Made By A Fabricista: The Perfect Make!

Have you ever made the perfect dress? This pattern and fabric match was perfection! What an enjoyable sew and fun dress to wear. I made the Mabel Dress by Tilly and the Buttons in a rayon challis . OK, at first, I thought this pattern was not for me, but he milkmaid style is so popular! I tried one other pattern and I have not worn it since I completed it. Then, I saw so many beautiful Mabel makes and I wanted to try it to see how I liked it. I LOVE this pattern. TATB patterns are so well constructed and the instructions are so good that I don’t know why I hesitated. TATB patterns fit me really well. I made zero adjustments to this pattern and I really love it! I cannot wait to make another one. Have you tried shirring? It is really fun and easy! There is shirring on the sleeve and waistline, front and back. There are instructions included in the pattern on how to sew shirring. Plus, TATB includes a free video tutorial that is listed inside the pattern instructions as well. I watched...

Fabricista Guest Post: Rayon Challis and Wrap Dresses are Two of my Favorite Things to Sew!

Hello sewing friends! I am so excited to be a guest Fabricista for Fabric Mart today. I participated in the #fmwrapdresssewalong Instagram challenge Fabric Mart had in May 2023 and was randomly selected as a winner.  The sew along with Julie was so much fun that I inquired about being a Fabricista. My name is Patricia, I am a nurse, I just became a doctor last year, been married for 24 years and a mother of two! I have been sewing since I was a child. My Instagram is @Hoppaheedahoe I selected a colorful animal print rayon challis voile to make the Cashmerette Roseclair dress , view A with long, flowy tiers. Wrap dresses can be a challenge to fit so I was happy to see that Cashmerette offers a fit calculator on their website to aid in selecting a size.  I entered my measurements and made the size they recommended without any further modifications. I also compared the bodice pieces to other wrap dress patterns that I know fit me well. They matched up, so I went with Cashmerette...

Made By A Fabricista: Ready for Sun-Drenched Days with Rayon Challis Separates

Hello Sewing Friends! Summer has arrived bringing sunshine and hot, humid weather.  Where I live there are days when the heat is downright oppressive, but I still want to look stylish. That’s why I choose to use rayon challis to sew myself a few summer pieces.  It’s lightweight and breathable with a lovely drape, making it a great choice for flowing, loose, unstructured garments that are comfortable to wear in warm weather. I sewed a top as well as a matching set consisting of a top and wide-leg pants. For my top, I chose the Style Arc Selina Top sewn out of a dusty cherry blossom print rayon challis . I did make a few minor changes to the pattern.   I added a small dart, lowered the neckline making it a scoop neck, increased the narrow ruffles by 3/4”, and added an additional 2” to the back gathered section. The extra fullness in the back really showcases the drape of this fabric.   By the way, I ordered matching thread along with my fabric. I love that Fa...

Made By A Fabricista: Perfectly Periwinkle

Have you ever seen a fabric that you just can't live without but then have trouble deciding what to make with it? That is exactly what happened to me with this gorgeous periwinkle and white rayon challis.  Is half of my fabric stash and handmade wardrobe blue and white? Yes! I know I'm slightly obsessed with blue and white floral prints, but when I see another gorgeous blue and white floral print fabric I just can't stop myself from inviting it to come live with me.  The minute I saw this perfect periwinkle and white rayon challis, I jumped at the opportunity to get my hands on it for my next Fabricista blog. When my fabric arrived, I loved it, but really struggled with what to make. I probably went through about 15 different iterations of what to make with the 2 3/4 yard cut, but nothing felt right.  Finally, I decided to make a Nina Lee Kew Dress. This pattern is one that I've had on my list to make for years, and it's been patiently waiting in my pattern stash fo...

Made by a Fabricista: YouTube Edition | Marty - Let's Make a Spring Dress

Light Cornflower Blue/Fern Green/Imperial Red/Multi 100% Rayon Floral Print Challis 54W I don't have much to say about my project this time. Other than I can't be happier with how it turned out. I think it'll make a cute romantic dress for summer but also blend into the high-fantasy wardrobe that I want to create. It'll be fun to play with and explore. Hopefully, next time my life will be a little more put together and I'll be a little less stressed. But for now, I hope you all enjoy this project as much as I do. With all the chaos included. Made by a Fabricista: Youtube Edition | Dee & Dory

YouTuber's Dee & Dory are back on the Fabric Mart blog today with their most recent Fabricista Makes. Make sure to click play on the video below to hear all about their fabric choices & how their projects turned out! Dory: Just in time for the warmer weather, I made Butterick 5045 View E out of Fabric Mart Fabrics lycra print jersey knit. As soon as I saw this beautiful floral print available, I knew I wanted it!   Everything I have read says pink is in this year.  It was easy to work with, just remember that this kind of knit stretches as it hangs, so you have to wait a day or two to hem it! I have used this kind of fabric before from Fabric Mart because I love the feel and the comfort of it!  The pockets in this pattern are so fun!  I really like the pleated detail in them.  I probably should have raised them, since there is that stretch. This will for sure be a go to dress in the summertime.   Dee: Challis,Challis,Challis!  A soft ...
