Aquaman Album #4

You all know I love seeing international editions of Aquaman comics, but this cover is truly testing that theory. This is from publisher K.G. Murray, which handled reprints of DC books for the Australian market.

International Editions: Adventure Comics

As anyone who reads the Shrine knows, I love international editions of DC Comics! This version of Adventure Comics #466 hails from Australia (which is where Murray Comics was located). As we know from previous posts, the Sea King was a pretty big draw down under, so even though Superman's name is at the top, it's still Aquaman who is front and center!

Mammoth Annual

A few days ago on Brian Cronin's Comic Book Legends Revealed column, he posted some stuff about how Aquaman had never appeared on a comic book cover before Brave and the Bold #28, the debut of the JLA--almost twenty years after he debuted in 1941.

But! As some Aqua-Fans know, that statistic only stands for American comic books. He often appeared on the covers to Australian reprint collections in the 1950s, like what you see above. The Shrine has posted a few of these before, and they're always very fun and festive, again like what you see above. Maybe the Golden Age Aquaman had a bigger following down under than he did in his home country?

International Cover: Greece

Submitted via our FB page, here's a Greek edition of DC Comics Presents #5! All hail Akoyaman!

This seems to be issue #48 of this series, which, ironically enough, also guest-starred Aquaman over in the United States.

Justice League of America #192 Around The World

sgsgsg
At top is the classic cover to Justice League of America #192 by George Perez. Below are two international versions, featuring Batman and, improbably, Red Tornado as the marquee character.

If that's not odd enough, check out Aquaman on the Red Tornado cover--it looks as though someone didn't really understand what they were looking at, and added a whole section of anatomy that should not be there! To make matters worse, the orange doesn't match, meaning this particular Sea King is rocking a two-tone tunic. Great Neptune!

International Covers Part 5

sgsgsgsgsg
More awesome international Aquaman covers from F.O.A.M.er Chance van Pelt. This time, I thought we'd focus on the ones that feature custom-drawn covers--a couple are riffs on the originals, of course, but the first three seem to spring completely from the imagination of whoever did them. What, exactly, is going on in that third one?

Thanks again Chance!
