Made By A Fabricista: My Summer Dresses

Hello everyone! I am so happy it’s summer; it gives me energy.   I love the sunshine, the warm air, and the flowers that bloom this time of year.  This summer I want new dresses. They need to be comfortable during the summer heat.  They need to easily transition from casual day wear to an elevated evening outfit and look chic whether I am in sneakers, flats, or platform shoes.  I also want one of them will be white because I don’t own a white dress! I saw Vogue V1653 and was immediately taken by its comfortable style and the simplicity of the lapel collar.  I chose View D for its midi length and almost straight skirt.  The side seam pockets was a bonus. I would wear this dress with a sneaker around town or with platform shoes and a belt I already own for dinner with friends.  I selected Fabric Mart’s medium Persian blue 100% linen (SKU# UAA7473r ) to sew this loose-fitting dress. I favored McCall’s M7805 for its close-fitting lined bodice and midi...

Made by a Fabricista: Church Flow DIY Dress

[This outfit was made for and modeled by my daughter Mori] Hello 2017!!! We are going to start the year off with The "Church"  DIY Dress. That's what Mori calls this dress. I thought well since we are going with the whole Church Dress let's add some pearls! So I'm thinking this dress will not get a lot of air-time if you catch my drift. Now  you may remember the fabric that I used for the skirt because it was the same fabric I used for that beautiful jumpsuit below that Mori rocked this summer. Everybody loved that print and it was sold-out! [Black & White Rose Print100% Poly Ripstop Suiting is no longer available] I had a little yardage left in my stash for a rainy day. I fell in love when I saw this Pre-cut Vibrant Magenta Nylon/Lycra Suiting by Halston and I snatched up 4 yards in the hopes of making a suit. This fabric has a Scuba-like feel to it and I decided I didn't want pants out of this fabric.               ...

4th Challenge: Lady in Red Challenge - What They Made!

I was really excited about this challenge since I started thinking about what I wanted the challenges to be. And from that time on, I was on the hunt for the perfect red fabric. While I did not start working on my red dress yet, I am very inspired to try my hand at it! After you see these, you will want to make a red dress too! The guest judge for this challenge will be Laura Nash from Sew Chic Patterns! Also, I wanted to inform everyone that Beth from 110 Creations had to withdraw from the challenge due to an family emergency. We're sorry to see her go and send our well wishes to her and her family! Therefore, this week, no one is being eliminated from the challenge. But we still need to vote for who you felt made the best Red Dress!  Ann from SewBaby For my Perfect Red Dress, I used a ruby red rayon velvet and a rose printed stretch lace to create a winter dress for Valentine's Day using Vogue 2926 as my base with a few design changes of my own....

In the Studio with Laura from Sew Chic Patterns

It's been a few weeks since I wrote a post for the "In the Studio" series, but you're going to laugh when you find out why.... I have been searching high and low in my sewing room for the fabric I bought specifically to go along with my pattern of choice and I can't find it ANYWHERE!! I may have to resort in pulling out every single piece of fabric in my wardrobe just to find this 1 yard piece of a nude nylon knit. I plan on making Laura's slip pattern, Valentine Slip . I am determined to find this fabric tonight, so as soon as I get the slip done I will post my review of the pattern! As with all of the other posts in the "In the Studio" series, I start with an interview with the pattern designer. This week I have featured Laura Nash from Sew Chic Patterns . I had the opportunity to meet with her last September and we had a great chat! I am a fan of vintage-inspired garments, but I'm not always sure I can pull it off. (see this post for my ...

Inspiration: Summer Dresses

My favorite part of summer are the dresses. I love the simplicity and the way a dress can make you look pulled together and fabulous even when it is miserably hot and you just got off of the beach. (Or sweating in your car at a traffic light while imagining you were at the beach, which is more so the case for me.) My favorite summer dresses are the ones you wear out at night to go to a nice restaurant on vacation. What is your favorite summer dress?     Here are a few great picks from our handmade friends on Etsy: Michelle Tan      Tammy Jo Fashion   Fleet Collection   Hope and Jane Honey Olive    Rough Houser Inc.     Little By Me  Simply Sewphisticated
