NYC Beer Week 2016

Today marks the kickoff for the 8th annual NYC Beer Week!  It's absolutely amazing to think of all that's happened over these last eight years.  When this began there were only a handful of NYC breweries like Kelso, Brooklyn Brewery and Sixpoint.  Now the city is absolutely booming with local beers from the likes of Finback, Other Half, Threes and Third Rail; and the list just keeps getting bigger each day.  There are so many incredible events scheduled. Here's a few of my picks for the week: Saturday February 20th A Taste of Hill Farmstead at  Fool's Gold - S o the very first event I'm really excited about just happens to be with beers from our neighbor to the northeast.  Although these may not be local, the beer community is all about supporting each other so that's okay in my book.  Fools Gold will have 15 taps dedicated to this amazing Vermont brewery including rarities like Madness & Solitude, Ephraim and Shirley Mae. Happy Friday- Welcome NYC Beer Week

It's the opening night of NYC Beer Week and even if you didn't buy tickets to the opening bash at Grand Central Station there are still a TON of fantastic events you should consider checking out this week.  Here's a few I'm excited for: Stone Brewing Cask Ale Fest at The Jeffrey - Smoked Porter with Espresso and American Oak and Ruination with Lemon Peel and Amarillo are just two of the fourteen unique and delicious beers the Stone Brewing team has put together for the event. CASKALOT at 508 Gastrobrewery - Head Brewer Chris Cuzme brings together some of the best in the NYC craft beer scene like Sixpoint, Kelso and Birreria for a celebration of cask conditioned ales. Cigar City at The Blind Tiger - Rum Barrel Aged Marshal Zhukov- BOOM! Maine Beer Co Takes the Taps at The Jeffrey - Lunch, Peeper, Mean Old Tom.  They're all great and they should all be making an appearance. Those are just a few of the fantastic events going on around town so go out and get yo...

New Brew Friday- It's NYC Craft Beer Week!

And Mr. T and I got off to an early start last night with a trip down to One Mile House for a special keg of Hill Farmstead Everett. Hill Farmstead is a small brewery up in Vermont that consistently churns out wonderful, elegant beers that are almost impossible to find here in NYC due to their small production and high demand.  The Everett was a real treat....malty flavors of chocolate, coffee and vanilla dominated this incredibly smooth Porter, just perfect for sipping on a cold blustery day. One Mile House is hosting a special Local Beer event tonight where some great NY breweries will be taking over the taps. You can stop in and try a flight of some great locals like Captain Lawrence, Barrier and Kelso to name a few. But don't stop there...the city is filled with a ton of beer events this week at some of my favorite bar and restaurants in the city like Gramercy Tavern, Mugs Ale House and Birreria.  You can check out all th...

Keg and Eggs at Resto

Sorry my posting has been a little bit sporadic lately. This post is actually about a brunch we went to two weeks ago. Somehow this got lost in the shuffle of things that was the end of summer. The second week in September was the 2nd annual NYC Craft Beer week. This is a great time in NYC with tons of beer events, special cask ales and just a celebration of everything beer. I got an email Friday night from the Belgian restaurant Resto informing me of a Kegs and Eggs brunch they were hosting the next morning I’ve written about Resto a few times in this blog and I find it to be inconsistent. The dinners I’ve had there have run the gamut from being really good to almost inedible. However I have always enjoyed their brunch and this looked like a good deal so we decided to go. Here’s the deal as per their email “Resto will serve a traditional English Breakfast - Eggs, Blood Sausage, Heirloom Tomato, English Cheddar, English Muffin and Home Fries served with two draft beers fro...
