We’re in full bloom for Spring with my new fabricista feature for this month! I’m kicking off the season with one of my favorite Spring KnowMe patterns ME2027. This Fabric Mart viscose challis fabric is the perfect fabric for Spring and I love a floral on a black background. It’s giving me bold retro vibes and I'm definitely here for it. When you think of Spring you think of florals, colors and lighter weighted fabrics. This fabric is giving it all. I love the bold large scale print flowers up against the black canvas. The fabric is viscose challis fabric so it has a natural soft drapey feel to it which makes it great for spring dresses, skirts, jumpers and blouses.  For this project I chose to create a version of my KnowMe Spring 2023 Jumpsuit pattern. It had the retro vibe to compliment this fabric and I love the way it turned out. I omitted the trims for this make and made it one solid fabric. Spring has sprung once again here at Fabric Mart! Today I am sharing my newest two piece set that is hot off the press. Two piece suits are very “in” this year/season. I would also like to consider these pieces to be a classic closet staple, meaning you can truly wear this at any time & it would still be considered fashionable.  To make this outfit I chose a beautiful white rayon twill & a white polyester lining. I thought this would be perfect for the Simplicity sewing pattern S9689. The fabric itself was not at all hard to sew with. Personally, I don’t hardly choose white to create with, because I just don’t wear it too often, but it truly came out nice. The fabric does tend to wrinkle fast. For matters of this nature, I would starch press it before leaving, so that it can add longevity to the garment.  The Simplicity pattern S9689 was not hard to sew for me, but maybe more Intermediate than a Beginner. I’ve been thinking a lot about waste and sustainability lately. As a cosplayer, I often create costumes for events and only wear them a few times before moving on to my next project. For this month’s Fabricista project, I wanted to create something simple that could be used for multiple cosplay looks or as regular clothing.  I chose a beautiful cherry blossom pink 100% silk shantung shirting for my fabric this time around. It’s light and airy, and perfect for a breezy ‘goddess’ inspired maxi.  Check out the video below to see how I made my piece! I created my pattern using an oversized shirt that I had in my stash and using measuring tape to plan out the length of the dress and sleeves. I used some spare newspaper to draft out my pattern pieces, and cut them out of the silk.  I first finished off the side seams on my serger, and then stitched together the sides of the dress pieces and the sleeves. When it comes to creating wardrobes for my children, I don't tend to have a theme or a plan — I see pretty fabric or an amazing pattern and I just have to make it! While this is a fun and creative outlet for me, it's not always so great for my children (or husband!) who then struggle to mix and match their wardrobe, or discover they have 100 dresses and no pants or sweaters.  Armed with a $50 budget, I decided to plan out a series of mix and match outfits for my two girls.  Fabric Mart always has so many amazing fabrics but I just couldn't go past this gorgeous aqua floral Rayon Lycra Jersey Knit! With spring on the horizon, linen seemed like a natural coordinate choice (Fabric Mart have a TON of linens , so it was easy to pick a few colors that would work!), and finally I settled on a white Rayon Lycra Jersey Knit to use as a layer. I never thought I was a floral person, I tend to be drawn to geometric or abstract patterns. However, since I've started sewing I've learned I do like some floral prints like this large scale floral liverpool knit. This print stood out to me because of how the bright orange and blue flowers stood out against the black and white flowers. It didn't hurt that I love liverpool knit. It's a spongey, stretchy double knit that has a crepe like texture on the right side and a brushed wrong side. This particular print is sold out, but check out the current selection here .

Y'all know I love dresses and I wear them year round, but they are almost all I wear in the warmer months. So to kick off the spring season I have TWO new dresses to share. I used two types of double knits for this month's post.  I love double knits because they are sturdier than jerseys or ITYs and easier to sew for most.

I loved McCalls 7577 from the very first moment I saw it in the Spring pattern release!!! So I knew I wanted to sew it up for this month's post which will go live just after the start of spring. I was drawn to this Jean Blue Floral Challis because I loved the denim look and I felt the floral print added the soft feminine touch that I love in the pattern photo. This challis is soft, light and fluid (as the denim is only a print). Thankfully it didn't unravel like crazy or shift too much while sewing which made it great to sew. Unfortunately this print is sold out but take a look at some of the other amazing challis prints and solids here . These solid or striped  linen knits  or floral crepes  would work beautifully as well due their light weight and drape.
