Pink raspberry frosting on a cake is delicious, but this pink raspberry frosting isn't dessert. I'm talking about sewing frosting! Have you heard of "sewing cake vs. sewing frosting?" If you're new to this concept, cake sews are your clothing and wardrobe staples. While frosting sews are less practical, super fun projects to make and wear. Summer is finally upon those of us in this part of the world! June is one of my favorite months. It’s the first time it really feels like summer, it stays light outside past 8pm and it is Pride Month! Pride is a yearlong allyship in my house and I try my best to always listen, show up, see and support my friends and family in the LGTBQIA+ community. Hello darlings, We are well into fall, and here, the weather finally decides to join the party. We are in the 70’s with not much humidity and for us Floridian this is a win, YES!!!! Since we don’t get to experience the four seasons, I compensate by creating seasonal garments selecting appropriate colors and the two looks I am bringing you today speak of fall. The beauty of sewing is having that perfect picture in your head and being able to recreate it. Let’s talk about the first look for which I used this lovely Burgundy and Royal sheer chiffon. When I chose the print, I knew it was nice but when I received it, it definitely exceeded my expectations! What was I thinking about only ordering 2 yards? I make it my rule to always order a minimum of four yards, that way I can ensure I get enough for this 5.9” tall me. Happy Fall! I am so excited for the transition into fall and to share with you my October Fashionista Feature with Fabric Mart. This time of year calls for layering and transition into cooler weather with jackets, sweaters, long sleeve tops and maybe even light turtlenecks.  This may seem like a lot, but we are going to keep it transparent for this make and expose all the layers so to speak!  It’s all about the layering for the fall and I’m usually drawn to lighter weight fabrics for that reason. I love chiffons, georgettes, silks, lightweight jerseys and even mesh fabrics. These have been my favorites so when I came across these two fabrics from Fabric Mart it was fabric love at first sight. Sometimes you see a fabric and it just speaks to you. That's what happened with this fabric . And what came from it is a piece that I will love forever. The green dress is inspired by 1490's Florentine Fashion, a time period I haven't explored a lot, but it was the only time period this fabric wanted to be. And so it became.  Hey everyone! Welcome back to my second Fabric Mart Fabricista post! When I selected my fabrics, I had a completely different idea in mind for what I wanted to make. But the more I thought about it, and the closer I got to starting my project, the more I dreaded the make!  Then, my office job announced that we are going to start going back to the office 2x/week, so I decided to ditch my original plan and come up with a couple pieces that I could use for transitioning back to the office. I knew I wanted something easy to throw on that I could style a couple of different ways, which is how I settled on this neutral colored Crinkle Chiffon that I got for $1.99/yard! I used McCall #8030, View A. Making buttonholes give me heartburn enough the way it is, but the thought of trying to do it on chiffon nearly sent me to the grave… so pearl snaps to the rescue!  This pattern is meant as a dress, but with the sheer nature of the chiffon, I went for a layering top. After a year in yoga pants and sweatshirts all I want to sew are dresses. Big, over the top, wonderfully floaty dresses. I loved this fruity chiffon border print from the moment I saw it and knew it had to become one such dress. Much like florals, I absolutely adore fruit prints on fabric, so to find a fabric with both was a real treat. Chiffon is one of those fabrics a lot of sewists seem to be afraid of, and I don't blame them, it can be very tricky to work with. However, I strongly believe in doing difficult things, because the end is so worth it and you have the chance to learn new things along the way. I've only sewn with chiffon a couple times before so I decided to go with a pattern that didn't have any tricky closures and or require a lot of careful fitting.
