.

Great pic Lee, Happy Halloween and thanks!

Happy Aqua-Halloween, Part 4!

sg
sg
Yet another new F.O.A.M. member dressed as Aquaman this year--this time its Charlie Clouse, showing what a 3D Aquaman movie might be like.

Great pic Charlie, Happy Halloween and welcome to F.O.A.M.!

Happy Aqua-Halloween, Part 3!

sg
This is newest F.O.A.M. member Joel McKenna, dressed as Aquaman along with his loyal dog/shark sidekick!

Great pic Joel, Happy Halloween and welcome to F.O.A.M.!

Happy Aqua-Halloween, Part 2!

sg
This is F.O.A.M.er Michael Sander, who sent me this pic months ago. I wanted to hold on to it until Halloween (or, er, the day after), so thanks your patience Michael!

He explains exactly what's happening in this pic: "
I've been an Aquafan since childhood when I watched the old 60's cartoons on TV. Back in 1986 I was a senior in high school and I decided to be Aquaman for Halloween. Here is a picture (the amateur photographer cut off my head)." Tragic!

Thanks Mike, and Happy Halloween!

Happy Aqua-Halloween!

sg
This is F.O.A.M.er Christopher Svara, all decked out as the Sea King for Halloween! I love the giant "A" belt, its got a real wrestling vibe to it.

Great costume, thanks Chris!

JLA: Lexington

sg
sg
This is our newest F.O.A.M. member, Andrew Kapellusch, dressed as the Sea King for Halloween 2007, along with other friends who went as the other members of the Justice League (or, as Andrew likes to call it, Justice League: Lexington).

But not only that, but Andrew sent an original painting he did of his pug, Walnut, also dressed as Aquaman:
sg
Apparently this is the first of a set; Andrew plans to do another painting of their other dog, Dini (named after Paul), dressed as Aqualad.

(Not that Andrew knew this, but there is no surer way to get into F.O.A.M. than to work in your pet somehow. As someone who has a real thing for animals, seeing the love someone has for their dog, cat, gerbil, etc. really warms the cockles of my occasionally-Grinch-sized heart.
)

Anyway, I loved seeing this stuff, and its definitely F.O.A.M.-worthy material--thanks Andrew, and welcome to the club!

Aquaman for Halloween

sg
This awesome Aqua-suit is worn by our newest F.O.A.M.er, John Coplen. John sent it to me yesterday and while I was tempted to hold onto it until next Halloween. But I didn't want to make John wait so long to see this on the Shrine, and since many of us still have uneaten holiday candy around the house...

Nice suit, John, and welcome to F.O.A.M.!

Aquaman, International Businessman

sg
This "Aquaman, International Businessman" costume is being worn by F.O.A.M.er extraordinaire Russell Burbage, for a contest held at work.

Russell won third place, behind a Johnny Depp Mad Hatter costume and a Naavi from Avatar. Not a bad showing considering the relative subtlety of the costume, in idea and execution. Bonus points for the stuffed shark in the suitcase.

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween, and thanks Russell!

Aqua-Lantern

sg
This Aquaman-themed Jack O'Lantern is the handiwork of F.O.A.M.er Kyle Bartow, in between ones made by his wife and mother-in-law. A real family effort!

Thanks Kyle!

Aquaman Halloween Parade

sg
This adorable of Li'l Aquaman is courtesy new F.O.A.M.er Susie Felber, who says, "My son is Aquaman mad (he just turned 4), and insisted he hadda be it for Halloween."

Susie made the costume herself, and adds, "I'm not crafty and you'd be amazed at the random items I was ordering from Amazon or pulling from closets to make it happen."

As stitched-together it may have been, I think it looks great (love the blond wig) and if I had ever worn a costume that cool as a tyke my head would have exploded. I also love how Aquaman is teaming-up with Ironman to lead the Halloween parade, with (appropriately), Spongebob Squarepants also joining in the fun.

A great job and a great photo, thanks so much Susie and welcome to F.O.A.M.!

Happy Halloween 2010!

sg
Since today is Halloween, I thought I'd forgo the usual Comics Weekend post in favor of some spooooky Aquaman stuff, like this photo from F.O.A.M.er Chris Marshall, who dressed one of the skeletons on his front yard in an Aquaman t-shirt.

Appropriate, since orange is such a Halloween-ish color. Thanks Chris!

The Shrine will be posting more Halloween-related stuff as the day goes on, check back soon!

Halloween 2009

sg
Halloween 2009 shots are still coming in--this one is from our newest F.O.A.M. member, David Wendkos!

Here's what David had to say about the custom-made costume: "I didn't really like the costumes I could find around on the internet, so I decided to make my own.

The top started as an UnderArmour top, which I had someone airbrush to add the scales. The blue hand is a latex surgical glove. The bottoms are green tights. I used iron-on velcro on it, then used yellow foam with sticky velcro to create the belt. (I want to come up with a better version before next time I wear it.)

The blond/gold hair is a wig and one of my least favorite parts of the outfit. I intend on finding a better one between now and next Halloween. Overall, though, it was fun to make."

It's a great suit--the scales and the blue hand two especially nice touches! Thanks for the pic David and welcome to F.O.A.M.!
