Goresqualor the chosen of Nurgle

Hey all, Summer isn't the best painting season for many of us but I still managed to get back behind the brushes to finish this guy I had first started as a member of my Forbidden Psalms band.

Paradygm shift : Don't feed the troll !!!

Hi everyone ! A little change this time and an unexpected one on top !
For some reason I found myself needing to paint a troll (to celebrate an event on a FB page full of them) and wondered which I could paint and if I had one at all ?
After a quick search I realized I actually had this gorgeous guy from the first Pantheon of Chaos Kickstarter :

Genestealer Ork Hybrids for Orctober !

Long time no see huh ? Well I haven't totally been slacking off ! For a little time now, I've been working on some excellent and very original models, something of a niche inside a niche if you want.
With the genestealer hybrids becoming mainstream again thanks to the release of the amazing new stuff lately, my contradictory self had to play a bit...
Luckily enough for me, Uscarl Miniatures, private commissioners and no other than Citadel helped me get Orctober right.

Pantheon of Chaos - It's SO ON !

Every now and then comes a project that leaves my panties wet, today's in one of those : PANTHEON OF CHAOS.

Go check the champions, warriors, demons and monsters available !

I've managed to grab an early bird pledge that should give me a lot of opportunities since chaos has always been my favorite faction of the GW lore.

Go check the link above and support this project developed by true enthusiasts and very talented people.

Rogue trader fishman - Zhar d'uin, piscean prince

After painting a brutal demon of violence and malevolence for last post, I decided to go with something a little more elegant and refined. I've had this piscean warrior model for quite sometime, (actually got it with my Space minotaur) and had yet to make something of him. The model is a fishman based on the original piscean warrior from the first Rogue trader release and sculpted by Diego Superstar Serrate.

Now, Diego's version, though inspired by the original, is a lot different in the details. The sculpt is taller, thinner and it has a very noble pose with his hand on the hilt of the sword (instead of holding a boltgun) and its elongated limbs. I'd even go as far as to say I prefer this one to the original (good thing for me since getting my hands on one of the originals would make my wallet bleed).

Khorne Bloodthirster...the Rogue Trader way

Blood thirsters get a lot of attention these days and though the release of mine coincides with those of the latest edition by GW, there is absolutely no link between the 2...

Some time ago, I was having a friendly chat with Diego Serrate on the Oldhammer facebook page and he proposed me to trade some Bloodthister body from the realm of chaos era. The body was missing a left arm and right hand...

Kiss my shiny reddish ass...

After discussing with Diego the potential donors for new arms and hands, Diego kindly proposed me to sculpt a new arm to my liking !
You read that right, a professional sculptor, (and talented with that) offering to sculpt me a custom arm for a model of mine !

Rad mutants - Iron Claw pirates

At last I finished some models !

These have somehow jumped to the top of the paintqueue (well, greatly thanks to The one for sending me Captain Dunbar as a gesture of kindness) and as always with Bob Olley's sculpts, I just let the models paint themself without worrying too much.
I've already told you how I strongly believe you only truly know a model once you've painted it, well that is even more true with Bob Olley's sculpt. I called it the "Bob Olley effect" earlier, you may not like what the sculpt look like (I've been like that a lot in my earlier days), but the minute I painted one (I was kinda forced), I realised it was a tremendous pleasure to work with his models and I have come to be a huge fan of his work. I just love sculptors who work for painters. Just like Jes Goodwin (my own personnal favourite), Bob is a very painter friendly kind of sculptor and that's what makes his work so great and favoured.

But let me tell you about those particular models. They are Iron claw pirates dating from the time when Bob had his own studio producing models for Games Workshop (just like the Morrissons had the Marauder studio).

There's a full range of pirates to pick from, all particularly characterful :

I have most of this range except maybe 3 of 4  and I expect to paint the full set in due time. Looking at the picture above, I just feel frustrated to not have collected Ooglorg the cruel yet as it would have made a set of 5 aliens which would have been pretty cool but anyway... (if any of you feels like trading him, I'm your man)

As you can see, those models all bear the distinctive style of Bob with organic shaped weapons, very detailed faces (you may not be able to spot them but if you've ever handled one of these you surely know every single detail like eye lids and nose hair are sculpted), wrinkles and wrinkles over wrinkles and guns you don't know what to count as.

You may have noticed I didn't place the models in a random way. you can clearly see the one on the left is far more humanoid than his colleague on the far right. This is because I've decided to treat them as mutants. But not the chaotic sort, no, just like my Rad chimera, I want these guys to be the offspring of radiations and fallout of some nuclear holocaust. The further you get to the right, the more the mutant and his ancestors have been exposed to radiations.

That was a way to unite all those models by giving them a similar paintjob to tie them a little. I voluntarily left some remnants of "human" pink skin and coloured red the overgrown or most mutated parts (the heads in most cases).

Space minotaur - Rogue trader

Here he is at last ! I received this wonderful model just before leaving on holidays in August and it has been patiently waiting for my return , half built on my modelling table until I picked him up for some action !
You may remember that model from a post of late. It is a model made by Diego Serrate who is filling blanks in our collections and in what the early 40k universe has to offer.
