Serious Superbowl Eats at Dizengoff

Image
Hosting a Superbowl Party this Sunday- then head to Dizengoff for a spread of their  incredible hummus and pita sandwiches that are sure to dazzle any football fan. Located in the Chelsea Market, this small counter style spot is owned by Chef Michael Solomonov of Zahav in Philadelphia; a restaurant known for serving the best Israeli food on the East Coast since its inception back in 2008. The hummus here is unlike any other; it's thick and creamy with a good dose of garlic and sesame served alongside pillowy light rounds of pita bread and Israeli Salad. Dizengoff is offering two Game Day Packages which include an entire spread of Tehinas with all the fixings; Beet, Cabbage & Israeli Salad, fluffy balls of falafel and of course their warm puffy pitas.  Since they are Philly based they are obviously rooting for the Eagles on Sunday so Patriot fans stay away!  Fingers crossed for a great game this weekend. More of Los Tacos No 1

I loved the pork taco so much on my last visit I just had to return and try out the rest of the tacos at Los Tacos.  This time I went for flour tortillas and the next two tacos Carne Asada (Steak) and Nopal (Cactus). Once again I was disappointed by the first taco I tasted.  The cactus was mushy and limp with a strange minty after taste.  I only had about two bites before throwing this away. The Carne Asada on the other hand was AMAZING!  It was finely chopped so there was no struggling with large pieces as you get with most steak tacos.  The meat left a nice, slow burn on the tongue that was incredibly satisfying.  A splash of lime juice on top for a little acidity and bam- perfection. A Sweet Treat for Thursday

Image
I always need a little something sweet in the afternoon...not something huge just a little bit of sugar to get me through the workday.  That's why I love Fatwitch.  They offer mini versions of their regular brownies and at $1.75 a piece these are a wallet friendly afternoon treat. Last visit they expanded their mini options to include the Caramel Fatwitch! Thick fudgy brownie with a thin layer of creamy caramel sandwiched in the middle.   It's the perfect little pick me up. Los Tacos No. 1

Tucked away inside Chelsea Market the new Los Tacos No. 1 is creating quite a stir.  Just look for the long line of people at lunch time and you'll find the spot...set up so you pay for your items first then head to the cooks and submit your order.  This two step system works fabulous since you can customize your meal directly with the cook. Choose from either corn or flour tortilla then add guacamole, onion, cilantro and/or salsa.  I ordered the polla asado (chicken) and adobada (marinated pork) on corn tortilla with everything except cilantro. The pollo asado was tasty...chopped up into little cubes and wrapped up snugly inside the warm tortilla.  I loved the sweet, nutty flavor of the tortilla but found the chicken a bit boring.  The pork taco was much better.  The meat marinates on a rotating spit all day then gets tossed on the griddle just before hitting the tortilla resulting in a crisp, smoky char that's incredibl...

Sweet Treat Day III

Today’s sweet treat come all the way to NYC from Maine! Feast your eyes on some REAL Whoopee Pies!!! Okay I’m not a Whoopee Pie expert, but if I’m going to indulge in one, this is the kind I’d like to eat. The Cranberry Island pies are sold in the freezer section of the Lobster Place in Chelsea Market. All natural ingredients and a beachy seashell shaped case make these whoopee pies stand out from the rest. Even though the pies were in the freezer section after only about 15 minutes of rest time the cake was pliable and moist. The cold inner filling was not only refreshing but insanely delicious! I really felt like I was in the Florida Keys enjoying a fresh slice of key lime pie! The entire Whoopee pie was lighter than most and the filling to cake ratio was perfect. They carry Chocolate pies at the market as well but I would be hard pressed to pass up the lemon lime. So there you have it! A little bit of Maine right in our own backyard. You know what I suggest?
