I love knits, they were my first sewing love. Some new sewists find sewing knits tricky, but I loved that the fit was more forgiving as I was learning sizing. This month three knits spoke to me and I couldn't decide between them so I just went again and got all THREE! First up is this black and white geometric print jersey knit. Everything about this fabric made me love it; it's a rayon jersey, it's black and white and it's a geometric print. It sewed up really nicely with minimal curling at the edges. I used my serger for most of the construction, which is another thing I love about knits. My first thought was a wrap dress, which should be no surprise. My favorite wrap dress pattern is the Mathilde Wrap Dress by Untitled Thoughts . It's a true wrap, which is always a plus to me. It features a 2 sleeve options, three length (including a peplum top), a waistband, inseam pockets and ties that meet in the back.

 Animal print is almost always in style, but this fall it's especially on trend! I've got plenty of cheetah/leopard print makes, but nothing in snakeskin so when I saw this cream and black double brushed polyester (DBP) knit I had to have it. In addition to the print I love the feel of DBP, it's so soft, doesn't hold wrinkles and holds up to multiples washes! This fabric is sold out, but they have plenty of other double brushed knits online. I recently added a few (read: several) patterns to my collection thanks to an annual sale hosted by the local American Sewing Guild. This was totally accidental as I was there to donate fabric and patterns NOT buy. LOL Anyway in that lot of patterns was Vogue 8738 (OOP). I grabbed it thinking it was a jumpsuit, but its actually two pieces which is almost better as I need more separates. I usually spend my sewing time sewing up pretty little floral frocks, but I do know that one of my most worn makes ever was a pair of pants I made for this blog way back in November of 2015 . The ponte pants I made for that post have been worn all over the world and for all sorts of occasions. I knew I wanted some of that magic in a pair of shorts, so my idea for this month's post was born. When I first spied this Vogue 9189 shorts and pants pattern, a reissued pattern from 1960, I had to buy it.  It's high-waisted, long leg (on Version B) is such a unique style for shorts, and it is really hard to find shorts like this, and even harder to find ones that are long enough in both the leg AND the crotch curve to suit my frame. I knew I would definitely be altering its crotch curve to my personal curves (I still have my original pattern I altered from the November 2015 post), so I knew it would fit me no matter what.  Plus the pattern has three height variations, petite, ...

Welcome to Skirt  month over here at Fabric Mart! Some folks think that I never make mistakes or wrong choices in fabrics for my projects. Well this month was one of those moments where it just didn't work out how I planned. I picked out these two corduroy prints for this challenge. They are kinda retro and funky so I figured a little skirt would be really cute in these prints. [ Orange/Brown Print  and  Purple Print ] As you can see the colors were not matchy-matchy and I didn't know if I was going to mix them or just make two separate skirts. I played around with the fabric and different patterns and finally settled on a pattern and I mixed the prints for this skirt. I love the pattern I chose and this was my second time making the  Alberta Skirt  . Once I put the different prints together they kinda blended instead of standing apart. Hello, again! June is always one of my favorite months, I absolutely love and adore the super hot and humid weather we get in this area during our summers ( people think I am weird, I know, lol ).  But with that said, I cannot stand wearing anything clingy or not breathable during the summer months.  (I will wear poly in summer, but it has to be in a very loose garment!) When I realized that Fabric Mart had some gorgeous printed silk double georgettes ( my favorite right now! ) on their website a while back, I knew immediately that I wanted to make something in one of them for a summer sundress.  I also realized that since it was sheer, I would need an underlining of some sort, and since they had a lightweight cotton voile in a complementary color available ( this is a good choice, too ), I made sure to grab some of that, as well, so that the dress could be super lightweight and still opaque enough to wear without a slip ( eww, slips in summer, talk about clingy! )....
