Made By A Fabricista: Cozy Sewing Season

The cozy sewing season seems like it came early this year! Temperatures in Pennsylvania have been in the freezing range for weeks, so it is time to break out the flannel, sweater knits, sherpa, wool, and other warm fabrics. Fabric Mart's website is stocked with gorgeous cozy fabric perfect for sewists living in cold climates. While searching for fabric for my first cozy sew of the season, a Cranberry Plaid 100% Cotton Flannel fabric caught my eye. I loved the colors and the plaid pattern. I ordered 3.5 yards to make a button-up flannel shirt for myself, and a little extra fabric to make a button-up shirt for my son. I also ordered two packs of 10 Soft Pearl Plastic Shirt Buttons and "My Mama Made It" sewing labels from Kylie and the Machine. I envisioned one of these labels being added to the side seam of my son's shirt for a bespoke detail. Once my order arrived, I washed my fabric and reached for my Grainline Studio Archer Button-Up paper pattern. I used this pat...

Made By A Fabricista: A Seasonal Shacket

Hello everyone! I love to end the year with some new outerwear, and so here I am with a new garment to keep me warm for the next few months. This is the type of garment that sort of evades a concrete name… Chore Coat? Utility Jacket… Shacket? Anyway, regardless of what we’re calling it, this is such a great and easy, warm style to throw on and run.  As a treat and to make this project fairly effortless to begin, I gathered just about all of the necessary supplies into one order: fabric, needles, interfacing, matching thread and adorable statement clothing tags.  The fabric is a gorgeous and soft Dark Cornflower Blue Wool/Poly Flannel, and it’s not too thick or heavy, but features a nice loftiness and none of the scratchiness that sometimes occurs with wool in the mix. I broke all rules and tossed this fabric into the washing machine and dryer. The hand lost some crispness, but to me, that just makes wearing this all the cozier.  I chose some Black Cotton Shape-Flex Fusibl...

Made By A Fabricista: Sewing A Jumpsuit On The Go

This may be one of my favorite makes ever, and it is for a very special occasion! I rushed through all the steps, but it was worth it, and I am glad I pushed through. I had my eye on the Deer and Doe Sirocco Jumpsuit for a while, and when I saw this ITY fabric on the Fabric Mart website, I knew it was the right time to make it. After overcoming some logistical challenges, I have the perfect outfit for my daughter's first birthday! As usual, life has gotten in the way of my sewing plans, and I've had to get creative to complete this project. Sewing used to be part of my day to day. But lately, with too many long days and short nights, sewing projects remain on the back burner. Even sewing in the evening or on weekends is out of the question because my exhaustion surpasses my motivation, and I make too many mistakes. The only thing that keeps making my sewing mojo resurface from time to time is my commitment to Fabric Mart. I am so grateful for being a Fabricista and wish to hon...
